Floated corners are meat and drink to lower league centre halves. They need to be hit with pace. Also the starting position of our attackers is all wrong. They are static as the ball comes in. No one is ever at the back of the box where over 50% of corners end up. Someone should always peel of to the back of the box.
Interesting stats those, thanks. So how are WBA converting their corners? Is it fired in fast and converted by some centre half monster?Another interesting trend in the way sides take corners against a big West Brom side reverting to going short more often.
37 of West Brom's 103 corners faced have now been short (35.92%) - the league average of short corners faced (without WBA) is 12.62%. Interesting how having a tall side can influence an opponents approach when it comes to set-pieces.

We’ve only ever looked effective at set pieces when Tom Davies is on the pitch. We’ve only two or three players in the side who can offer much threat so were marked out the game to easily regardless of if we get the right delivery or set up right to be a threat to put the ball in direct.
I’d favour us to play short corners being a small side and hope we can play the ball in at a better angle as we’ve pulled two markers out the box generally hopefully offering more space.
I’d imagine we’re the worst in the league for scoring from corners with two I think from around 115 - 135 corners taken.
I did see a championship corner chart for each side mid December and compared ours and obviously and that put us down the bottom on that average as I calculated the number we had won and been effective from.
I’ll try and find it again and share it

Agreed. Despite both being really good defenders, Willis and Hyam struggle to pose a threat from setpieces. This said, I wouldn’t drop either for Davies, who is yet to score for us in 37 appearances.
We definitely lack physicality and that’s area we need to improve upon going forward if we’re to cope with the likes of Scunny, and pose a threat at setpieces. We’ve improved from last season, but to have only scored 2, maybe 3 league goals from setpieces is not good enough.
It’s a conundrum for Robins going forward into future transfer markets. Our only real aerial threat from corners is JCH, we nearly scored a corner in the last 2 games. Scunthorpe just put two men on him because the likes of Sterling, Thomas and Bayliss aren’t posing a real aerial threat.
I’m with you on that, I’d not be reinstating Davies on the hope of a better threat from a likely average of 5-6 corners a game. It’s something that needs looking at throughout the side if MR wants a more offensive side at set plays or to be more physically imposing players we often face.
Tom Davies for all the attacking threat he brings has yet to register a professional goal in his career I believe. He’s come close at Southend with the disallowed goal and had a helping hand in 2nd phases of corners knocking balls down or recycling play which we’ve benefited from.

I like Davies, he’s always been unlucky to have not made more starting appearances because Hyam and Willis are playing well at the minute.
Willis leaving may not be the end of the world because it may allow us sign some bigger centre halves to improve our physicality. I’d like Willis to stay, but it may present an opportunity. This summer, the only other areas I can think where we can add physicality is at right back and centre midfield at the moment — but that means displacing Bayliss or Kelly.
Was refreshing to see Westbrooke take them
We could have the best headers of the ball in the world but if the delivery and the routine is crap then you won’t score.
Robins and his coaching team don’t seem to have a handle on this. It’s not rocket science to drill a team with some set piece routines!

Most effective taker i have seen lately is Shipley who can fizz them in at head height and if anyone connects its a chance - as said above floaters are meat and drink for 2.5m back fours of which there seem to be 20 except ours - but Doyle seems to have taken over when he's playing
It's not just attacking set pieces, were absolutely dreadful at defending them too. Probably worse than I've ever seen us. We look likely to concede every corner or attacking free kick with half a decent delivery. I just don't understand itYesterday we had 13 corners. Yet I think we only made a clear cut chance from 1 or 2.
We had a couple of good chances when we whipped balls in. But we dint do this every time. we started off aimlessly trying to float balls in. We have been doing the same all season and even the last fews.
Once Doyle went off at one point know one knew who to take them. We really should have a set piece taker who can whip in decent corners.
Also to add when Doyle was on he was taking them on both sides. we really should have 2 people capable of taking them. So we can mix up in and out swingers.
Who ever is our set piece coach needs to go or come up with new ideas. We can't keep waisting set pieces.
Totally agree with everything you've said. We also need a long-throw specialist. Makes you wonder what they do in training!Yesterday we had 13 corners. Yet I think we only made a clear cut chance from 1 or 2.
