Yeah, it backfired badly though. We looked an absolute mess & the players had no idea what they were supposed to be doing. MVE constantly running down blind alleys with nobody in front of him & then losing the ball was a particular highlight.

If that's what our "elite tactician" cooked up for day 1 then I hope he's got something better for the future.

It's one game in.
You can't get a team playing how you want with 2 days of training and a single game.
We didn't look a mess in the first half and played some decent stuff, second half I admit was wank.

Milwall should see a much more cohesive performance and a clearer game plan you'd hope.
Absolutely no need to panic one game into his tenure here.

After our usual slow start last season, we went on a pretty decent run,the team that drew with Southampton, drew away at leeds and beat Sunderland was a defence of Collins, mve kitching, Thomas bidwell, midfield of wright Allen sheaf sakamoto upfront ohare behind simms, back 4 never changed for those games, when they’re all fit again there‘s only o hare missing, so can’t say the players aren’t good enough They’ve done it last season, somethings dramatically changed, they look nowhere near

Agreed, which is why I was surprised we tried to do something quite so radical in 48 hours.

In hindsight, clearly a mistake. Still doesn’t excuse some of the stuff we saw even allowing for that.

It's an odd one because first half it was going fine.
For the most part people knew what they were doing and we were playing some decent stuff.

Second half was a travesty. Not sure if Frank tried to give them different instructions and they just didn't understand it, or if their heads just dropped after the early goal and just went through the motions.

We were giving away loads of space first half too. Just got punished for it after half time.

The players haven’t looked like they know what’s expected all season.

The fact is Robins - who you clearly didn’t want to leave - has failed. It’s like your boss telling you to buy a great big feast from Waitrose and you end up going to the happy shopper but pay the same price.

It was obvious his time was coming to an end. He sanctioned signings that haven’t delivered. He has mainly succeeded with a band of players he managed to motivate and over perform from league one days and the obvious two players that worked well.

Sneering about an elite coach is pretty telling. With robins we have looked disjointed and poor all season and his ability to motivate has clearly not worked with this latest crop of players.

The excuses for the mess of his creation are pointless. Hes gone that’s it

This is the match thread for yesterday's game, I was commenting on yesterday's game, nothing else.

You have once again gone off on a tangent about Robins. I never mentioned him once. You have wanted him out for what, 3 or 4 years now? You've finally got what you wanted, let's hope it works out.

We were shite but we got away with a draw, a full weeks coaching of the new system should help us improve.

Need to change the keeper though

I'm not sure it was going fine in the first half. We looked vulnerable and players like Eccles and Van Ewijk couldn't get into the game

Having watched the highlights back. Their first goal is 100% offside, but Collins and the defence need to be better.

The second goal again Collins should do better and what the fuck was Eccles doing? Binks the only one attempting to get out and block.

I'm not sure it is, I think Bassette back leg may be playing him on. If he's off it's a Haji Wright toenail off.

It looks onside to me.

Second goal better hit than I first expected. Still don't expect to concede from that position on pitch though

Maybe it’s like Frostie said and tweaked too much at once and players left unsure. Certainly looked lost.

Too be honest I don't care if tactics isn't his strong point.
Good management is about recognising your own weaknesses and assembling a team around you to compensate for your short falls.
Alex Ferguson wasnt an outstanding tactician.

If anything, keeping it simple is best for these players.

I know it's a slightly different bunch, but we've played our best stuff over the last few years keeping it simple.

The play off season we were quick in attack and direct. Yes, sometimes we kept the ball and passed it around a bit, but most of our successful attacks were from being very fast and direct. One ball up to Vik from Gus and we were away.

We've got too many players like Latibeaudiere who are very rigid in how they play, and it needs to be kept simple for them.
Trying to get certain players in this team to play it around, be confident on the ball, have quick pass and go's and know when to underlap / overlap just isn't going to work.
We do have players that are capable, but on the whole we have a mix of no nonsense direct footballers and possession based passing footballers. Torp, Rudoni, Eccles, Sheaf, MVE, Wright, Sakamoto and Dasilva will have no problems but the likes of Thomas, Kitching, Bidwell, Latibeaudiere, Simms, BTA just aren't the right fit for that style. None of them are good enough on the ball.

Finding a style for this team is going to be tough for Frank I think. It's been tough for Robins and Rhys as has been evident. It's so clear to see that some players are square pegs in round holes.

Football is a simple game at its heart. Trying to copy Pep is fine when you have much better players than the rest or you've got world class players at your disposal, but at our level it isn't necessary.

Pass and move is what better teams in this league do best. Championship defenders cannot handle that type of football.

Think based on David’s and other comments this is how we attacked in this system.

Hoping Binks starts at Leftback next match

We've been trying pass and move for a while and for the most part it's been ineffective because people either aren't making the right runs, there's no one to support or we just straight up completely miss the pass and give it away.

Whether Frank can coach that into them, who knows. But as you said, with what we have it's better off to keep it simple.

They must bring back Kitching, and I would insert Torp for Eccles. But Frank is wedded to 4-3-3 so your line up above becomes
Dovin
MVE - Kitching-Thomas-Binks
Torp Sheaf Rudoni
Tats Simms EMC

Personally I would:-
1. Bidwell at left back
2. Tell Tats & MVE to just spend the whole week sussing out how best to get one or other of them to the byline to cross

I don't get the obsession with Binks, he's been poor defensively, I don't get why you would shoehorn him in out of position at left back ahead of playing Bidwell.

He’s better than Bidwell and Lampards system seems to play the lb as a lcb when in possession. Also he’s the only cb we have who can pass.

And what about out of possession? Given we've been conceding for fun? We've kept 2 clean sheets in the 7 league games Bidwell has started this season. And we moan about lack of experience and leaders.

Bidwell is as poor as the others tbh. Binks is OK defensively and likes to bomb on I think he’s be fine at LB and better in the air and with the ball than Bidwell.
