I bet David Conn loved writing this after the threats from his last article.

Edit: Looks like I was right

However Sisu’s lawyers, Speechly Bircham, complained about the article, and even complained to the Press Complaints Commission, although they did not pursue that complain after the Guardian showed the high court judgement and administrators’ report to the PCC. In their letter they said it was “inaccurate” and “misleading” to say Sisu had simply stopped paying the rent. The lawyers claimed that ACL and Sisu had “accepted ... that there should be a rental holiday”.The lawyers also wrote to the Sky Blue Trust, run by volunteer fans committed to a better future for their historic club, threatening them with potential legal action if they did not take down a link to the Guardian article.

Speechly Bircham wrote in their letter to us that “given its natural meaning”, to say Sisu stopped paying the rent “suggests that Sisu was acting in a commercially immoral way”.

Now, a judgment has found categorically they did stop paying the rent. Yet Sisu have not acknowledged that: they have said the judge got it wrong and that they may appeal.

ACL sued in the high court and won the judgment. When the club went into administration, the administrator wrote: “The [club] did not honour its obligations under the terms of the lease and licence.”

I am shocked at this revelation!
But well done David Conn. Perhaps my letters, along with other protesting fans who wrote letters, urging the national press to investigate our plight over twelve months ago, has paid a small return.

Keep fighting for the Sky Blue Army and the team that is Coventry City.

IIRC it went something like this:

Sisu: Whoops! Got Cov relegated LOL!
ACL: Damn son, how you gonna survive, we might need to look at the deal for the Ricoh.
Sisu: LOL! You said rent holiday! No backsies!

Great article David Conn.

It's completely clear what SISU have tried and still trying.

SISU will NEVER win.

"Play up sky blues, while we sing together , we will NEVER lose"

Our song has never had more relevance.

Bugger me the Guardian isn't going to exist soon with all these court cases they are going to have on their hands! Could SISU go as far as trying to financially distress a national newspaper?

Great article indeed. Thank you David Conn for a clear and succinct explanation of why we are where we are.

I think we can expect a follow up from Oliver Kay of the Times when World Cup duties allow.

Yes good article, which again points towards the unsustainability and continual losses of the club which is paying more than is can afford in all areas of its budget.....

Think David Conn should be given the freedom of Coventry. Sir David Conn.
He has spelt it out. Hopefully this will be on the desk at the Football League right now.
I know I'll be sending them a copy.

When we get back to the Ricoh with Sisu gone, we should have a 'David Conn' stand

I did say all areas of the budget, it's ok though because they're addressing other areas like wage bill, but somehow fans aren't keen....

I have to say its nice to know that we were not conspiracy theorists, deluded or completely blinded or one sided, when you see it confirmed in high court and printed in a broadsheet.

Wasn't that theory put forward by the conspiracy theorists, deluded or completely blinded or one sided party? ;-)

David Conn is wrong and his article is very unfortunate. I am confident that when the same facts are reviewed by three very senior journalists they will come up with the completely opposite conclusions.

Joe Mercers Aces - your name had me drifting back to the early/mid 1970s - a sunny afternoon at a place they called Highfield Road. A lanky legged winger Hutchy, a brave as heck centre forward Stein, Willie Carr, Brian Alderson, Cattlin, Barry & co. It seems like Heaven now.

More like:
Sisu: Whoops! Got Cov relegated LOL!
ACL: Can I remind you that when you brought the club in 2008, your predecessors had the option of a sliding scale based on which league they were in, or a fixed Rent. As you know, they chose the latter...
Sisu: We batter people in court...

Although..........

They spent three years and huge money on a failed effort to win Premier League promotion before seeking to renegotiate the rent.........

Why? Are you suggesting that the article does not say any of that?

Club has lost £40m since Sisu took over in 2008

have suffered total defeat in a high court judgment damning their “mismanagement”

Sisu had by then “seriously mismanaged” the club, the judge found, having lost around £40m since 2008 – when the hedge fund bought City, then in the Championship and playing at the Ricoh, as a “commercial investment”.

They spent three years and huge money on a failed effort to win Premier League promotion

By 2012, the judge found: “Sisu had no strategy for maintaining a sustainable football club,

Pity this isn't in the Financial Times.

The words "SISU" and "seriously mismanaged" would probably have reached an invester...a non-fan who gives a fuck.
