To be fair Sunderland wouldn't play like that in a final, it was a specific situation to counter Lampard's tactics.

Ballard came in to cope with all the crosses and long throw ins and we played two quick strikers to keep your back line under pressure.

When we played Sheff Utd last time we had twice as many shots on target, and won, so we know we can compete.

In any case it might be Coventry playing them, we were 2-0 up last time and f*cked it up

Just fuck off back to RTG please

We dominated possession, we didn't dominate them. The game went to plan for them.

We dominated possession against Derby, Plymouth and even to a lesser extent Sheff U yet we lost all 4 games.

100% and it was by design. They set up to allow us to have the ball, sit in a mid block and then try to pick us off on the counter. We didn't create much with that possession.

Possession means nothing. As I said earlier our xG was 1.5 compared to Sunderlands 1.4. even if you take off Milan's gift, it was 1.5 Vs 1. That's not dominating.

They had the bulk of the big chances and as many shots on target as us, which says it all. Fannying about in the corners and at the back doesn’t win football matches.

Happens to everyone. I mean under our previous manager we went out and utterly shit the bed in the biggest game in the clubs history. Luton should have had it wrapped up by half time

I came on to offer any info or advice to decent Coventry supporters coming to the SOL, you can just ignore me.

I’m still confident we will have our annual trip to Wembley later this month.
Goal in first twenty and Sunderland will start to panic, and watch their fans turn on them

We've got a lot of players who I would not be confident are going to score if they stepped up to take a pen. Hopefully they're more confident than I am!

Dovin definitely saves the first - that injury really has fucked us

Agree we need to find a way to play through the lines more - do think its a personnel issue though

Injuries always fuck our season up, it's been like it for many years, we just don't have enough quality in the squad.

We’d have been much better off if we’d sacked him and paid him and his backroom staff off after 10 games.

Still can’t get my head round why Assante started, saw the team sheet and thought he’ll try him on the left and wright down the middle ? they couldn’t handle wright down the middle last time, tactically Set up wrong in one of the biggest games of the season, bit worrying

They had to play those tactics because they aren’t as good as us. Fair play, it worked, aided by a shocking individual error.

Only 3 sides in the division have been good enough to come to the CBS and take us on, and they finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Us, Sunderland and the other 5 clubs in the top 10, just aren’t very good. We need 4/5 starting players if we want to deserve promotion rather than fluke it

I feared Sunderland would turn up and just defend and they did. And once again we did the thing that has failed all season even against the poorest teams in the division - AAATB, take ages to make any attempt to break them down and when a shooting/crossing chance comes in more often than not don't take it and knock the ball back to the full back. The we fuck up at the back or have a GK error and they win. Depressingly familiar and predictable.

Grimes is very good in tight situations but he was playing way too deep against a team that was sitting in - he needed to be another 10 yards up the pitch so he could have more of an impact. Once of those games where they look impressive but only because they're taking easy options.

Crowd was a bit quieter than normal, so I guess nerves played a part.

Also, many I saw it wrong but I expected to come on here and see people livid about Sakamoto being hauled/hacked down twice in the first half and their player only getting booked for one of them. I was sure the player that pulled him back after about 10 mins (which should have been a yellow) was the same one that went through him about 10 mins later. Did I see it wrong?

We set up completely wrong for the tactics Sunderland employed and the bench did nothing to try and rectify that.

While we’ve got this Rob Roy spouting stuff on here, who’s that fucking wetwipe on theirs, LDNCCFC, waving the white flag?
I thought Astute was the only surrender monkey from this board over there, but this bloke is vomit inducing.

Didn’t get a chance to post* directly after the game Friday and yesterday was mental, but on reflection of the game, I thought we played okay, but lacked any real quality in the final third - Sunderland defended brilliantly it has to be said and were clinical when they had their chances.

We are still in the tie overall and I think a few changes are needed to get us over the line Tuesday night.

On replay have the say think MVE was way too far out to attempt the back pass to the keeper so was a poor decision to attempt in the fist place, he's nearly at the half way line when he plays it.

Yeah, when I watched it back and didn’t realise how far out he was. He should have turned and pumped it down the line but that’s obviously in hindsight.

Heard a lot of people say the mistake was the poor execution of the back pass, think the decision to attempt the pass was the bigger mistake
