Went yesterday ! What a fabulous advert for the sport and a great day out. Few beers in the local pubs, beer in the stand watching two well matched and talented teams. Good win in the end for Cov in front of ironically their best crowd of the season. Best moment apart from the winning penalty was the BPA announcer giving out one other rugby score of the day...........the defeat for Wasps at Sale.........greeted with a cheer from the loyal fans of the Blue and Whites !!
Maybe this hoohah over rugby will indirectly benefit our local team after all as long as they maintain their independence and identity !
C'mon Cov.........and C'mon City !!

What was really funny was the deadpan way John Butler announced it: "I can report Wasps have lost their LV cup game. I'm saying nothing further"! Cue: loud cheers

Missed that announcement but it was probably around 1500, it will be included in John Butlers match report over the next 24 hours or so on www.coventryrfc.co.uk

1354 I think. Pretty sure Cov have the best League 1 average attendance and higher than maybe a third/half of Championship teams.

Hi Michael
Was also at game yesterday, made a change drinking a Guinness while watching an enjoyable match even if we did leave it late, some dodgy refereeing I thought. We had a great day out and Billy Bell is just the same in bar afterwards with some naff jokes.

Shame I didn't see you. Think I spotted Wingy in the distance. Butts is always a good afternoon out but did get a bit tense towards the end!

And I thought they were all rude, loud, obnoxious and constantly sticking their fingers up each other's bums? You just can't believe anything you read on here.

So, fans of the rugby team don't seem happy about it? I thought they were all excited about the Wasps move? Those making up these claims and backing thr move are a disgrace to the city. Some of them are even going to give money to a hedge fund.

Som are and some are not, some will watch Wasps some wont, some will take in games of both some wont. I went yesterday it was a good game and a good day out and I for one will be giving a hedge fund a lot less money this season than I have in the past except for last season of course.

Can't understand why no one's organising a protest on 21 Dec. Go for it, Sickboy!

I haven't seen any posts claiming all, or in fact any, Cov RFC fans were excited about Wasps coming. I have seen plenty of posts saying they don't seem all that bothered, which I'd broadly agree with.

So if you have made that claim up I guess you are calling yourself a disgrace.

If Villa or leicester losses were announced at City games they would get a cheer, I may even join in, but actually I'm not that bothered at all. In fact I'd like all local teams to be doing well in the same division, it'd give us some great games.

The best form of 'protest would be to attend CRFC the same weekend and any other weekend.

So we want a CCFC fan to organise a protest when the local RFC Or Wasps fans aren't bothered. Interesting ?

Yes I was there yesterday as well.
I was quite shocked at the amount of people I knew there quite a few EX and current CCFC fans in he crowd. Too be honest their are some of us Steve, BHSB, Wingy, etc that just like watching and promoting local Coventry Teams in any sport.
That is why I get annoyed at the snidie one sided comments from people who only like football and have a childish, idiotic opinion on people who don't follow their views on sport.
(not aimed at you btw)......

Sickboy and other City fans on here seem very opposed to the wasps move

Good away point for CCFC and good win for Cov Rugby (although too close for comfort). A good weekend for those that support all things that are Coventry.

But the reasons relate to CCFC not Cov RFC.

They appear to believe that CCFC can still buy the stadium and the Wasps move has stopped it. When in reality it was never going to happen and if it did it would be Sisu who control it and CCFC renting it.

CCFC will always rent a stadium off someone. I don't want it to be Sisu or CCC as I don't trust them. I just want this over and Wasps feel like a pair of safe hands to move it forward.

My issue with it isn't just about ccfc but for the city of Coventry. I am not a huge rugby fan but will be going along to support the rugby club in the future as they are going to need all the support they can get.

Agree. But a lot of Ccfc fans don't live in Coventry so can't get into all things Coventry.

If I want to get into Rugby it appears easier for me to walk up the Ricoh and watch what appears to be be a nomadic top class rugby side than adopt some other towns mediocre Rugby club.

I have a bit of an incentive because a lot of my pub colleagues are looking Forward to doing the same.

Perhaps I should rephrase that.
They appear to be the best way forward considering the other options.

What do you or any of us really know about 'Wasps' and their money men ? There was a very interesting post from a Wasps fan that suggests that this could turn out to be a very lucrative deal for the wasps board if they got to sell on the Ricoh in a few years time.

It's pretty small-minded to celebrate someone else losing. IMO, the Wasps moving to the Ricoh is the best thing that could have happened to CCFC. It keeps SISU/Otium away from owning it and it's good for everyones finances.

They can't sell it as the Council own it.

As for who are Wasps ? I dont know.
But what I do know is that already they appear to be very professional about everything and gives me a positive feeling for the future. After all the very first they do is buy ACL. Something SISU have never done.

That's my view as well, but when SISU finally give up we'll be in a position where we are pretty stuck, the sale of ACL to Wasps means we don't have much chance of an improved future. If Higgs want to sell the Council could have bought their share, and the Council could have taken a long term view in the belief that SISU won't want to keep funding the club forever.

A Premiership rugby club does a secret deal with your landlords and lands in your backyard as potential competition for your support.............The defeat was announced, people were pleased, get over it ! As for ownership of the Ricoh, I didn't want a franchise rugby club or a hedge fund to get their mits on it but what's done is done. I hope Wasps fail and sell 100% of ACL to CCFC eventually and that's a CCFC with responsible and ambitious owners by the way. Dreaming I know but............
