Fuck me they are the same thing.

Frank is saying he will be back training on Monday and Rudi is saying he’s not injured.

Almost certainly the medical team have advised Frank to rest him as a precaution. Had it been an important fixture I’m sure he would have played.

I think its timing. He's either on the way up when he should be on the way down or on the way down when he should be on the way up

Me and my brother joked to each other after their second that the "f*cking Simms!" meme would pop-up. How in the hell that goal gets pinned on him when the pass to him was half baked to begin with, f*ck knows. Knives are out for him good and proper amongst us lot. It's a bit grim.

Maybe it says more about me becoming a bit of a bore, but Grimes has fast become my one of my favourite players, completely dictates the game, and doesn't make me nervous like a lot of the rest of the team do in possession. Da Silva has been the suprise for me this pre season, all of a sudden I'm not worried about the left back decision as both left full backs (excluding Bidwell) are solid options.

I think we play better with one up top, BTA on his own up top seemed alright, if you give those chances to a clinical striker that game is a comfortable win for us today. BTAs best quality is his tireless chasing of the ball, it actually worked a lot today, if Haji just added that a bit more to his game, I'd be more than comfortable having Haji play up top alone as he's a much better finisher. Final note... Simms' goal papered over the cracks, his awkward attempt at trying to hold the ball up put us under pressure and immediately a goal, I actually feel sorry for him, just as he gets some confidence, he immediately finds a way to undo it

All in all, I feel similar to how I did against Betis, I'm happy with the patterns in play, the midfield looks strong, wingers and fullbacks cause problems but our defending and uncertainty on our strikers is why I think well struggle to push on from last season..as always, hope I'm wrong.

With Grimes it's that he sits far too deep and half the time may as well be classed as a CB. He needs to be 10-15 yards up the pitch and playing the ball forward more to really be dictating play. Not saying it's stats padding as he clearly has the ability to play passes and work in tight areas but he needs to be braver.

I disagree we play better with one up top. Certainly with the tactics we're using of getting the ball wide. None of the current strikers seems to be flourishing using it.

I'm not unhappy with pre-season, I just think we're capable of more.

Think that game is the best representation so far of what we will look like this season:

- We look to dominate the ball against a team who is happy to counter attack
- Get the ball wide and swing crosses in
- Press well in patches but not for the full 90
- Get punished for stupid mistakes at the back

I agree.

he forward play is so one dimensional. teams will quickly work out we only want to play down the wings and will set up to prevent that. We need to show a willingness for the wingers to come inside and shoot and the midfield to try and play a striker in through the middle. Otherwise we're just going to be predictable.

Have to give credit to Raphael and simms That was a great goal, always said Raphael would get a chance, theres a decent player there, more right sided but he could cover on the left, we’re still short at the back, be worried if we don’t add at least one centre half

I kinda thought that our one dimensional forward play last season was down to Lampard not having enough time to fully implement his methods

I’ll be disappointed in the coaching team if this is the only way we continue to attack all season

4 headed goals in a season is quite a lot… The average headed goals scored for a team throughout the season was 8.7 goals.

I’m reasonably certain that Simms 4 headed goals would be up there as one of the top headed goal scorers in the league. Personally I’ve found it difficult to find a neat list of this for individuals.

The idea it takes months for a coach to have an impact is bollocks. Were not going to get anything different from what we had last season.

Yeah, exactly this. Betis and yesterday show players that don't play what's in front of them enough. Fine having a plan, but I expect coaches at this level to give players license to ditch the plan if it's not on and to try something else they've spotted, not always just recycling possession deep and trying again.

We scored two, should have had 5. There’s nothing wrong with the tactics. Come on then geniuses, what would you do differently?

That's your opinion.
But we'd have a bigger problem if a midfielder was playing 15 yards deeper week in and week out than the manager wanted and he allowed him to carry on doing it.
But that's not the case.

We definitely look too negative in midfield at times, especially when Grimes and Sheaf play together, they both want to do the same thing, sit deep and take the ball off the defence, and look for the pass into the striker/winger.
Unfortunately with only one striker, there's very little movement ahead of them, and taking the ball off the defence stops kitching from bringing the ball forward, so the defence stay too deep, the midfield 2 sit too deep, and there isnt enough movement up top.
So we end up seeing too much sideways and backward passing.
What we need is a midfielder to carry the ball forward and commit the opposition to come out which creates a space between the lines.
(A bit like O'hare used to do)

Yeah, which makes it a sensible choice of opponent as during the regular season they'd be one or two steps up from us.

Don't think anyone is reading too much into it to be fair. All these friendlies have confirmed to me is that we're a good Championship side with a few positions that need some strengthening and the same tactical strengths and weaknesses as last season.

I expect we'll again be struggling against the garbage hoofball merchants of the league, we'll again have issues with the high line, but we'll also rack up quite a few goals in the process.

It’s ridiculous.
We looked good in both games.
Without Rudoni for Saturday, and Haji getting his first minutes of pre season.
Encouraging displays by 2 youth players (Andrews & Perry)
Simms getting a goal.
Raphael looking lively
Brau and KKH looking comfortable already
Grimes & Sheaf look to have a good understanding.
Dasilva continuing his form the end of last season.
With at least 1-2 players to come in before month end.
