The same limitations are evident in ellis simms using this logic , had less touches than godden Saturday, a worse pass completion ratio , less ball recoveries , won less aerial duels, but scored 2 .. had he not scored would fans like yourself have said its like playing with 10 men ? Probably not because you're bloody clueless about it all .. it's nonsense

Move on from the matty godden hate , it's fucking boring , he plays for the team , the manager like him so get over it

Absolutely. Simms actually missed a load of presentable chances as well as scoring and should have set up at least one easy chance for Godden. It's great Simms has scored at last but Godden is still by far our first choice forward. Fortunately Robins knows this and he is not the sort just to play the most expensive players.

Ellis will only improve from this point in his career, Godden will only deteriorate.

Neither of those are a given, but what matters is how good they are at this point. Funny you call one by his first name as if he's a mate and the other by his surname.

It was almost certain that Godden is not going to improve at the age of 32. Statistically it’s highly unlikely. Simms is highly likely to improve at 22.

if you are in denial over that I suspect your other opinions are equally flawed.

As has been said Simms is 22 and Godden is 32, it will be a surprise if they don't have opposite ability paths in the future.

It's just age. Godden is a good striker but he's 32 so this is likely as good as it gets with him.

Simms will get better , godden will eventually decline , we actually have godden in some of the best form since he's been here , so the decline hasn't really begun yet ..

6 goals in 10 games this season ..
I still am confused what we're debating boys ???

Drop godden for wright because he cost money , ......nah

Maybe play someone other than Godden for a game so we can find out how good they are? Godden can still come on if you want. I don’t understand why he has to play every minute of every game.

I'm not sure what reason there is to pull him out , the reason Robins seems to keep Godden on is he trusts him to work the hard yards to drop back and keep defending from the front .. I'd imagine he doesn't see that yet in the other 2 .. Haji wright being caught offside in the Huddersfield game because he bimbled back seemed like nothing until they score from the set piece .. it's the small things , the manager and adi know football

That isn't to say they're not working tirelessly with Wright to try and mould him into the footballer they expect to see at the club

And as was highlighted at the start of the season, it was the fittest Godden has been going into the start of the season with no underlying injuries in preseason etc. IF, and it's a big IF, he can stay fit for the majority of the season, it would be his first chance for a sustained run at Championship level.

He's in a team that, as it (hopefully) improves, will create chances for him. Rather than last year when he was purely on the pitch to selflessly create space for Vik. In the League 1 season, he was on the pitch purely to finish off the chances our CAMS and wing backs created for him. If the rest of the team improves and we create more chances for him, and he stays fit, there's no reason why he can't bag a similar return at this level - which would be his best ever season, at a personal level, at the highest level in his career. And I do personally think his overall game has improved slightly too under Robins. I'm not saying we're going to win the league though!!

Vardy was improving into his early 30s and had his second highest return at Prem level of 23 the 2019/20 season at the age of 32/33 - only bettered by 1 goal the year Leicester won the league.

So because Godden is late to play at this level, and has had a patchy injury record so far in the Champ, there's no reason why he can't improve and further establish himself at this level in his early 30s.

The idea we've bought Simms and Wright to play together is nonsense.

We bought them because we needed strikers, its now down to the strikers to earn their place.

Agreed. Expect godden to start tmrw and so he should.

If we go 3 up again though I would once again like to see what a Simms wright partnership might look like though!

Yeah, wouldn't have hurt to give Simms and Wright 10-15 minutes on Saturday

Comparing Godden to the probably 2 best players there has ever been?

But yes definitely Ronaldo was a shadow of himself, will finish but made the team worse he played in

If we’re talking about divine rights to start then I’d say someone that is virtually a 1 in 2 striker for us over 5 seasons ranks above a high transfer fee.

If we’re talking about current form then Godden still starts. How can anyone advocate dropping someone that’s scored 6 in 10 this season.

Just mooching on their board and it seem Dom Hyam has gone from being the “biggest steal” to a slow donkey in the fans view
He wouldn’t even be on our bench now! Seems like they’ve also got Ennis on the bench straight after a long lay off, if our experiences are anything to go by, that could end in an even longer one resulting

If we only have 1 chance to score, I know who I'd like to be on the end of that chance.

And it won't be Simms, that's for sure.

Simms may have got a brace against QPR. And fair play to him, he is showing signs of improvement (but the bar was set very very low) and he could of scored 5 and had a simple assist.

What is all this bullshit with Godden. He is our top scorer and would have scored at QPR if Simms had more awareness of his position instead of shooting from a really tight angle. Godden is making the runs, creating space for other players and works his socks off. MR trusts him to do what he is told. Put Simms through with a great header on Saturday and had bad luck when his shot hit Lati. The criticism you could aim at him is his injury record over the years. His goals to game ratio is excellent.
QPR are dreadful at home and one win does not change the dynamic. We have to be on it against Blackburn who have a class footballing side. We have just played three of the weakest sides in the division who I expect to finish in the bottom half (including Cardiff who IMO are currently playing above their ability). Last season we took 9 points from those fixtures this season 4. We can beat Blackburn but our defence have to cut out the stupid mistakes. On average, we are making two a match and the better teams will exploit that. I expect the same team and a close match.

The problem with Godden is he contributes little to team play. 10 assist in 120 games, often anonymous and isolated.
That costs the team. Although it’s hard to quantify.

Don't think Godden will decline that much over the next couple of years. He's never been pacy so not much to lose there. Think he will be similar to Billy Sharp in that respect.
