Coventry are monitoring Martin Cranie. The defender was substituted in the 87th minute of Wednesday's dramatic 2-2 draw at Cardiff nursing a thigh/groin problem and will be given every chance of featuring at the Ricoh Arena.

Midfielder David Bell also continues to be assessed having missed the last four games with a knee problem, but Carl Baker (hamstring), Hermann Hreidarsson (shoulder) and Richard Wood (knee) remain sidelined.

With Coventry just two points and two places better off than bottom club Portsmouth, the importance of the clash is not lost on Sky Bluesskipper Sammy Clingan.

"A win would be absolutely massive for us," he said. "That would make it five games unbeaten and to get a win would give the lads real, real belief that we can still stay in the Championship."

Clingan added: "These are eight cup finals for us now and we've got to take as many points out of each game as possible and hopefully we get enough to stay in this league."

Portsmouth can add Manchester City youngsters Karim Rekik and Luca Scapuzzi to their squad. Dutch defender Rekik, 17, and 20-year-old Italian forward Scapuzzi have arrived at Fratton Park on initial one-month loan deals.

Scapuzzi's arrival is likely to push Dave Kitson further down the pecking order after the out-of-form striker was left out of the squad for Pompey's last two matches.

Defender Aaron Mokoena (ankle) and veteran frontman Kanu (back) are set to miss out again but full-back Tal Ben Haim should shake off a knock.

Winger Kelvin Etuhu and striker Marko Futacs are pushing for starts after both climbed off the bench to score in the 4-1 win over Birmingham on Tuesday night.

TEAM NEWS

Coventry defender Martin Cranie (thigh) will be assessed before their clash against relegation rivals Portsmouth.
Midfielder David Bell (knee) may be recalled, but Carl Baker (hamstring), Hermann Hreidarsson (shoulder) and Richard Wood (knee) remain sidelined.
Portsmouth manager Michael Appleton is likely to include youngsters Karim Rekik and Luca Scapuzzi in his squad.
Winger Kelvin Etuhu is fit but defender Aaron Mokoena (ankle) and striker Nwankwo Kanu (back) will miss out.
MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head
• These clubs face each other in a league game for the 20th time. Coventry have won 10 of the previous 19, Portsmouth seven, with two drawn.
• Portsmouth were odd goal in three victors when they met the Sky Blues at Fratton Park in December, but they have never done the league double over the West Midlands club, and have only won two league games on Coventry turf.
• Coventry have never drawn a home league game against Pompey.
Coventry City
• Third bottom Coventry are three points from safety with eight to play, and on the Championship's joint longest current run of four successive draws, in company with West Ham.
• The Sky Blues have picked up 22 more points at the Ricoh Arena than they have on their travels, the widest disparity in the division.
• Andy Thorn is looking for a first win in six league games, and will be hoping to avoid the club's 500th defeat in second level league football.

Portsmouth
• Tuesday's 4-1 home win over Birmingham, ended Portsmouth's nine-match winless sequence, but still leaves them one point adrift at the foot of the table, and five points from safety.
• Another three points will give the Fratton Park club their second back-to-back victories under Appleton, who has supervised five wins, six draws and 10 defeats in 21 Championship games in charge.
• The midweek game saw Pompey score four goals for the first time this season, but it was only the third time they had found the net in 10 outings.

But not a football team. I think Coventry United could triumph if they stay united.

Early official team news:
Murphy; hussey, craine, clarke, keogh; clingan, norwood, thomas, mcsheffrey; platt, nimely
Not in any particular order, but you can probably get the positions spot on
Should be playing a diamond formation similar to the formation used in the second half of the Cardiff game.
