This will all be about whether Lampard has learnt from the last two matches. If he persists with playing a high line with defenders who look like they are running through treacle compared to their opponents then we will be done over again.
Over to you Frank

QPR will come into this with confidence thinking we will crumble if they press and attack us. That's a worry because they might well be right.
We have to have tempo from the off and go at them. Not something we often do.
And please someone stay close to Chair.

Hope Grimes really shines and makes a difference. Will be interesting to watch.

Can see a draw here. Would both sides be happy with that?

Bit baffled with this high line. Especially with a ponderous defence that we find ourselves with. Almost it would seem, we're hopeful of Dovin to keep us in games. Dangerous tactic but I'm sure Frank knows best.

We haven't played with it as aggressively in the 4 league games we won.

My thinking is he went really hard with it to try and close game up and make us really compact, thus making it hard for Leeds/ipswich to play through, forcing them wide, then trust us to deal with it. Clearly didn't work, especially after you conceede in 40 seconds and gift to goals in 25 minutes against Leeds.

Anyway lets remain positive, win tomorrow gets us going again, really think Grimes will help centre half and team, excited to see his impact.

Then onto sheff wednesday, who have lost Bannan and Bernard by looks of it.......

The high line may well work against a team where we expect to have more of the ball and who will have a less potent attack

Just thinking on the four games before Leeds, didn’t we play with the same high line to good effect? Remember a few Swansea attacks being cancelled by the offside trap.

My main concern is that Bidwell is injured - Da Silva is a liability for this one - is there anyone else

I mean in a back five I think Jay is fine but we’ve got a couple who have played wingback before (not wingbacks at all though):

Kitching, Rudoni, Burroughs.

Would rather play Jay in a back five then any of the options above mind

Dovin
MVE Lati Thomas Kitching Dasilva
Torp Grimes Rudoni
BTA Simms

massive game

Win and 4 wins out of 5 in the league with some ‘easier’ fixtures coming up. Lose and it’s 3 losses in a row and out the race for play offs again.

Any chance any of an EMC or Haji cameo?

EMC probably will be on the bench. Wright no chance

In matches where we are expected to be on top and the opposition don't have as much quality the high line isn't an issue and should be a benefit to our game.

The issue was not adapting the line/approach for matches against Leeds and Ipswich

Very interested in that midfield three. Should start to be able to control possession more.

We hopefully be able to get our wingbacks further up the field with Grimes' ability on the ball. Shouldn't be as much of a risk as when Thomas or Kitching are trying to find them.

Looking forward to seeing what difference Grimes can make.
Hopefully he will have plenty of time on the ball rather than just dealing with QPR forwards running through to him.
Is Grimes a good tackler btw?

Interested to see if we’ll move towards more of the possession style, we saw in the early Lampard days with Grimes being able to be a focus point for us in the middle

Not so sure myself. I'd personally want Grimes to be getting the ball off the defenders and pinging diagonals to the wingers quickly (when EMC, and Wright are back). We already had players who could pass sideways and backwards before he arrived. I'd hope he pushes us to be more direct with greater accuracy to be honest.

I hope people don’t think QPR will be a pushover. I saw them beat Blackburn in their last game a week ago, so they’ve had lots of rest. They played 3 very agile, fast players (Chair, Saito and Smyth) behind a big centre forward, Frey. Quick to break which always seems to be a big weakness of ours. Solid defence with a good goalkeeper. Also Dunne and Cook dangerous at set pieces. If we’re not on it we’ll lose this match.

Not particularly but I wouldn’t say he’s bad. A midfield trio of Rudoni, Grimes and Torp is severely lacking defensively in my opinion

Vales interesting since he joined them injured in January. Has anyone else signed a player in January who is injured till the summer? Considering he was on high wages at Chelsea, might be a waste of money but assume they wanted to make sure they got him instead of the trying when he’s a free agent

Da Silva should go at the end of the season, not good enough, but I have to confess that he did keep Philogene quiet on Saturday. The goal was not his fault. Hope he can do that until Bidders returns

Bidders's abducta injury will take longer than Frank thinks to recover I feel as they usually they take 3 to 4 weeks to recover from. Being optimistic for next weekend seems unrealistic

watched them against blackburn, and their corners are excellent - pressure on the keeper with every one - worried they will score from at least 1

If they've still got that lump up front someone's in for a torrid time.
