Providing direct links to the Wasps' website to buy tickets for their first match at the Ricoh.

Not something they do for either CCFC or Cov RFC as far as I can see.

Its an article about their prices with a link, the same as the Telegraph reported when City announced their prices, with a link.

We regularly run news stories / links for CCFC season tickets and matchday tickets / offers online and in print. ( Like this one http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sp...s/coventry-city-scrap-matchday-ticket-7947232 )

We also run paid-for adverts for CCFC, and even did so when they were at Sixfields.

I can't see why we wouldn't let people know how to get hold of tickets for sports events taking place in the city, or take adverts from sports teams in /around the city?

I remember when we had the Pink, great for following all Sport in Coventry. They still covered the Villa and the Blue Noses...we did not get all insular back then?

Probably true, but no less concerning the speed with which it appears to have been 'embraced'.

Shouldn't be here though, Simon. I notice you and yours didn't start one of your Twitter petitions trying to stop it.

So that means accepting it and helping it to gain a foothold?

I thought newspapers were supposed to be beyond the finance, and stand up for the social...

There was nothing like the united opposition to the Wasps move from our readers / the people of Coventry as there was to the Sixfields move. The people of Coventry have been, and continue to be, split over the move. You only have to look at our comments sections / letters pages to see that.

It's not comparing like for like.

So the newspaper should never challenge political decisions either, as the public will always be split over them?

What, ultimately, is a point of a newspaper that holds no opinions one way or another?

Of course we stand up for the community, but there is no general consensus on this issue from our local community.

To communicate fair and accurate information to people and allow them to make informed decisions.

And the lack of consensus is surely a reason to delve deeper and ask questions. Why do you need 100% agreement on a subject to ask questions? In fact, even if 100% agreement is forthcoming, why does that stop a journalist challenging the ideological position put in front of them?

A newspaper is never 'fair', a newspaper always has a skewed perspective one way or another.

If it wanted to be fair, it'd ask questions and not just roll over.

We wrote around 40 articles between first revealing the talks and the deal officially being announced.

If we're still being accused of not "asking questions" after that, you'll have to forgive me if I grow tired of defending our integrity.

We're not perfect. But we do our best!

I'm genuinely astonished at the position of 'it'll happen anyway' as a reason to roll over.

After all, a political move of not taking a position is still... taking a position.

Up until now, I've not really been that fussed about the reporting as, well, it is what it is. The same as Les Reid was offering a certain perspective by interviewing Seppala, so other reporters (including yourself) were offering a certain perspective in other articles.

This, now, however, suggests that bar an opinion piece from Andy Turner against Wasps coming to the city, the attitude of the paper is a big fat 'meh'.

Which is... astounding.

As a matter of interest, did the local paper in Northampton "take a position" on the move to Sixfields?

One would sincerely hope they didn't advertise tickets for sale to the games amongst their readership...

And tbh I'd also hope they didn't report on the games, too!

I shall go and have a look though... just for you

It was a serious question - I have no idea what they did/didn't do.
