One of my main memories as a kid was watching two VHS Coventry tapes on repeat. One was the 98/99 season review. The other was a tape of Coventry’s 101 Greatest Goals. Does anybody else remember the latter and if so where I could find it? Proper nostalgia for me! Would welcome any other Coventry VHS reminiscing!

I’m fairly certain I’ve got/had101 Greatest Goals. I’m off this week and having a bit of a tidy. I’ll have a look.

That 101 greatest goals was less a compilation of our '101 greatest goals' and more a compilation of 101 goals that they were able to secure the rights to show. I swear to god there is a penalty on it. It has Micky Quinn on the cover.

If memory serves me right, it was only goals in the premier league years I think?

I think I'm thinking of 2 different DVDs. This was the one in my head but its clearly not called 101 greatest goals. I remember being so non-plussed by it I left an 2 star Amazon review 12 years ago. I include here for your reading pleasure :

This DVD is supposed to showcase the best moments from CCFC over the last eleven seasons, based on CCFC fan's nominations. A great idea in principle, but I was left disappointed and slightly perplexed by some of the content.
For example, there is no mention of the club's 3-0 win over Arsenal at Highbury in the first game of the 93/94 season, courtesy of Mick Quinn's hattrick, but we are 'treated' to all seven goals in the FA cup win over mighty Macclesfield Town! Do City fan's really regard the latter as a bigger achievement? I think not.
I also found the picture quality extremely poor for a DVD. Coupled with the terrible sound (complete with abysmal dubbed over local commentator for most clips) I was left feeling short changed.
It does, however, include most of the club's finest moments over this time period, including the 4-1 hammering of V***a at Vile Park, the fantastic 3-2 win against Man U, and the 5-1 mauling of Liverpool.
The interview's with the likes of Oggy, Richard Shaw and Dion are also worth listening to.

There was another video which started with a Tommy English goal in the early 80s (before my time) and then showed pretty much every goal of the 88/89 - 90/91 seasons. Was that the 101 'greatest goals' one?... Can't find my thoughts on Amazon about that one though.

Yeah this looks older. Think mine included goals up to 1999?

I used to have the 89/90 VHS on repeat when I was a kid,(got Kevin Drinkell to randomly sign the front cover at a City v Vile reserve match )
I used to have one too called The Sky's Still Blue which was a review of Big Rons first season - the commentator on it sounds like Alan Partridge

Greatest goals off the top of my head:
Houtch at Wembley.
Hudson, think it was against Southampton.
Hunt free kick against Everton.
Huckerby against Man U.

Been present for many amazing goals since 1980. Hamer at Wembley was the most emotional for me. One of the best moments of my life for all kinds of reasons.

Two spring to mind:

Gary Mac’s volley vs Derby
Paul Williams 35 yarder vs Spurs

The only shinned 35 yard goal on record.

I seem to remember the greatest goals VHS had interviews with Keane and Hadji at the end of it, and a little but about our original new stadium idea.

As an aside, does anyone remember the magazine we used to have around that time in newsagents?

This rings a bell? There was a bit about the new stadium in the 98/99 season review. Amuses me how different the model looks from our stadium now.

Just a bit

11 year old me was absolutely sold on the idea of a state of the art retracting pitch and having the new National Stadium on our doorstep though...

Yeah I have these. They were from the 95/96 season but didn't last long from memory. I'll dig them out.

Didn't he score our first goal of the season on the opening day one year? 1-1 v Wimbledon I'm thinking

Those shots that nestle in the corners are always the hardest. No blame on Kharine for that!

Busst scored our goal v Wimbledon in the opening match of 94/95. I sat in the newly opened East Stand. Another pathetic crowd of about 10K I think.

he only ever scored twice for us, apparently.
once at home against chelsea, and once away to them in the same season.

the funny thing is, i remember the away goal because it was midweek. me and my mate steve drove down, but got to the ground later than expected. long story short, and because we were in a rush, we ended up in the home end. not ideal when you have your cov shirts on. we asked if we could be moved, but they said we would have to pay again. stuff that.
so we just went and stood by some coppers! still awkward when morgan scored that rather nice free kick.
that's the real reason i remember it so well, and maybe overinflated how good a goal it was.

they were great days as a fan!

In the late 1987 the BBC brought out this video - 101 Greatest goals on MotD. I was bought it for Christmas. It finishes with just one goal from the 1987 FA Cup final…

Clive Allen’s opener!
