Leicester was the first local BBC radio station and have the best and strongest signal as a result sometimes when driving in the Longford, Beduff, Walsgrave area my radio just switched to Leicester and I don’t realise for a bit, I bet it’s worse Nuneaton way. Still CWR is a bit crappy not been the same since Gaunty got the sack.
I wouldn't be interested to know how they calculate "market share"...by that, do they mean all people living in that area who listen to radio programs? Or all people regardless of whether they listen to the radio or not?
I would imagine so, these studies are based on Ipsos Mori polls of a sample which are then extrapolated. I did one a few years ago and got a fiver for it.
The Lilliputians at the top of the BBC decided relatively recently to make all the BBC local stations into glorified news magazines concentrating on purely local news and events
Danny Baker had a magnificent program on the London station which people listened to all over the UK and even overseas
He was booted out as he wouldn't toe the 'are you local' line and immediately delivered his notorious 2 hour rant against the management live on air in what became his last show
He was applauded out of the building by all the other staff
It's on youtube
BBC London is now like all the other local BBC stations, almost unlistenable most of the time
Of course the numbers tuning in have plummeted
You have to accept local radio for what it is, although that's not an excuse for doing it badly.
It has local news, local traffic reports, local sport etc.
If you just want a music station there's no point in it being local.
Cannot listen to the football comentary on the city games as they drive me to distraction most of the time! its the way the voice get louder and shrill as he describes a pass into the box as if its a killer of a pass or cross and nearly lets in a goal! I sit and listen to it while actually watching the game pissing myself laughing as its nowhere near as dangerous as his voice makes out! Feel sorry for the armchair viewers who get a distorted view of the game because of it!
