With mcsheffrey on twitter saying he'd known about joe cole coming for a couple of weeks, I was thinking how would he know that. Then I remembered craig pead used to be joe Coles mate at lilleshall, so I wonder if he still is?!

Sheffers and Cole have been good mates for years and use to room together when playing for England school boys. That's what I was once told anyway.

Assume both would have played against him in the youth cup final team when Cole was on another level. Can't remember the aggregate but pretty sure we got hammered over two legs and he was instrumental.

He wasn't. Carrick was though as was Defoe I think.

ok, i knew they had other quality plyers in those games. I remember being gutted, was hoping the kids could make it FA Cup win 2 and give the first team a boost. Did we get to the final - semi-final a year or two either side of that game and get smashed again?
Feeling old, my memory is packing up.

Teams for the second leg, can't find the teams for the first leg. No Defoe but Bywater was in goal

Yes, Arsenal trounced us on the occasion you are referring to and we signed Jay Bothroyd soon afterwards.

arsenal beat us in 2000 3-1 and 2-0 5-1 on agg
with bothroyd and barrett later joining us
mcsheffrey and davenport being our stars in that team

west ham beat us 6-0 and 3-0 in 99
no lampard but did have Joe Cole and michael Carrick
we had mcsheffrey again and kirkland

Ah!, ok so i was correct then.
I thought we got to the final again but thought my memory was playing tricks on me.
Shame only Kirkland, Davenport and McSheff were the only ones to really do anything.
That young team got to 2 FA Youth Cup Finals so looking at the players that both West Ham and Arsenal had come through from there teams it's a shame we only had those three. Still a great effort from the boys.

Who was in charge of the academy in those days, done a good job. Who else was he responsable for?

Only 2 of real note in cole and Carrick, Bywater and Richard Garcia the only 2 other notables
