Amongest numerous failings on the pitch, one of covs biggest problems are corners. When was the last time we scored from a corner? Our corners are simply appalling. I go every week and watch and it proper annoys me when cov fans get excited when we are awarded a corner...WE DON'T SCORE CORNERS.

soccerstats hasn't got this stat so can anyone help? Home stats and away stats would be good

not sure but bakers deliveries on saturday were either too long or down the keepers throat

when sheff used to take them it was the failure to beat the first man

the short corner routine- usually means the 2 of them combining to lose the ball

i think if david bell was in the team, he has probably the best delivery of a ball

Flecks probably the best crosser at the club from open play an dead ball

Last time we scored a corner was probably Tranmere at home, Baker scored from the second ball of a corner the other week at Scunthorpe

It would be nice if a ball from a corner actually landed in the box. It's either too long or doesn't get over the first man.

For professional footballers it's truly pathetic. They should be there after training for 2 or 3 hours until they get it right and Prssley should enforce that until they manage to score from a corner. It could be a long wait !!

I wouldn't mind, but we seem to be shit at long ones and short ones!

Ok, we're just simply shite at corners!

I would say conceding from corners has been a bigger problem....

Sadly the communication is shocking. One minute they're long, the next they are short.
Why don't the big lads attack the ball. Never happens, and hasn't since Malaga against Sheff Utd.

Ingredients to scoring from a corner

1 - delivery as mentioned above sub standard
2 - height to attack the ball, Cody Jennings, Sheffers - are no threat its like the Anthill Mob v the land of the giants
3 - wood about the only player in squad who attacks the ball.

Our most successful period of scoring from corners has to be when big Dion nodded them in for fun (and second ball flck ons) from Gary McAllister's corner kicks methinks - saw many examples from Deano's film night last thursday !!!

Increasingly frustrating watching them all season work the ball up the pitch winning a corner and knowing before it's taken that we won't score and are more likely to concede from a potential counter attack from the opponent.

Set pieces have definitely been a lower priority this season than other seasons.

The Edge has been fairly good at attacking the ball through corners, well when a decent ball has been played in...

i hate the way we defend corners with everyone back which creates confusion and no outlet if you leave two up they will leave four back to mark.

Being Pro footballers, the likes of Baker, McSheff, Christie, and whoever is the attacking left wingback on the day, should hang their heads in shame. We haven't had a decent crosser of a ball since "Benno"(Houchens' diving header, Say no more) It's not that hard to hit a ball from the wing to the penalty spot.
(A dead ball, or moving) Forwards should be moving in from the edge of the box to meet the ball around the "Spot"....2 reasons...The keeper will think twice about coming out that far to catch/punch...and forwards will have the advantage of the run, and jump, to head the ball.
The one thing however, that worries me more is the alarming amount of corners we give away. Some of our defenders can only head/kick the way they are facing. Let's hope Pressley can show them how to "Clear a ball" into row "Z" for a throw in not a corner.

Read stats previously and the figures for all clubs are much less syccessful than you would think. At the time the stats showed you were more likely as a team to concede a goal when taking a corner than to score one and the percentages are in the low single figures

I think corners in general are pretty sub standard from any club.

Too much holding/shoving going on, and the fact defenders are probably reading games a little better than they use too.

That doesn't make sense. For a team to concede from a corner another team has to score from one, making it statistically (highly) improbable that all clubs will have have a poor conversion rate.

5% is the average so teams score from 1 in 20 on average

Champions league stats 1 goal every 46 corners in 11-12. Just over 2%. The fact is we shouldn't get excited!!

Its become a joke between me and my mates about corners. We are absolutely shocking at corners yet we win so many. Really ought to let the opposition just have a goal kick instead. Massive training ground work required on this set piece.

What about our Throw Ins they are doen right shamefull, we must be the only team in the league(s) where a throw in to us is a disadvantage! John Hughes was shouting to his Hartlepool players to kick it out and regroup because as we will win it back easily

I would expect that with some of the best defenders in the world, we are talking about the LUMPS that masqerade as defenders in this rubbish league we are in

Great posts lads.

When we first played Crewe in the JPT, roughly 4 or 5 games later I'm sure the corner count hit 50 ish without reply. We have not scored from a direct corner since that Crewe game and probably games before that.

Corner stats are bad for all teams by the looks of things but to never even attack it or get even a remote sniff in scoring is so disappointing.
