Was at the swindon game, annoyingly i had to sit in the home seats, but was a block away from the Cov fans.

It could be that i was close to you rowdy bunch, or that it was so concentrated, but the volume was huge, seemly louder than back at Ricoh, and i always find this is the case when i watch Cov away, Swindon didnt sing, or chant at all.

I think football fans on the whole and better away from home. Few more beers and a day out will always help make a better atmosphere.

The Rioh was designed for everyone to get a good view rather than to create an atmosphere. Any noise simply disappeared into the ether. For atmosphere you need something like the old west terrace with the low roof. Maybe in any future new stadium plans that can be taken into consideration. Of course pigs might also fly

That's not strictly true. Stadiums like the Ricoh can generate a great atmosphere when full as the sound carries round and can be heard through the ground. The west terrace was great to be a part of but because of the bad acoustics the sound didn't really travel. You could hardly ever hear the west terrace from the east stand.

The Nou Camp has a notoriously bad atmosphere.

Have you seen the plans to redevelop it? Look amazing. Not sure what it'll do for the atmosphere though.

I hadn't, but I have now. Maybe Monty is onto something. I'd like to change the tone of my previous reply from sarcastic to mildly serious.

Best atmosphere at the Ricoh IMO was the Wolves last minute penalty save back in 2009

Ebanks-Blake wasn’t it? Similar sort of reaction to Purse’s miss in 07. Both will live long in the memory.

Fans always make more noise away. 1. You are all together in a small area. 2. You are normally outnumbered so want to show as much support for the team as possible. 3. The home team are usually slight favourites and I think home fans can be a bit expectant and complacent.

Ricoh can be loud with only 11/12k if the corner blocks are fullish

Best Ricoh moment for me was that last minute winner against Preston. Can't remember when was but I landed about 8 rows down.

Edit: 10th January 2013

Just did a bit of research and it turns out the Beavon scored for Preston that night.

By far the funniest atmosphere I've witnessed at The Ricoh.

Yes, this game came to mind when reading the comment about the ricoh not being designed for noise. Crowd wasn't huge that evening (though fair support in the south stand) yet there was quite some noise when that 3rd goal went in.

Just to add and finish my previous post, but I've been following this nutcase of a club away for decades but at Cambridge was the best togetherness I'd felt in all that time.
I can't ever remember our away fans giving the team a standing ovation at the end of the game after we had lost.
We so deserved three points that day , the second half was the best I'd seen for years and the fans really appreciated the effort the team that day gave for the club.
I was with my son that day who supports Liverpool, but he saw how emotional I got at the end.
We will come good one day, we just need to stay patient and stick with our club.
If any clubs fans can do this it's our success starved fans

Depends how boring you are, and a sense of humor you have, which obviously you lack. Leicester fans joined in by the way..

To be fair that's a terrible song and pretty embarrassing, and not even funny. Nor does it even make sense...

Perhaps the atmosphere from the West Terrsce didn't deafen the whole of Highfield Road, but to say it couldn't be heard is pretty inaccurate. As someone who stood in the "singing area" of the East Stand for several years, the atmosphere in there was always kicked off by copying the songs coming out of the West Terrace.

Good shout. If you say that with a Leicester accent it does sound the same.
