Don't think you can blame Pressley for Thomas... As it was in fact Andy thorn which made him a regular in our relegation season. He then spent a year out injured and then since being 20/21 became a regular which isn't too young and is the exact ages players should be breaking into the first team Imo.

It wasn't me that mentioned Pressley. But I think Pressley kept playing him when he had lost form which was what damaged his reputation with the fans and knocked his confidence. Not sure who else Pressley could have played? But the situation wasn't properly addressed until TM brought in Ward on loan.

It will be a big season for Thomas, but a fresh start and hopefully he can get his form back on track. It can only benefit the team if he does and gives us another option.

A lot of you seem to want all our players to "bulk up" and I'm presuming you mean by adding gym muscle.....

I disagree....especially with players such as Maddison who is not a bruising centre-half or old-fashioned No.9 ...these are young lads who will fill out naturally as they physically mature into grown men...

....adding muscle mass quickly can often be detrimental to other performance factors.... increased risk of fatigue, cramp, "bonking" & it also can reduce the players natural mobility/agility.

Fast feet & a fast mind will always win out over brute force & ignorance.......even in this division.

Ease Maddison into a winning team with 40 mins here & 50 mins there...let him develop naturally.....by the last 3rd of the season, we'll hopefully have a match-winner on our books.....

....Oh yeah....and don't fucking boo the lad whne he makes errors. (but I bet some do this season)

I don't think anybody expects him to be like Akinfenwa. However, what happens when he comes up against a Reda Johnson? Yes he has quick feet and yes a few times he could nutmeg him and run round but he probably would get taken out / bullied, in League One it is a bit rougher than the Premier League.

It isn't just about being hench, it is also being able to be solid.

I don't think this division is really a huge physical difference from the top division or that bruisers particularly excel, it's more that the average touch is so much shitter there are more loose balls to contest so it looks more of a battle.

Totally agree. He looked like a little boy lost when he made in onto the pitch last season. Seriously needs a bit of bulking up.

Thomas is quite stocky. Also looked great in a couple matches when he came on that I watched. Use sparingly, ease him in (as with most youngsters) and I don't think you can go wrong.

Leon Best would score for fun in this division, but unlikely to cut wages and drop division? But who knows?

Marc Antoine Fortune anyone?

Best could be a bit of Mcgoldrick scenario, after his last 2 seasons with bad injuries and shocking form (33 games 0 goals last season) teams won't exactly be queuing up to sign him, dropping down and regaining his form could be exactly what he needs.

Yeah Thomas is quite chunky, reminds me a bit of Martin Waghorn.

Nick, If it was still the 1980s, I'd agree. I appreciate this division has its share of brutes & bullies who have been around the block & played at this level most of their careers, but if they are too physical these days, they get booked. Simple as that.

Maddison appears to have confidence in abundance & seems to have a little bit of wily craft about him too.....Yep, he may take a few knocks & digs, but he'll win us a lot of free kicks in the process......as I said, he'll fill out naturally, I just don't believe hitting the weights bench will improve his game.

That's a good comparison actually! Don't know why people want him to bulk up... Just seems like an in thing to say now.

If he is good enough it will happen. But at this stage we should not be looking to him or Maddison as being striker/midfield options. Players can get through their first few appearances on adrenaline. It is very different expecting them to do it week in week out especially once confidence drops.

that is why TM needs three strikers and along with Tudgay. George Thomas, Maddison, Lawton and any other youngsters should be left to develop in their own time and I trust TM, Venus and Co to know when that time is right.

Sorry, I haven't said week in week out? I agree with what you've said, although I do feel Maddison will be 1st choice, at least for the first couple months of the season. Not to say he'll play every game or 90 minutes each time. Mowbray will know how to use him.

I still think Maddison and maybe Thomas will be coming off the bench early in the season, when there are a few tired legs and the game is getting a bit more stretched. Then it will depend on individual performances.

Well, I suppose we'll see!! I don't know what Mowbray's thinking, but I trust him to do the right thing.

that is why they need looking after not bulking up. They are still developing physically. It not just physical fatigue, then need a rest from the mental fatigue.

Fast feet and fast minds are very good attributes at any level of football. Gallacher wasn't the biggest but was a great player at the city.

Good luck to all our youngsters in the coming seasons.

It would be physically possible for him to fly back in time.

Asked Andy Turner but no reply, would be nice though!

really cant imagine forest paying for a player to go out to sweden for their pre season tour and then sending them back after 45 minutes of play they have 2 more games out there this early in the pre season even if your not going to sign him you might as well keep him out there to give yourself rotation options

Bang on. The Man U fitness/conditioning coach was on the radio a few weeks back talking about ronaldo's physical development, and even he was saying all kids physically develop at their own rates, have their own natural shapes and you can't rush it, and you certainly shouldn't 'bulk' any young player up, it's about conditioning. He said that if you bulk players up unnaturally in football they lose their speed of movement and agility. All this talk of bulking up Thomas and Maddison is bollocks.

yeah okay true, perhaps a key problem with SP was that from his 40 signings he never did bring in someone to cover at CM for Thomas. But to say that SP ruined him is incorrect as he wasn't a kid anymore.
