COVENTRY CITY are in the race to sign Liverpool FC starlet Jonjo Shelvey on loan, according to reports.
Sky Blues boss Andy Thorn is eager to bolster his small squad with loan signings - although at the weekend, he said there were no deals in the pipeline at the moment.
The Daily Mail claims, however, that City are one of four clubs looking to sign the cultured midfielder on a short-term deal as he bids to kick start his career at Anfield.
The 19-year-old former Charlton Athletic star has started only four games in his 22 appearances for the Reds to date.

City will face tough competition for Shelvey's signature though.
Birmingham City, Cardiff City, Hull City and Middlesbrough are all also believed to be interested.

Doubt we have any chance with the teams that are interested in him though.

Remember him against us during their relegation season, he was their best player yet substituted-he was just a kid and carrying the team then. Serious prospect who isn't getting a look-in, would be very much suited to the "hole" role. No-one else we have bar McSheffrey is, so would be a cracking signing. Don't fancy our chances against other clubs, but I can hope!

Oh yeah my mate had him in FM at Charlton the other year. Carried his side to promotion last year, then cashed in for big bucks like IRL. I'm going to see him in a minute, I'll pump him for more info (ppm's, etc)

I think this has a real chance to happen. We're on good terms with Liverpool and they like what we are doing to the kids.

I have rated young Shelby really highly since he came onto the scene! I am also a big Liverpool fan, so I have watched his progress carefully. What a loan signing if we could get him!! Remember that Liverpool loaned us Stephen Warnock before! (They like us!)

They loaned us warnock 9 years ago - they have a different owner and manager now, and if I remember right mccallister was manager having just retired after having that brilliant season at Liverpool....

The only thing we have in our favour is that he is almost certain to play every game, whereas I think he might be a bit-part player with Cardiff and Birmingham. And who the fu*k would want to go to Hull?

Thorn also said he would only get a loan if it would improve the side. I'm pretty sure this lad would IMHO.

A workmate of mine is a Liverppol fan, and reckons that he would be a great signing for us as a midfield playmaker; he also says that he would quickly establish himself as our free kick taker - has a great right footed delivery.

We're in desperate need of someone with a decent delivery. We must be one of the worst in the league at set peices - defending them too.

Didn't we miss out on Pacheco because allegedly Liverpool wanted to keep him nearer Merseyside? This is the Pacheco who was then loaned out to Athletico Madrid and then loaned to Rayo Vallecano? No great scholar of geography but even I am sure that Cov is nearer to Merseyside than Spain - maybe Ken meant he wanted him nearer to him in Portugal?

Yes, but this lad is an outstanding prospect two years ahead of Gael and Christie
