It would need a built-in flash as it's quite gloomy in those parts.

It’s delusional. I like Sakamoto but he is overrated by our fans.

It’s a bit like Bidwell. Everyone loved him, couldn’t do much wrong, even after performances were declining and then suddenly the penny drops.

The amount of mock depth charts I’ve seen on social media with people having Sakamoto over Esse is laughable. Going into the window it was ‘cover for Sakamoto’ too.

He’s a likeable player and has some good attributes but he doesn’t stand out in any statistical category because he’s just a solid 7/10 player. In my view, he will be a good role player but for where we are, we need better and thankfully have in Esse.

You compare to EMC who is in the top percentiles for:
- 10% for xG
- 5% for shots on target
- 7% for chances created
- 7% successful dribbles
- 2% for touches in opposition
- 3% defensive duels won

Sakamoto:
- 30% for xG
- 30% for shots on target
- 22% for chances created
- 40% successful dribbles
- 29% for touches in opposition
- 25% defensive duels won
- 11% for xA (his best metric by far)
- 22% successful crosses

To clarify, this is comparing both players to the entire leagues AM/wingers and where they rank. Therefore, considering our league position and we’ve created the most chances, most touches in the box and so on… these numbers are not good.

Indeed, and I'd suspect those numbers look even worse if based on the last half dozen or so games

Can’t see us thumping them by any stretch, it’s always a tight game against Leicester with it being a local derby.

First 15 minutes are key for both. If we score early on, we will win. If we aren’t comfortably on top, the crowd goes flat, Leicester will come into it and the tension will take over.

Really hope the crowd stick being the lads, Leicester having a shit allocation will take some sting out of the atmosphere.

Bedsheets will be out early on Saturday morning, nothing tragedy related mind.

2-1 to the Cov Bastards.

It’s more I’d play Esse over Rudi and we’ve only got one RW in that case.

Arguably this is a very crucial and significant game in our season, we’ve been on patchy form, all the teams around us will be thinking “are Cov vulnerable” and them lot up the road will be creaming in their pants to get one over on us, it’s the perfect moment to get back into our stride with a convincing 2-0 / 3-0 win.

Rushworth
MVE, Woolf, Kitching, JDS
Grimes, Eccles
Esse, Rudi, EMC
Simms

I’m pretty sure Sakamoto’s name is listed more than you’d expect from the question ‘who’d make the step up’. He’s good but o’mon?!

His numbers are consistent since he joined, 23/24 was an outlier and he over performed his xG by a lot.

Every team needs a reliable performer who is willing to do the hard work and Sakamoto does that to a tee.

With Esse we’ve got a two-way player who is great at carrying the ball, dribbling past players and creating chances and just as importantly, presses high and makes tackles. He is a next level signing.

Why? Rudoni looked more like his usual self v Stok

For all the narrative around Rudoni, a lot of his underlying numbers are better than Sakmoto’s.

There’s a few things to consider:
- Haji’s form
- BTA’s injury
- Torp’s illness
- Strength of schedule
- 4 games in 9 days over Xmas

We’ve had a tough December and believe that the drop was going to happen even with a full strength side.

Totally agree with this. Torp is absolutely crucial for the Leicester match. Without him, we're likely just gonna be playing right in front of their defence since nobody’s making those dangerous central runs. If Torp’s fit, I think Lampard will probably play Rudoni at 10; if not, maybe Esse steps in to add some of those vital runs through the middle.

Esse will play on the wing, Lampard said he only brought of Rudoni on Saturday to ‘protect him’.

Esse playing AM at Palace was in a 3-4-2-1 shape so not quite a conventional shape that we play. In the Championship, Esse predominantly played RW for Millwall.

The only realistic ones are Rushworth, EMC and Rudoni (the last 2 as squad players).

Not sure how well this will display as it a screenshot from my phone. Rudi, EMC, Dasilva, Torp! Asante, KKH all have a better successful take on rate from those players who do it regularly in play.

I think Frank will stick with his favourites where he can. Torp and BTA if fit enough to take part will start their comebacks off the bench. Sakamoto and EMC will be back in and the two new boys will be on the bench. I think Wolf will still stay alongside Kitching.

Although I would start with Simms I think Frank will opt for Haji.

I have a horrible feeling we are going to lose this just because it is Leicester. But confident we then start getting back on track. It's the Cov way.

It always causes me angst that we play with two wingers and a CF in Wright who cant head. When we plays Simms who is better at heading, the wingers cant cross for toffee. Its quite bizarre

I'm feeling nervous about this one. I'm not too nothered about the local rivalry stuff, I don't live near Cov. I just feel that they are capable of a good performance and ours have been so weak lately. I'm getting anxious that we are in a slump and it's hard to get out of it. I'm still hopeful though and was encouraged by the new signings and hopefully the injured players coming back in. I'd say we will miss Thomas but he didn't play well in his last game. Woolfenden seems a bit shaky though.

Personally dreading this. Haven't enjoyed watching us since Middlesborough away.

Pressure is building in the stands, on the pitch and in the dugout. These next 2 games a pivitol. I fear a complete collapse if we don't pick up at least 1 win from them, The points lead will be gone (still crazy to think some thought it was unasailable) and we'll be a vulnerable wreck of a team.

We need the old CBS atmosphere back. We as fans cant sit there waiting to score/ win all the time, that phase has gone. We need to be fully up for it, hostile for the away team and fully behind the City. Like every home game is now pretty much a must win.

A win in this coupled by Boro falling victim to the good old 'new manager bounce' against Albion on Friday night gets us right back on track

Last Saturday's game, whilst I am not getting my knickers in a twist over a game I was completely indifferent to anyway needs to be the line in the sand, the season starts again now

Club should really be pushing the ticket exchange for this one, every seat needs to be occupied and The CBS needs to be at it's atmospheric and hostile best, just like it was when we last played them at home

Has a huge game feel to it and it is only Monday - and the first game since the play-off matches I have been genuinely nervous for

In defence of Sakamoto, there was a run of games before he got injured where he was in fantastic form, at a time when there was no natural backup for him. After the injury his form fell off at the same time as a lot of other players seemed to have a wobble, and he’s not even the worst example of that. It’s for the best that we have competition for that position now (and most likely a clear upgrade) but he was a big part of why we are where we are.

I would start Simms, I don't agree Wright is a waste of a shirt as he is hitting posts etc., I just think FL favours him over Simms.

Agreed. He was far better pre his concussion injury than he seems at present. He has had flu as well but isn't yet the same as pre injury

EMC is probably the best header of the ball. If we replaced him with a proper winger who can cross and stuck him in the centre I think goals would be there.

We would have to teach him how to stay on side though, as he can't do it on the wing when he just has to look across the line.

Yeah, time for folks to decide if they've got the stomach for it or not. Are we gonna be supporters or spectators? I'll be giving as much sh*t as I can to any wanker near me that's on at players the first chance they get.

On the positive side of things, I see the adidtion of Esse as very timely against Leicester. He should be given the RW starting slot for this one. Leicester are really struggling at LB. So having the option of Esse for 60-70 mins then Tats running at a stand-in LB, is a good one.

On the flip side, I'd be inclined to tell Milan and JDS to be a bit more resevered than normal. Leicester will try quick counters to their wingers. Something we have been suseptable in recent weeks, where Milan has been caught out after an attack breaks down - Blues being a good example.
