Hi, Swindon fan in peace...

I've seen you have a Coventry Arena station but seen quite a few people saying that it's not available for fans on match days, despite fact I can buy tickets on National Rail?
Can anyone shed some light on this please, if it isn't available - better to get buses or taxis right?

We've sold 2050 tickets so far, hoping to maybe reach 2500. Looking forward to a good game between 2 pretty good football sides.

No idea if it is now open on match days, however I did see a train stop there (coming from Nuneaton to Cov) at our last home game, and was told by a friend that trains were laid on for last Saturday's Wasps v Leicester game

They are only running for rugby due to the fact the rugby team is the biggest in Europe and gets much bigger crowds.

Also worth pointing out its only the regular service if it does stop so it will be of no use if big numbers are planning on using it.

:jerkit:I can confirm it stops for wasps games but not sky blues. Another kick in the teeth by our beloved council and midlans rail.

i get this train each morning to work and its a joke. Theres one carriage that everyone squeezes on sometimes 30 or more people standing and people being turned away on the platform because its to full. Despite numerous complaints to midlands rail they give the standard response of they dont have anymore trains to use and that you have to accept it that trains are busy.

yet on a sunday they can magically find another train to put on for the rugby :jerkit:

If it costs them money you can't really blame them for not running it during our home games. Wasps are willing to pay towards the service. That's why it's running. Now can anyone think of a solution to this problem?

Interesting difference in the quotes from Wasps and London Midland. SISU get accused of spin on here.
That said, it's short sighted to expect it to be an immediate success. I genuinely think a regular matchday service for both teams would be successful in the end, it should be a given. Only once people are aware of a regular service will they change behaviour and start using it.

When we played Swindon in October, we were 19 places and 12 points ahead of them. After Saturday, that could be down to 4 places and 3 points.

You are right about the finances of this project, the passenger numbers to justify the expenditure I saw were bordering on blatant lies in my opinion.

Speaking of stations, I was walking past the main Coventry rail station and it looks much better now the view has been opened up since they demolished that horrible tower block which stood next to it. I just hope the view I saw from the junction of Park Rd & Manor Rd isn't blocked by a new monstrosity to house the council slackers.

For the Harlequins game 650 people used the service 50 of which were trainspotters.

Sounds to me like they don't need to worry about trains not stopping there after games as advised by the SAG. They can clearly just run a normal service and it will cope. It might need to change for us if we ever reach the dizzy heights of the premier league again but until then it looks like the SAG were over cautious with their suggestions and over optimistic on the numbers that they anticipated using it straight after games at the Ricoh.

Seems to me that possibly the only time trains might need to be chartered is for a big concert as the experiment has shown it's not needed for a typical match day. Just glad it's Wasps money that got spanked on it and not ours.

Would be gutted if this doesn't work.
Would love to be able to catch the train to a Cov match and have a beer and have no worries about driving.

Don't find m it funny at all, just find it a crying shame. Let's hope they sort it out for the benefit of CCFC and our fans

Well received by Wasps fans? A crowd of 22000 against Leicester, only 2000 used the service. Less than 10%. A crowd of 14500 for the Harlequins games, only 600 used the service. Less than 5%.

Estimated loss of £30000 in the headline. In the body of the story a loss of £18000 for Harlequins game and £15000 for the Leicester game. Don't think the loss amount appears on the front of the paper edition.

Now SISU losses, big red letters splashed across the front page. It may not be a conspiracy but it most certainly is spin. Think we know who the favourable spin is being given too.

The issue I have is that the spin is never challenged by the CT. They pretty much copy and paste what Wasps want them to print. Take this story

Who locally is going to use it?
Have to make your way to the main station. It is quicker just catching the bus or driving to the Ricoh.

i can walk to the Bermuda station in probably five minutes and then get the train but why would I bother when I can leave my house at 2.20pm on match day park and get in the ground for 2.50pm and will have cost me under a pound in mileage charges.

Well of course it's not magic because most people don't go to work on a Sunday so there are plenty of trains going spare.

I am just annoyed that it didn't work, for some reason that's a cause for celebration here. As oppose to thinking about the benefit for Cov fans if it did work and some could catch a train to the match making it an even more enjoyable experience.

Not sure what was the worse. Throwing away the win at the end or being in the heavy rain and wind behind the goal without any cover and having to give my coat to my youngest lad leaving me in just my Cov top.

Get the train to the game. Goto the Casino after the game and get train home ~1 hour after game has finished... or longer if you go on a winning streak!

Good luck in the casino to make up for the bad luck on the pitch...
