So far my prediction is working out almost exactly as described. Pathetic.

Honestly cannot think of a more unlikeable England cricket team. Full of arrogance and totally lacking in self reflection with a rigid ideology. Many could see this happening, but of course we have to wait for an Ashes drubbing to happen before anybody changes anything.

Heroic effort from Stokes. Can clearly see how much it’s taken out of him.

As for Jofra Archer, turning up and bowling 10mph slower than usual is pathetic. At least he has his pillow

This is shaping up to be the most abject English test team of all time.
Lose this game and we should just bring them home to save further humiliation.

Got up for a piss, considered watching for a bit, checked the score, went back to bed.

You're not winning games relaying on Stokes and Archer to score runs and bail you out of the shit.

Even if they get the lead under 100 does anyone have confidence in us getting them out for a low total and being in with a shout?

I didn’t even switch it on when I got in from work at 4am. They need to try something new they have done the play a lot of golf and act like holiday makers now they should try netting.

I watched the end of Australia's innings last night and Archer & Stokes had a bit of a go at each other when Archer wasn't happy he was hit for 4 when he wasn't bowling to the field that was set. At the other end Carse continued to bowl short & wide giving away 10 an over to Starc & Lyons. The bowling has been really piss poor this test & then we see Australia keeping to their plans & bowling to the fields they set.

The ironic thing is the stats people will tell you the Aussie bowlers who have dominated are simply bowling line and length which is restricting the run rate and that's leading to wickets.

We've retired our ideal bowler for that tactic because 'he won't still be playing when its the Ashes', same player who has been appointed captain of Lancs for next season. Went for all out speed with a group of bowlers everyone could see before a ball was bowled wouldn't make it through the series.

Not saying if Jimmy was out there we'd be romping to victory but some selection decisions look worse and worse the further into the series we get.

We've had years of Bashir being contracted and in the squad for him to never get picked.

We claimed our tour prep was perfect and what we wanted, then complained Cricket Australia hadn't been cooperative in organising thing only for them to reveal we were offered more warm ups and turned them down.

If anyone dares to ask even the most obvious question in interviews they get a shitty answer. It really is very hard to like this team.

One thing to have that level of arrogance if you're winning game after game but they are nowhere close to that.

It is hard to see a way forward with the way the ECB are currently running cricket. Is there a pathway for players to get into the test team? I get that counties have been struggling financially but the current set up seems to be all about the Hundred or 20/20 & sod the test team.

I watched the days play and it's frustrating seeing the same fellas giving their wicket away. Stokes has battled hard so there's a slight hope of something. I've got day 4 tickets so hopefully at least I'll see some play. Cheers Ben.

Bazball can fuck off though.

Problem is there are so many things you can eviscerate this team & its management for.
Likes of McGrath was saying it would be a 5-0 (always does) but the reasons he gave are exactly panning out. You can't bazball bat on Aussie wickets against disciplined bowling, you can't take wickets in Australia without being able to bowl line and length (all out pace isn't going to do it if you can't consistently put the ball in the right place).
There's no plan B. In previous years you'd have an overseas Lions tour happening in case you needed to call up players - this year it was basically an U23 team that got hammered by Aussies B team.
List goes on - Duckett thrives against balls away from the body, struggles when he's cramped up - saw a stat he averages 54 with the first, 25 with the 2nd. Pope's recent record basically padded by 2 beginnings against Ireland and Zimbabwe. You're playing quick bowlers hoping they can find the odd miracle spelll.List just goes on and on. Test batsmen need to adapt - ours have neither the technique or temperament to do so.
For me (woakes injury aside) 5th Test against India was the forewarning for this tour - sloppy cricket with bat & ball. Inability to play against more disciplined cricket
ECB has created a calendar based on money. There's no strong County system producing redball players.

Not fit for purpose. Besides current set-up convinced that unproven potential should be promoted over players actually producing results.

I saw enough during the India series to predict a 5-0 for this tour (and posted as much at the time) for similar reasons to McGrath. Thinking you can just ignore the fundamentals of good Test cricket: knowing when to hold steady and when to put your foot on the accelerator with the bat, take your catches in the field and bowl a consistent line and length.

Sure, McClueless and Key and a few others will get sacked at the end of this, there might be a bounce back for a few years but I bet we're having the same sorts of conversations in 5-10 years.

Genuinely at the point now where I'm thinking of knocking cricket on the head for a bit. I just dont find our current brand and team that likeable or even that good. The irony that Bazball was created to try and inject a bit of enjoyment and life in to test cricket again and its actually had the complete opposite effect for most. Ever since that declaration at Edgebaston in the last Ashes series ive had to force myself to watch cricket and really not enjoyed it. Sad times because im a big fan of test cricket. I can take or leave the ODI's and never been a fan of the T20 stuff. So for this "injection" to rebrand the only format I actually really liked has ruined it.

Watch other countries instead, played well it’s still the most entertaining form of the game for me.

We need proper Cricketers - Barrington , Boycott , Edrich , Higgs , Underwood , Willis , and of course Botham. But we don’t make them like that anymore.

Well done Archer and Stokes, who have at least given an aura of semi-respectability to the total.

We now need to bowl well and then bat out of our skins in the second innings if we are to win this. I can't see it happening but, for the moment at least, we still have a toehold in the game.

Ah, devious game plan.

Now up to 200+ runs behind at Tea on day 3. Plan seems to be to just let Australia bat to their content. Then the unexpected Monsoon tomorrow to wash out the draw?

Imagine the Aussies will probably declare on a 500 run lead midway through Day 4. England will go out and tee off, lose by around 200-250 with Stokes propping up the scorecard.

You can see it coming can’t you.
The last session was the one where they really realised that they have lost the series.

Not a shock that again a part-time spinner can't make the required impact or scoring rate control.don't blame the player - blame the structure and management.
They fast track Bashir because they know they need one but he doesn't get anywhere near enough cricket - county selection, county pitches/conditions and injury. They have to fast track him because there's basically nothing else available in the county game. Actually get to the Ashes and he's not developed enough to actually make the team.

Yeah, but he and Ollie's old public school chum owns a simply marvellous artisan driving range in Surrey, and has given the whole squad a 25% discount, so I think we have to just accept the rough with the smooth.

Can't really argue he's being selected for potential when he's played 100 innings.

Moving forward after another 5-0 Ashes drubbing how many of this team/squad should be in the next England squad? Definitely Stokes, Root & Archer and Atkinson & Brooks if he can bat more responsibly. Maybe Smith but Foakes is a better wicket keeper. I don't know what players can come in but the top 3 can all go & so can bowlers who cannot bowl to the field settings. No idea on a spinner but Bashir who was fast tracked for his height hasn't had a look in & clearly isn't trusted/rated. You watch the whole team start playing properly in 4th & 5th tests to earn retrieves. I thought the words from Stokes would have the desired effect for this test but clearly not
