Got to be honest the whole of the Town Centre is grim, no decent shops, pubs { accept for the whitefriars and the town wall tavern} or restuarnts. I go shopping in solihull now.
It doesn't matter how much the council changes the look of the city centre, you'll still get the pikey chavs walking around with their tramp uniform on (baseball cap, tracksuit top, tracksuit bottoms tucked into black socks and black trainers) unless its above 15 degrees, then they seem to feel the need to walk around without a top on showing off their ridiculous tattoos. :jerkit:
We also need to put a lot more work in than just pedestrianising broadgate to get this city looking good again. Pretty much all the shops need levelling and putting into a tighter, more logical format. Take a look at the shops on Market Way, Hertford Street, Smithford Way and Broadgate, they're all crap - half of which are pound shops or discount jewellers. Get rid of the crap shops, build a massive shopping centre along the lines of bull ring or arndale centre to try and attract the bigger name shops, and put the smaller, specialist shops dotted around the outskirts of the city centre.
I have heard the AXA building is coming down as it has been sold for re development (shame as it is one of the nicest buildings in town) also the Telegraph are looking to get shut of the building in the same road & John Lewis have been rumoured to be interested in this area. The old post office in bishop street is also coming down for re development along with other buildings in that area. I think the councils much heralded plans for the centre of town (the jerde ones) are by now at best on the back burner worste will not happen & We will be left to make do with this Pikey patio & shed loads of £1 & charity shops. Seems that whoever brings the money will be able to build what they want in this new area that has come along at the top of the town..
This might be one for another thread but does anyone agree with Me that they should spend some money on the area around the Ricoh which is a total disgrace still six years after it opened?
On picture 4 what the FCUK are those people doing standing in a circle? That bloke looks like he's on fire. They should be helping put him out, not watching him burn.
