It's worth pointing out that Lampard didn't throw Simms on until we went 2-1 up, does that mean that he considers Bassette the most likely to score? And would he have left Bassette on if we hadn't of gone 2-1 up?

Clearly Lamps rates Bassette highly.
But credit also to Simms as he did work hard to make an impact from the bench.

Once Wright is fit we will have some great attacking options!

If only we could learn to keep a clean sheet

I wouldn’t read too much into it to be honest. There’s enough of reading into inane things on this forum.

It’s good that Bassette has been given a chance because we’ve been chopping and changing too much this season for anyone to get form. Simms scores v Watford and he’s out the team. BTA scored 3 in 6 and barely got a game upfront after then. Wright scored 2 v Oxford and didn’t score for 5 games before scoring 4 in 6 games. This season we’ve had too much choice which, imo, has got the worst out of everybody. Robins should’ve stuck with Simms, Bassette or BTA as his first choice and just ran with them for a 5-10 game period come what way instead of tinkering too often. That’s a lesson Lampard needs to heed imo.

Lampard clearly does rate Bassette because he’s a good player and will develop. It’s also been his MO to develop young players.

100% agree on the defending. It’s really holding us back. Specifically conceding the first goal where only Plymouth and Hull have conceded first more often than us (15 versus our 14 games).

Think he played a big part in their goal not tracking back but Id need to see it again.
Other than that, he was superb.

The biggest part was the two CBs stood ball watching TBH. You can’t expect fullbacks to never let a cross in.

A massive feature of today's game, especially first half, was the problems caused by people running with the ball.
Pretty much every good attack was caused by someone getting at the ball and driving at the opposition.
Their no 2 particularly caused us problems.

It's a feature of his game, big player last season, but also a bit of a wind up as well.

3 points, move on. Few green shoots - but defensively so poor.

Collins - just not sure why he’s playing.
JDS - presume only played as bidwell working way back.
Bassette - just so raw, simms needs a run.

And our captain - oof he’s shadow of his best currently.

I'd been getting a bit annoyed with Collins although he'll always be preferable to Wilson for me. But he played well yesterday didn't he?

Distribution poor and slow for me. He’s not the answer.

Granted made couple of saves - novelty

we’ve bought Dovin, he hasn’t really done much wrong, played in front of a chocolate fireguard Defense - we need to invest in him for me.

I'd play Dovin too but I don't see why anyone would call out Collins' performance yesterday tbh.

Collins has set the bar so low that an average performance with a couple of standard saves is seen as a good performance from him. His distribution yesterday was poor. Kicked the ball Burgeesqe straight out a couple of times and delayed the restart when the counter attack was on a few times.

Beginning to think Dovin has upset someone behind the scenes or really hasn't settled in England yet.

I've been one of his biggest critics but 2 of his saves yesterday were far better than standard.

I agree, I’m not sure why Dovin isn’t playing tbh, the chances he’s conceded so far this season have largely been due to our shite defence rather than him personally.

Collins can’t seem to catch anything and has poor distribution, if we’ve bought an expensive keeper for the future then we should be playing him and trying to get the best out of him rather than reverting back to a keeper that looks lost at times and usually has more bad games than good. Just having one decent game yesterday doesn’t mean he’s suddenly great.

They were saves any competent keeper should make. Had he let them in we would be complaining. We have just got used to them going in so now it's a novelty for him to make a couple of saves.

Think that's harsh.
I'm in 13 and had a good view of them and think his concentration was good and he got down smartly.

He wouldn't be first choice if I had my way but there must be a reason why managers keep picking him over Dovin.

What I would say is that I wish we'd stick with a keeper and it seems that that will happen with Collins.

I have this pair of lucky boxers. They are unbeaten. They made their debut versus 4-1 Fulham.
They have since won everytime on about 4 or even 5 occasions.
Can't wear them every match that would never work.
I noticed this morning they are 2nd from top of my pile which means they will get the nod on Saturday.

Rubbish. He's crap but at least give him credit where it's due. The shot from Longman when he cut inside was a good save as he had a couple of bodies in his way and the ball dipped right front of him. Awkward one to face.

His second from Burstow shooting with the outside of his foot was probably one most should make but it looked to be creeping into the left hand corner so he still did really well to stretch a hand out for it.

Totally agree. We now have such low expectations that doing in the absolute minimum that could be expected of any keeper is now seen as a success.

I'd love to think Collins and the team in general have turned a corner and we're going to be seeing regular clean sheets from now on but that's not what I took from yesterday's performance.

We all want success but some people are just so binary on eveything it's insane. You can say it was a competent game. Doesn't have to be either he was terrible or making worldies

I thought Collins played well yesterday and I rate him as a decent number two.

I do think we should be playing Dovin though. It's looking like being a nothing season, neither going down nor making the play-offs, so an ideal time to bed him in.

Collins has been appalling and a couple of half decent saves yesterday doesn't change that.

I would have Dovin in but Lampard seems to like Collins.

When you’re at the point with your keeper than he’s getting praise for keeping out a couple of slow long range shots and not spooning them into the net it’s probably time for a change.

Can with just give Madley around of applause for once again being an awful ref.

The pen was a yellow all day long. He bottled it as he had only just booked their player

The lowlight of Madley's performance yesterday was his decision to let Hull have the ball back after they took a free kick quickly and passed it straight to Torp. Utterly inexplicable, why not just let them have the ball back every time a dead ball doesn't go where they wanted it to?

Ultimately happy with the win and performance. A big difference between yesterday and the final games under Robins is that I can see what the game plan is under Lampard, I can see what the team is trying to do and they seem confident doing it, it's just going to take a few games to figure out who the ideal XI is (I don't think Bassette is the player to ping crosses to from the wing, for example). EMC's improvement has been sensational, the assist will go down as a highlight of a frustrating season.

He did it after an incident in our half as well.
Looked like he was about to pull a card and stopped.
I meant to check if the Hull player involved was on a yellow but forgot but I'd wager he was.

I'm not accussing him of bias.
Would like to see the Bassetre challenge again but I thought the yellow was correct.

Ya not you. just noticed no one mentioned it when talking about the ref.

It was just so high and he caught him too that malice or not I personally wouldn't have any complaints if he had gone. Was reckless

Happy with the result yesterday and also the general performance, creating chances and controlling the ball nicely.

I do feel if we can improve in both boxes we will shoot up the league, yesterday (solely) we could’ve been out of sight if we had chosen better options in certain situations and defensively we just need to be a bit more aggressive, standing off and letting the cross come in and not getting out to the rebound, just dying to see someone throw themselves in front of the ball.

Lots of promising fixtures to come now up until Jan 1st, hopefully plenty of more points to come.

Will stop asking for Dovin at this point. Doesn’t look like he’ll get a look in atm. Need to build confidence so hope Collins with more games under his belt will step up more.
