Robins also felt there was a foul in the build-up to Shrewsbury’s winner but feels his team should have reacted quicker once the referee had made his decision.

Robins said: “It’s a disappointing result. First half we did okay, but we didn’t get a foothold in the game in the second half.

“We gave the ball away in poor areas and we looked tired and understandably so. There are no excuses, we just didn’t control the game well enough.

“We didn’t look like we were going to throw it away necessarily, I thought we might even score.”

“It was undoubtedly a foul on Callum O’Hare in the corner, but you have to deal with that decision and get back.

“We were committing more bodies forward and ended up getting sucker punched at the end.

“We weren’t good enough today and we haven’t said that except for the game at Rotherham this season.”

Having defeated Ipswich Town in the Emirates FA Cup in mid-week, Robins acknowledged that Shrewsbury looked the fresher of the two sides.

“They were fresh and had time to work on things in the week and that’s fair play. If you’ve got any slight advantage you try and make it count for yourself.

“I’ll look inwardly as well, I could have made changes earlier but ultimately, we needed to get a foothold in the game and that gives you an inkling to make a change for the better.

“We were okay, but we didn’t have that quality on the ball which didn’t give us the chance to get out and the decision-making was poor.”

Robins wants his team to learn from this defeat and hopes to get back to winning ways next Saturday against Lincoln City.

“We have to learn from this and move forward from it as you do with every defeat, I’m not going to be overly critical.

“We don’t want to lose games like that, and it needs to be a one-off and then get back on it, work next week, and try and get a win next Saturday.”

It’s ok him saying all that question is why not change it sooner did they not know how to change the games pattern ?

The infuriating thing about this is he talks about possibly making a change sooner etc, but you just know in the heat of another game he'll fail to make the changes again. Mentions in the press conferences about where it went wrong, then never actually changes the way he goes about game management.

We were poor, less up for it, half a yard slower and fell into their hands. We have Kelly, Allen and Walsh in the middle and still struggled to get a foothold in the game. We were poor BUT Robins should have made a formation change or changes in general after an hour not in 90 + 2 !!

Need a decent striker Grendel can’t score for toffee let’s bring 2 people on in the 93rd min after playing defensive after we scored.
Eakin thinks we are playing Ipswich still, Oggy is still too guarded of his old mukka Robins and every fooker who rings up starts by saying “how are you” Jesus wept talk about football ffs!

I'm quite new to this forum but even I have realised that you need to deploy grendel as the right winger and give nick the freedom to go and break the legs of their best player.

And put orca as wing back, he can make up a lot of space but doesn't really achieve anything by it.

So he recognised he could’ve/should’ve made changes earlier? What is it that’s stopping him then is he just scared or something? I don’t get it.

How many people would be annoyed if, after their equaliser he immediately changed it up and stuck two up front and told us to go for it, and they flukily did a smash and grab and we came away with nothing? I would guess people would be much less annoyed and say you know what, he did the right thing and was positive and shit happens.

This my friends is the difference between the commonly cited “knee jerk reaction”, and reacting to a constant behavior that is costing us points and putting us in relegation form over the last 10 games.

Stinks of the Mowbray season

MR said the midweek game done for us. So why didn’t he use his subs earlier if he knew the players were tired? I suppose we also should all be asking, if he knew tiredness was going to be an issue why did he go with the same starting eleven?

This is the problem with coming out and saying you're going for promotion. When things don't go too well, you look like a fool. Actually, things are going okay. Not great, not badly, just okay. But this is only our second season back at this level. Perhaps we're expecting too much. We've changed our style of football, and both the players and manager are still learning. On a personal note, I've been working on the assumption that this season sets the groundwork for a proper promotion push next season, so I'm not overly worried, but I would expect things to improve as the season goes on and lessons are learnt.

It’s nothing to do with what he’s said he will achieve. This is why people get so pissed of - because we know the squad are capable of promotion because we’ve seen how they can play. It’s the tactical stuff letting the side down

Add a forward we are certainly capable if we don’t make play offs you have to feel we’ve missed a huge opportunity probably the best since being in league 1 my worry is as you say the tactics side, even at 1-1 Shrewsbury made changes to win the game we didn’t a team win apparently chasing promotion

With reference to the Ipswich game that Robins commented on saying we put a lot into that game-it obviously caught up with us yesterday.
Interestingly, Ipswich (not sure if they put a lot into that game) lost yesterday aswell.
