I can’t stand Smith. He’s such a c**t.

Shouldn’t be allowed to play professional cricket let alone captain Australia in the ashes.

Any other sport would of banned them for life or at least if they were allowed back would ensure they never get picked again.

Still convicts gonna convict.

I never flap too much on a first innings because it can just be a difficult pitch to bat on.

Australia proving that now.

Head critical for any decent Australian score - get him and we have a good chance

Well well well.

You’d be gutted if you’ve got day 5 (and maybe even day 4) tickets!!!

When I woke up to England 172 a/o I thought “here we go again”. When was the last time the 3rd innings started on Day 1 of an Ashes test?

I wondered why Khawaja didn’t open the batting Smith playing fast and loose with the rules again (also and old favourite of ours as well though)

Sounds like England's bowling deserved more than it's got, which given the score is nuts! If Wood and Archer can play at least three tests together you feel like we've got a chance.

It was crazy earlier. The first 8 overs went for about 3 or 4 runs and should have had at least another 1 or 2 wickets by then.

This is a big chance to pepper Lyon I would be all over him now trying to put him out of the rest of the series.

Clearly the strategy to get them through all of the tests is to finish them by day 3.

I set my alarm for 5am and started watching from the beginning of the 2nd session, headphones on, in bed. Just before Stokes lost his wicket.

I never get too carried away after the first team bats...you need to see how both teams bat on the pitch before drawing conclusions.

And it showed why today. Englands total didn't look great but the pitch appears to be less of a batters track than they thought.

Almost a carbon copy of the Aus vs Ind match 12 months ago and India went on to win the 1st test.

Looking good for you boys.

Ben Stokes was the only player from either team with the balls to make a fight of it.
Hes single handedly kept England in this game. (Altjough Archer and Wood were unlucky not to have more wickets tbf)

Bowlers done great - if this is to be a low scorer with not many overs more chance to squeeze an extra Test out of the quicks.

Both parts of his second sentence can't simultaneously be true.

I know, were the bowlers lucky Stokes was there or were they unlucky not to get more wickets themselves?

What's the old saying? Don't judge until both teams have batted. Was more like a T20 than the opening day of the Ashes.

Is anyone going to dig in and bat properly in the 2nd innings?

Everything about it was woeful. Getting players names wrong, not knowing fielding positions, the 'facts' they were dropping in being wrong.

When you look at how good the world feed is I can't understand why they haven't just taken that. They clearly don't give a shit as they have remote comms so if they want to save money just take that feed, which is what both BT and Sky have done in the past.

I get why Sky won't pay big money for tests that are overnight with very low viewing figures but says a lot that they've sent Nas and Athers out to do a podcast and bits for Sky Sports News while TNT have their commentators here in England.
