To centre on Wasps rugby club !! Surely we can do more as a City than rely on some dodgy rugby franchise !? I would have thought attracting some top quality shopping chains and restaurants would be higher on the list ?

It says Wasps are 'one of the measures being considered'. They'd be stupid not to.

Hasn't Coventry already got Aldi and Lidl?

It's got a football club with great potential as well as (by all accounts) a decent little rugby club.

Still, Wasps look good though....

Funny how they it was mentioned that some top quality restaurants are coming to Coventry only last week.......

Didn't post that on this site I Suppose it doesn't support your argument though.

Quite a few things.

The council also wants to work closely with Birmingham Airport, create a Coventry and Warwickshire Tourism Awards and develop closer ties with tourism board VisitEngland.

Plans are also being explored to move Coventry Tourist Information Centre from the cathedral to St Mary’s Guildhall.

I wouldn't knock Primark have you seen their yearly results? They've got a massive store one hundred yards from Joys place right on Oxford Street

City going to Northampton had nothing to do with franchise sport and you know it.

Actually a lot of people speculated that, but there is no obvious place to relocate, unless it is possible to persuade the FL/FA to allow a team to move to Belfast or Dublin.

I thought a move towards Birmingham was a plausible scenario, but at the end of the day the terms will be dictated by the FL & FA.. I'm still waiting to hear where Timmys site is?

Yeah, rationally Coventry is the logical place to relocate to... if there's no team there. Only really Telford missing out (Wakefield doesn't count as it's a conglomerate) and not the same size as Coventry in the slightest.

That said, Dublin's always been the one with MK that was on the radar, and as talk grows of 39th games the attachment to place weakens and it maybe becomes more likely than when national boundaries were stopping it...

Not saying we will btw, but every chain that breaks loosens the hold a little.

Funny it is ok when it is American Football because it is the way they have been historically.
Coventry City were involved in Franchise football before anyone over here had even heard of it,

To defend themselves against a hedge fund once and for all it seems. What a shame they were pushed to something so drastic.

Like whoring themselves to another hedge fund with no proven track record of success.

Not one has been confirmed. Not one. No names. Just a suggestion of a few chains. Big Deal.

A bit like our new ground really from 3 to 2 but not one confirmed and how long have we waited?
This deal has just gone through still expect them to make announcements before we get that new ground or even half of the Ricoh they haven't still bid on?

So when you made this point before and were corrected, what was it, fingers in the ears? You need those hands free for stirring the shit.

Rather depressingly last night this came up in conversation at the pub we went to for a drink after work. They had the Snooker on the TV and someone asked where the tournament was taking place. "That's Wasps new home in Coventry......." comes the reply. Now admittedly this is the outskirts of London and there are likely to be more Wasps fans here, but it still depressed me

Do you remember the plans for the old fish market? The ones for the old Smithfield Arms? How about the Belgrade Plaza development being finished? What about the Post Sorting Office plans?

What happened?

I don't agree with franchising. Have always said that.
It is different. I'm not saying it's right, I'm saying that is the way it is over there.
You seem to detect a conflict, but there is none. I am against franchising, but have to accept that is the way of the game in the world of American Football.

You just plain ignore things and/or make up arguments nobody has said in order to create a viewpoint to argue against with a stroppy 'some people I can't name said this' nonsense.

How does centreing on WASPS help Coventry tourism and shops? It is on the outskirts of Foleshill next to a motorway network. There is no reason to come into the City Centre

No big retailer is interested in shops in the Centre because it has been abandoned - all this Council is interested in is the Coventry University but students tend to only like Primark, Wilkinsons and Wetherspoons

Warwick Uni students go to Kenilworth or Leamington

When Friargate is open and the Council move then you can close Broadgate because no one will pass Junction 6

The old car park at the Belgrade Plaza still being a load of nothing behind temporary construction boards is such a farce. Must be a few years it's been like that now too, that pub that faces it is almost being hidden from sight.
