Don't be fooled. All bluster with no substance. 60,000 have taken part in or watched? Bit wish you washy figures. Does that include the attendances quoted at the rugby league double header or singa 7s? 9,000 to watch that isn't great considering Coventry & Warwickshire is a catchment of around 1m people.
Article says 1,600 people trying it during Coventry sports week. That's an annual event in the city centre. Other activities include tennis, football, climbing to name a few - bet those 1600 tried all of those sports as well. doesn't say how many people have carried on playing rugby or paid to watch a game as a result of this initiative.
Sky blues in the community have been delivering to 10k+ school kids for 20 years.
World leader? According to who...? Just a press release written by someone to make themselves sound good and sent out to the local papers... don't be fooled people, this is no better than any of the projects that our own SBitC run

Spot on, bluster indeed. The project manager of the make rugby more popular project says he's doing a good job. End of year appraisal time.

Why? Most football fans set themselves apart from rugby. So why should it bother them if football is the hands down elite?

Let's set the nonsense aside and accept we want to see all sports flourish.

Now Mr Fisher engage first gear and follow the road ahead.........

Clicked on link expected it to take me to the CET site, a little surprised to find the Observer spouting this.

I see it as a good thing. I don't really care what sport we're seen as a "world leader" in. It'll enhance the profile of our city and help get kids to play sport. The second of those things is the most important thing isn't it? If it helps that great.
