One last thing I would add, when entering or exiting, always be prepared to give way so other cars can either pass in front or behind you.
And as I said before, if you miss an exit just keep on driving and you will come back to it, then have another go.

Driving round and round with an ICE car is great for the inner city environment, I bet.

I hate driving on it because so many locals aren't prepared to give way, it is a typical city dweller driving style not to do so. (City not exclusively Coventry. Even locally includes Birmingham, Leicester, London etc). Unfortunately I had a few near misses in my early driving days in the Model T

Sound advice In first sentence.

How far is a complete circle on the road? It’s ok going round agsinunless you are pushed for time or low on fuel / charge.

There's no need to make a full lap of the ring road is there, use the next junction and just come back on yourself.

Was merely trying to point out that if you do miss a junction, its not the catastrophe some people make it out to be, stay calm, keep driving and the very same junction will appear again in front of you and hopefully on the second attempt you will complete the manoeuvre.

Providing other users are always be prepared to give way so other cars can either pass in front or behind you. Which they are not. I had a look in street view and the number of potential near misses is a bit scary.

A few years ago (quite a few in reality), I used to drive a lot in London. I perfected a technique called “ I will always beat you way from the lights, and get to the next light first”. It was very effective, if occasionally unnerving for other road users. I have never had an accident with another moving vehicle, although I have managed to drive in to a bollard despite my car having every safety device known to the Germans.

Extremely low speed, £5,500 repair cost due to the presence of said safety devices in the “bumper”.

Expensive bumpers are the dumbest thing. The entire point of them is to protect the expensive bits of your car.

It’s unbelievable how hard that is for some people though!

For me, it’s about acting in an anticipatory way, getting in to position before the turn off that I know is coming. What makes my piss boil on any road is cars overtaking me, and then immediately pulling off in front of me and exiting a slip road. FFS why?
The other one is me stopping at a red loght and having drivers behind either gesticulating at me for having obeyed the rule - or driving straight past in an outer line, Total wankers, both types. Drivers should also remember that an amber light means stop unless it is unsafe to do so. If i have stopped, so could anyone else.

I’d urge anybody with anything bad to say about Cov ring road to go and have a look at Leicester, Wolverhampton or Derby ring road. You’ll be eating your words!

TBH Nottingham is pretty crap as well, the whole concept of inner ring road dual carriageways seems madness to me. Why bring loads of traffic in toward the centre of a built up area rather than scoot them round the outside.

I use the eastern bypass quite a lot and the improvements (overpass and underpass) that have been made there I think are phenomenal. The unmonitored and hence unobserved speed limits at places are difficult to understand.

It’s not the bumpers per se, it’s the cost of the active kit hidden behind them to protect pedestrians etc who cross the road when they shouldn’t. Like say the A444. Thats what made the fact I hit the bollard (if only it had kept still) so annoying. All this safety kit expected by governments, driving car prices ever higher so they can rake in more “luxury car tax” and vat etc.

My wife was reversing out of a tight car parking spot the other day and the system actually worked. Brakes slammed on avoiding running in to a Dad and two kids who thought that walking right behind a reversing car in a huge car park was a good idea. He gave us a filthy look, sorry but he should have been more aware and careful. My wife had lots of obstacles to consider. I would have given him a mouthful but I’m feeling a bit vulnerable at the moment. c**t.

Forgot Nottingham. Haven’t been there for a few years now.

Arena car park! People just wondering down the middle of the road in the car park! They turn around and look at you like they’ve got right of way! Mate, unless you wanna end up on my bonnet I suggest you use the walk ways provided!
