has he still got an injury?

we have to stop playing wright up front. great player, one of our best if not the best, but not a target man.
he's better with the ball at his feet running at players, and you only get that space out on the wing.
emc has been off the game recently, so loses his place imo.

simms isn't exactly match fit, surviving on a few mins recently, but it is what it is. and there is only one solution to that.

Simms has to be moved on in the summer - not good enough

we'd need to buy a striker then, because that would leave us with bassette, who's nowhere near ready, and bta, who's nowhere near good enough.
i think simms is good enough at this level, but he needs to start.

I can see Boro beating Leeds and Bristol City beating Albion, so this is a game we need to take maximum points from. We should have enough about us to beat them, I will be disappointed if Wilson isn’t in goal.

If that does happen we’re almost in 2 from 3 territory as West Brom will be 5 behind us. Admittedly the Good Friday game is massive regardless.

Not confident if I'm honest. Goalkeeper situation worries me. Pressure will be on and the crowd will be nervy.

Players have to step up. Plenty of them are very capable but have gone into hiding the past two games.

Wow so much doom and gloom on here.
I don't think it matters who is in goal, we should be much better than Pompey.
Allen was terrible so he moves to the bench for me with Torp coming in. Sheaf could come in to help lock down the midfield but he tends to be too defensive minded, whereas Torp has brilliant dead balls and a shot on him.
Simms down the middle, Wright out wide may be an option.
Whoever plays we surely should win this, and particularly knowing what results have gone Tuesday and earlier than us on Wednesday.

We SHOULD be better than Portsmouth, for sure.

This is exactly the type of game where we have slipped up in the past though.

Dovin is such a big loss to us, because I don't believe our defence have anything like enough faith in Collins. It definitely DOES matter who is in goal, because if you have a keeper who is giving ridiculously soft goals away, you have a big problem.

Hope I'm wrong, but I can see this being a draw, tops.

If the results don't go our way on Tuesday, that's then added pressure on us and if they do, we'll, like I say, how many times have we been here before?

Where there's an opportunity, that if we win, we will be in the top 6 etc.

No easy games from here on in.

Portsmouth are still not out of the woods yet, re relegation either, so they will be well up for this

If we play to anything like our best, we should win the game. There were far too many sub par performances on Saturday though.

Saka offered little, EMC offered less and Allen had an off day, as did Grimes.

We come off the back of back to back defeats, so getting the first goal, could prove crucial.

I am certainly not expecting an easy ride at all. Too old in the tooth for that sort of thing and been here before and got the t-shirt.

Portsmouth have lost 11 of their last 12 away games, but apparently the last 3 games, they didn't deserve to lose.

We have been here before. That's all I'm saying and It's got slip up written all over it.

Can’t see much beyond a point here via a goalless draw.
We don’t really do midweek games, do we?

Perfect time for this game with only 6 games to go. Only 1 side can get 3 points. If WBA win both of them are on 60 points. If Bristol City win it becomes a 3 horse race for 2 places. If it's a draw WBA are still out of it barring a minor miracle and a win for us puts us back in the top 6.

At the same time Middlesbrough are at home to Leeds. If Middlesbrough don't beat Leeds and Bristol City don't beat WBA a home win against Portsmouth would put us back in 5th.

We could do with a convincing win really, because our GD is so poor. That could be pivotal.

They didn't go hiding on Saturday at all. We were up against a horrible team that rarely concede and we gifted them two goals. I thought the fight from the side was good. You could sense the players felt the same anger as we did towards the referee. Need to use that as fuel for Weds. If we approach the game with that same desire Portsmouth won't get near us.*

* if no U11 goalkeeping errors.

Yeah ok, 1-1.

We start well and score early and we win this comfortably, they are statistically one of the worst teams aways from home ever in this division. They are going to put 10 behind the ball and limit the space so crosses will be important. With that in mind like to see Haji on the left and Simms back up top to give us 2 big men to aim for - maybe try EMC right ?

I'd possibly consider Wilson over Oggy. Better goal scoring record, 1 in 117 v 1 in 601. I'm not convinced Sheaf is fit enough so would start Torp. Horrible cameo on Saturday aside he's been excellent in home matches recently.

We will win Wednesday and will still make play offs.

Would look at bringing Sheaf in for Allen. Maybe EMC from simms and HW to left.

Gk has to wilson. @Saddlebrains any noise on this situation?

I’d agree, I think they are good at this level but not at the level to start in a promotion winning team, thats ultimately what we want to be, they would be bloody good squad players though, mind they do have a good output so far this season with 10 (EMC) and 9 (Sak) goal involvements Torp with 10 too, I think the midfield next season has to be Sheaf and Grimes behind Rudoni and that is good enough to probably play premier league if Sheaf returns to form.
Torp being a backup for Rudoni is a very good option off the bench, and I think we’ll need more depth behind Sheaf and Grimes as I think Eccles and Allen might not reach the level of the PL, however for now are very much good enough to be backup for a playoff chasing team.
Major improvements are needed at the back though, backup RB, a RCB, a LCB, maybe 2 LBs

Sheaf wont be here next season I dont think.

x1 GK - loan most probably for season
x2 RB needed (MVE will sadly go)
x1 First choice LB
x1 dominating CB at least
x1 Sheaf replacement - still need something dynamic
x1 RW

Then you look at other areas to flip

I reckon you could add a LW and another CB to that potentially and remove the CDM and 1 RB, because we can get 1 more year out of both Sheaf and MvE, of which could be the difference between promotion and not, I think you have to Value the money you’d get from going up over losing say 3/4m on each of them, as the money you’d get from going up would make it look like pocket change

Important to win this one.

Essential we are not complacent, these have beaten Leeds and Blackburn in the last 5 games. Their losses have been only by one goal so they are no walkovers.

Collins is a worry but hopefully if he does play he can regain his previous good form. A glimmer of hope in that he did pull off some good saves after the booboo for their second goal.

Honestly, if we can’t beat these, they’re injury list just got even worse after the weekend the lad who got 4 against us is out, plus another, we’ll win this comfortably
