It came with the backdrop of COVID, I don't think this is the horse to beat them with.

You can't make money from what they're trying to do, and the problem is trying to do that in the first place.

So what? They're running a city, you get some things right and some things wrong. Hindsight's a wonderful thing.

What you would hope is that they would have learnt that when something has run its course or not working end it don’t keep adding to the problems.

Are you generally not a fan of punctuation, or is it just on this occasion?

Just on this occasion.

I am glad you have worked very hard on your response though.

It feels pedantic, but I was really struggling to make out what you were saying.

Shock, reeves all over it. Trading when pretty much insolvent, tax payers money, people left owed money.

Sounds familiar...

It's really sad actually. I had a show already to go as part of the City of Culture. Theatre booked (Albany), cast ready, rehearsals in progress and then Covid hit.

The amount of money the city lost because of Covid was tremendous. They were counting on tens of thousands of people coming to the city for the the City of Culture event and no doubt they would have, but the pandemic and lockdown had a devastating effect and it really hit the city hard.

Yeah, sure, they had a delayed City of Culture start and it did go ahead in the end, but by then they had lost so much and so much damage was done and lots of events had been cancelled, never to reappear.

It was a great shame.

I really liked assembly gardens. Was hoping it would come back, safe to say that's not going to happen.

Agreed, COVID was an utter disaster for it. The government should have provided greater support given the difficulties. In fairness to the council in this case it's understandable why they felt it necessary to provide support.

Typical Cov, innit. Win the league for the first time in a v long time, can’t celebrate because of Covid. City of Culture which usually brings in a healthy amount of tourism, postponed because of Covid. The city is cursed.

Why does Reeves get so involved? He was the chairman, he was signing off the accounts while at the same time running the council.

Looks like the Assembly Rooms company is bang in trouble now.
