Disturbing looking wine bar now. Don't think the Friday night rock night would pass health and safety now.

The Campbell? It's had a lick of paint but I'd hardly describe it as nice still. There's still the lingering air of sweat and angst.

Blast from the past! Forgot all about that, can't even remember where it was now, the 80's all a bit of a blur to be honest.

As were the 90's and 00's, the 10's heading that way too.

Greyfriars Lane. Typical Cov City Centre location, stuck down a side street (I think it might be Greyfriars Lane, it's down the end of the entry off Hertford St). It closed in 2001 iirc.

I think you've got it right about the Ricoh, it isn't seamlessly weaved into a day out at the football. It feels like a lot more effort to me. No chance of buying a pint at 2.45 and necking it to then try to make kick off.

Hard for me to remember them all, used to only go out in Coventry on match-days really in those days.

Tend to only do Earlsdon if out in Coventry nowadays, much prefer Warwick or Leamington for drinking, Coventry always seems to be a bit too spread out with it's pubs, not great for a crawl unless doing the Craven Street run, and they're not the best pubs there in all honesty!

Here are a couple more names to throw at you ...... was too young at the time to be discerning about the beer for the first few but had some great nights out (well thats my excuse and sticking to it)

the Bear - Corporation St
the Climax
Hand & Heart - far gosford st
Dog & Trumpet

late 70's early 80's the 3 tuns was very popular

Used to like the Rising Sun when Jim Holton ran it ..... had put Shakespear but had some good times & beer there too

Got very happy memories of the Rocket too

Dog and Trumpet just up the precinct from the Black Eagle? Down some dodgy stairs?

Is it still going?

I don't bet a lot, just a tenner in a roulette machine, pint on the side. I had a run of about 6 home games last year where I came out with £30-£50 profit, that's another good reason to not go to Sixfields !!

I

Used to do the same with Blackjack, always coming out 50-100 quid up.

Decided this is easy, what if i went more often and gambled larger amounts? Make loads of money!

Didn't work out that way! Sometimes could go in with £40 quid, and walk out with £800 an hour later, others, not quite so good, but it's the memory of the big wins that keeps you going through the losing unfortunately.

My Dad always used to take me into two pubs when I was young to meet his mates before we went on to Highfield Road;

The Newlands - Used to be a fantastic pub 10-15 years ago, but since its refurbishment and such its not got the feel it used to be. 15 years ago it would of been 9/10, now it probably would be 5/10

Peeping Tom - Another good pub back in the day, walk in there now and it's like the place hasn't changed in ten years, still the same old folk who I recognise, not a bad drink and not that expensive. 8/10

The first pub I ever got pissed in, in town. Used to be cheap beer on a Monday (before this new fangled Monday club shite) and used to go there after I picked up my giro thing that you could get at 16 if you could blag that you had been kicked out of your parental home and had no discernible income. Allegedly.

They certainly weren't fussy of who they let in because at 16 I looked about 12!!!!

Just to make clear this is all well before my time  ....... but came across this

http://www.historiccoventry.co.uk/history/pubs1912.php

Interesting to pick out some of the pubs still going that are over 100 years old. Also just how many pubs there used to be.

I used to work the bar there! Was working there on the Sunday lunchtime they brought the FA Cup back to parade - it was mental - typical round of drink on the day was a whole case of diamond white (24 bottles!!)

Hand and Heart was the one directly next to the army place if that helps any.

The Cottage - Earlsdon

Used to be a Sunday afternoon family boozer. Bit of dinner, kids on the bouncy castle etc. Now it's Oi Oi geezer and birds with their tits hanging out and tiny dresses. I love it.

£3.50 a pint (taste like abattoir drainage) and touching £5 for a spirit and mixer.

2/10 week days
8/10 weekend.

I remember when Wally Hayden was the landlord. Proper boozers pub with jazz sessions, with Wally singing, at weekends. Banger racing crowd used to use it and were great guys. Quality ale from a landlord who would drink his own draught beer, always a good sign. Happy days

My old route into cov town was
Rocket
Three Tuns
Bug and Black Bat now Heat apparently!
Penny Black
Cov Cross
The Jag
Ending in Mr G's normally involving being legged round town for half an hour by a group of bell green boys for going with their girl friends / sisters / cousins or a mixture of both.

Happy days makes me realise how much I miss cov before the sky dome was built. Live in bedworth now and have to say the pubs there hark back to the glory days of early 90s cov.

Who remembers the nightclub in the bridge above Shelton square - bedrock?

I used to use the Live & Let Live until it closed down, then I used the White Horse in Broad Park Road. Great pubs! As for recent pubs, I rather like the Rainbows. I stumbled in there one day when I was pissed. Really friendly bunch of lads! (Not much in the way of women though! Strange... :thinking about

Don't drink the Bacardi in there - it gives you a sore arse if you drink too much

Used to drink in the Bull & Anchor. The Legion at Ash Green. The Royal Oak. Then off to the Railway & Market Tavern in Bedrock, or off to Nuneaton. Followed by working the closing shift in Madisons. Great days

I worked at the Tollgate on Holyhead Road, in the kitchens washing up at 16 and then behind the bar for a couple of years from 18. am amazed that it's still going, just looked on street view and it doesn't look like it's been done up since I stopped working there 15 years ago!

Had my first wedding reception there in 1975. When I was last in Cov about 6 months ago it hadn't seemed to change that much.

Surprised no one has mentioned the Grange. I remember when Pete and Cynth had it - great landlords and proper ale. Also remember a pub in North Street (can't remember the name) that sold Watneys Red Barrel on draught - put your pint down on a table and it took the polish off leaving a white ring; scary stuff.
