I can't believe anybody honestly thought he was going to stay. Just to soften the blow now, Keogh will be gone as well.

Not a bad thing, a player that should have been sold last summer along with clingan !! He had no interest in playing for us this season and didn't want to be here so doesn't bother me at all! He is a good player mind but I don't think we will miss him (unless we don't bring in more players). Will have to see how the summer plans out once the budget is released!!!

Was always on the cards and yes, totally believe Keogh will go too.

And if we drastically have to cut wages, Richard Woods will be surely gone as well.

As we almost certainly do not look like bringing any players in, looks like it could well be Cameron and Willis as the starting centre backs.

Of course we will miss him. Player budget? What's one of those then?

I think even if Keogh left with him,
Cameron
Wood
Mcpake
Wills

Are all adequate centre backs for League 1.

Wood's wages are far too high. McPake will be sold.

No suprise that the exodus has started, but we "won't miss Cranie"?

Presumably in the same way we didn't miss Westwood, Turner, Juke or King.......

Cranie has been one of our best players these past few years.

True.

This time last year I was looking forward to a centre back pairing of Turner (left footed, powerful in the air) and Cranie (right footed, reads the game well).

You'd think I would have learned!

"Didn't want to be here", "Didn't want to play for us" - what?! He tell you this personally?

So, the Telegraph's believed on this one? Not saying he wo't go, because he probably will, but I think it's been proven that the CT really isn't that reliable a source of Coventry City information!

Oh well, at least I don't have to see people spell his name wrong any more. At this rate we are going to lose at least 3 centre backs.

So this is likely to be our squad next season

Joe Murphy
Chris Hussey
David Bell
Carl Baker
Gary McSheffrey
Gary Deegan
Chris Dunn
Cody McDonald
Clive Platt
Richard Wood
Jordan Clarke
Shaun Jeffers
Nathan Cameron
Cyrus Christie
Conor Thomas
Gaël Bigirimana

Well at least they've all got a chance of getting a game!

I'll be very suprised if Murphy and Wood are still there (wages too high).

We've just got to hope that nobody makes a bid for Cody or we may have to change our name to Coventry City Nil.

GOOD ffs where are some of our fans heads? Cranie, Keogh, whoever everyone in that team is pure diabolical crap. they took us down ffs. do you not remember the first 3 quarters of the season? when they couldn't be arsed?? most decided after 6 games we wanted them all out, every single one of them, good luck to cranie, hope he finds a nice warm bench to sit on like Westwood

Alternative thought

Perhaps we need to look at things in a different way ......... perhaps accept that the most important thing is the survival of the club rather than retaining certain players. If they have established a player budget to survive in League 1 (nothing more) then perhaps they take that budget, allocate it to positions and fill those positions at those values - ie look for players that will play for that price. In which case we can expect nearly all the higher wage earners to be gone.

just thinking out loud, not saying it is the case

Most decided we wanted the whole squad out?

I must have missed that day.

I'm all for a squad overhaul and bringing players in on a reduced budget, it makes perfect sense to cut our cloth accordingly, however I suspect that it will be another case of one out zero in and that is a formula that only can end in one direction.

Any business needs investment and if they are not prepared to invest, then I think we are doing is delaying the inevitable. When we do finally enter the administration route we will be in a considerably more grave position. We can accept despair its the hope that kills us.

This will proberly be the first of many and maybe we need to realise this is going to be the case.

I don't like it more than anyone else but we all agree that what pompey have been doing is wrong so maybe we should try to run the club within our means and accept that untill we have better owners who will invest in the club, we will have to the run club with the budget we have got.

Is any one really surprised by this news. As others have pointed out Crannie is really good player who reads the game well, far to good for league one. We would have to increase his wages, and make other contractual agreements we cannot afford. As a club we just don't have any money to spend. Expect all the high earner to be gone at the start of the season, with little coming in, I include Keogh in that, he is perhaps the last saleable player we have left. Survival of the club is far more important at this stage, don't expect a promotion push next season, but a relegation battle. But if we still have a club at the end of it I will be happy for now.

On the plus side only 3 more years of David Bell! Who must be on decent money. It's a joke we have to let good footballers go and are forced to carry others with ridiculous contracts

We need a complete clear out. Try and raise as much as possible in wages for building a league one team.

yer, but our youth team arent ready for league one, look at Jeffers spell at Cheltenham

no-one is coming in, so what we have now will be the strongest squad we will have for years to come with SISU here

The youth team will never be ready to step up. How many actually make it to a half decent level?? 5% or less i'd guess. Anyway, that's not the point. We need to raise as much as possible, get everything that's needed to lift the embargo and go from there. This current squad is awful and needs completely changing.
