I know it is an easy game to mock some of the stuff coming out from SP right now but a long article on something so basic as defending properly for the whole game? Perhaps if we set out to win matches, had speed and goal threats higher up the pitch, gave the defence options to pass to and didn't sit back inviting pressure on to the defence for the last 12 minutes it wouldn't be a problem......... :thinking about:

Are you suggesting we don't press high enough?

not as simple as that really. We don't have a lot of pace so don't get beyond the lines very well. We don't support the front man with runs from the midfield or even picking up the knock downs very well. Our back four sits deep and the forwards press the opposition defence which in turn leaves a large amount of ground in the centre of the pitch for the rest of the team to press. What you often have in the midfield is someone like JOB running round all over the shop doing the pressing and running out of steam whereas what you should have is the whole team high pressing together, moving up the pitch as a unit keeping the space between them the same/similar. We create spaces for the opposition to play in/through because our lines and the gap between them gets stretched. We end up being pressed back and pressure on the defence. High press defensively is only part of it though isn't it, surely our decision making needs to be better when attacking, we need to move the ball quicker at times (there are times when slow retention or game management are right of course but not all the time) and by doing so press the opposition back so in the breakdown we are better set to defend but more importantly maybe score some goals.

Just how it seems to me any how

At last! Someone with a clear, concise, vision and proper plan to move this team up the league. Well Done Nick

Throwing away leads is less of a problem for us now than in previous seasons.

Mostly because we take the lead less often.

What a boring report I couldn't even be bothered to read it all as soon as it said his mantra for this week. The game is simple score more than the opposition, the modern managers drive me crazy with all these stats that they trot out like we had 75% of the ball so we should have won. You can have 1% of the ball and win the game.

Another none headline.
As I've said this sort of stuff should be like hygiene ie going on without talking about it.
FFS push them on the real issues.

Only 1 mantra per week.
