Looking back from after Sillett/Curtis era, here are the managers we have had at the club.

Terry Butcher (1990–1992)
Don Howe (caretaker) (1992)
Bobby Gould (1992–1993)
Phil Neal (1993–1995)
Ron Atkinson (1995–1996)
Gordon Strachan (1996–2001)
Roland Nilsson (2001–2002)
Trevor Peake (caretaker) (2002)
Gary McAllister (2002–2003)
Eric Black (2003–2004)
Steve Ogrizovic (caretaker) (2004)
Peter Reid (2004–2005)
Adrian Heath (caretaker) (2005)
Micky Adams (2005–2007)
Adrian Heath (caretaker) (2007)
Iain Dowie (2007–2008)
Frankie Bunn & John Harbin (caretakers) (2008)
Chris Coleman (2008–2010)
Aidy Boothroyd (2010–2011)

Just wondering what percentage of these have gone on to either bigger or better things and had success elsewhere? Strachan? Adams?

I know we have all said that there is something inherently wrong with our club itself and that pretty much all managers will fail here, but doesn't the fact that the vast majority of these bosses haven't had any success at all elsewhere after leaving us point to the fact that we have employed either pish poor managers or employed them after their star has waned?

Yes indeed.

Point is though the vast majority have failed elsewhere too or disappeared off the face of the earth. The blame has always been labelled on the club, but doesn't it point to both lack of board support AND managers not being good enough.

Looking at the list, you really don't get much time at Cov to build a side do you?

Fair enough if you are Chelsea you can demand instant success, but for a club like City we ought to be affording managers time.

We must have paid out an obcene amount of cash in compensation, no wonder we are donald ducked financially.

Well yes, but I think over the years we have only really focused on the club and not giving managers enough time and not supporting them. Doesn't the cold reality also prove that nearly all these managers weren't good enough? What has happened to Coleman, Dowie, Reid, McAllister, Butcher, Boothroyd? Seems almost universally that the trend after leaving us has been pretty much down or non-existent!

That list is scary.

These days we seem to turn football managers into TV pundits eg) Dowie, Coleman

Its as if managing us is bottom of the pile, so after failing with us their is no one left to take them so they go into punditry instead

Didn't Peter Reid go on to be the manager of Thailand ..

How shall I put this, ..... he looks like the type of gent that would enjoy period in Thailand. Followed by a stay at her majesty's pleasure and registration on a "list"

Ah good old monkey face.

Hasnt he just led Plymouth to the bottom of the football league. Perhaps he is the sort of profile manager we need :laugh::laugh:

Looking at that list we have had, including caretakers, 21 managerial regimes in 20 years, ie one per year !!!

How on earth can any manager dismantle his predecessor's squad, build his own squad, introduce stability and then try and achieve success all in 12 months - it is ludicrous - who can we blame ???

There are some illustrious names on that list (in theory) but all have failed - so do we blame the succession of chairmen and umpteen board members or what - I really don't know.

It really is a perplexing situation.

What is the answer ???

Its even worse when you consider that Gordon Strachan was in the job for 5 of those 20 years...

I'm large positive about Strachans time in charge.

Blacks doin well, albeit as a number 2. Seems he has a friend for life in Steve Bruce! What a shame we had a prat of a chairman at the helm who thought Peter Reid could do a better job!! Ill forever hate Mike McGinnity for that (on par with trying to change our badge to that rediculous shite design he came up with, altho the bbc seem to believe we actually use it).

That's a dramatic list. Only one had any real success didn't he? Wee Gordon for any period of time.
(of course Sillett won a cup for us)

It's slightly elongated though as i don't think you can put 'caretakers' in the list as they were never managers/appointed managers.

Still a long list of very distinctly average managers at best though.

We got stung badly there didn't we. We thought of him like a god and yet he was totally useless when it came to man management and his understanding of how to control a football club.

There is (well at least used to be) a perception that great footballers make good managers. Butcher was a player who led by example on the pitch and embodied a fighting never die spirit. Guess we believed he would instill that in our players.

From what I recall none of us were moaning when he was appointed.

Personally I blame Strachan, he was the one who got us relegated and I remember him saying the season we did go down he said"our defence is solid" what a plonker.
He has done nothing with better clubs than Coventry not including Celtic co's that's a 2 horse race anyway in a league of Mickey Mouse footballers.
