This can only be good for Cov ! A lot of creative people are now going to be able to bring to the fore all the great things about the City ! This will bring tourism, dollars galore, infrastructure improvement and benefits to all. Fuck you Adolf, the Phoenix is rising !

As someone stated earlier, this is the biggest thing to happen to the city since we won the cup in 87.

Very proud.

Great news for Coventry. It seems it will be a real boost to the City. Can anyone see any benefits for the football club?

Haven't posted for some time but this is great news and can only do the club good - well done to everyone who worked for this. It might be the trigger or the club to change owners and move on. Went to the Borehamwood match with my son on Sunday and it was great to be back and we will go to the Stoke game and some other games if we can.

Well apparently, the result was announced at half past 7, but Coventry already knew the outcome at 7:15.

Cov City had it’s most exciting times ( arguably;-)) in the sixties when the whole city was doing well. I’ve got to believe that there will be some spin off, even it is the feel good factor of things happening and Coventry being in the limelight. That promotes identity with the city and maybe that spills into identity with the club. Increased crowds. I cannot seeing it being negative for the club.

As a Cov kid brought up in the 60’s, an exciting time of growth in the ‘City of Skills and Opportunity’, I have always been proud of the City of my birth. I know that things took a major turn for the worse after those heady days, and I really hope that this award can galvanise the City, install pride again, and also bring some much needed money into the City. Everyone can benefit, including our football club. What should our target be for 2017? Brilliant news!!!!

Best news for the City of Coventry for a long time.

It is no longer my home but I am very pleased. The city has gone through a lot of knocks , obviously the blitz and hasn't ever recovered from the imposed 80's recession. It is a city of peace and reconciliation, take a look at its twin cities and it has a justifiable proud record in that.

Big chance now to improve the City and its perception.

Congratulations to City of Coventry!!!

Live: UK City of Culture 2021 decision - IT IS COVENTRY!!!!

First time I think I have ever heard chants of 'Coventry, Coventry' apart from at a football match.

Apparently at the train station the announcer came on the tannoy and said 'Coventry have beaten Paisley, Stoke, Sunderland and Swansea,
GET IN THERE!!'

Excellent news. Have to say I thought it was a bit of a joke when it was first announced we were bidding but credit where its due.

I'm sure the council won't want the club buggering off again when the spotlight is on the city. Gives the city more exposure so might attract a new buyer, although its not until 2021 so hopefully we're rid of SISU by then.

Can we merge the two threads, Nick. I notice one is in Off Topic and one is in Coventry City General Chat.

I am posting in two threads and keep flicking between the two.

CT are saying we might get up to £30m from the government and the lottery.

I love the arts. I love music and museums and theatre and film. This is going to be right up my street.

Literally!

Well done Coventry. It may be a bit rough around the edges but what city isn’t. A city full of history, culture and the natural choice in my opinion. Well done all involved with the bid looking forward to visiting some of the shows (whatever they may be) with the family.

Thing is, we all know Coventry has been shit, but it has been trying to pull itself up by the bootstraps and obtain a positive image.

We have the new water park, restaurants popping up everywhere. There are two more hotels being built and another cinema and now we also have a climbing wall and an escape room in the city centre. All going to make the place more appealing for visitors.

We should all thoroughly applaud this.

There is only one entity I do not wish to see benefit from this City of Culture win and that is Wasps, who are in no way, shape or form anything to do with Coventry.

Fantastic news!
We are truly on the path upwards. This club and city has the potential to take off!

The future prosperity of Coventry as a city and as a club are very closely linked, always have been.

2021....let's hope winning this bid is a huge aid to mediation talks.

Thanks for sharing that Otis, I was really made up to see the genuine joy and pleasure on the faces of the people there upon hearing that the bid had been successful.

Well done to all those involved and may it give the City a huge boost, both in positivity and to the economy.

Yeah, but to be fair to Sisu, they are not pretending to care about this city, or that of being a part of this city.

Absolutely. I was over last Friday night for an event at the sports centre and parked in Cox Street and have to say it’s probably the first time I’ve been in that corner of the city centre since HR and walking from the train station and I couldn’t believe how much better it was than I remember. The walk from the train station into the centre as well. Came over on the train earlier in the year with the kids when they were on holiday to go to the motor museum (which is awesome) and the art gallery and again couldn’t believe how improved the walk is. Again was at IKEA the other week and again the area around there is looking good. Been over a couple of times to go to creams and again much improved area although clearly more work to do. It’s a city on the up when you compare it to even five years ago.

Still some polishing to do but I don’t get why some people strive to be down on Coventry all the time.

Personally I think it’s a great city.

This is a bit like somebody slagging of a member of your family, you defend him/her and won't allow anybody to attack them, even if deep down you probably agree with them. Like our football team, yes they do your head in and get on your tits, but if they get slagged off by someone not from Cov, you won't stand for it and stick up for them. Yes our city has it's shitty areas,I live in one, but so has all towns and cities !
