Would you accept it if the club said transfer funds will be limited this summer but they get Vik, Gus, O’Hare and Sheaf to sign extensions, and beyond that it’s loans and frees paid for by departures?

How much is it better the devil you know? Plus we have a lot of deadwood off the books this summer so should have £60k+/week to bring in 3 or 4 decent Championship players.

Possible squad:

GK/Wilson
RWB/Burroughs
LWB/Bidwell
CB/Rose
Fadz/CB
CB
Hamer/Eccles
Sheaf/Howley
Allen/O’Hare/Palmer
Vik/Godden/ST/Tavares

That’s 3 loans and 4 signings on say £15k/week. Sell/Release Moore. Still a light squad and CM especially so, but with the right signings and a bit of luck on injuries I’d back it to be top six. The wrong luck and midtable of course.

Would you swap a summer splurge for keeping the gang together another year?

Would be happy with that but would want a new striker in with Godden being an impact sub - I’d also release Tavares.

Yep, Gyokeres will rightly be looking at premier league wages plus a release clause, he won't wanna stay forever but I'd love another year out of him! In my opinion can't replace Hamer or Gyokeres, we won't get that lucky again surely. All depends on Doug's wallet because we need about 8 to 10 signings with players leaving on frees and loanees, so it's a lot to ask financially this summer, hopefully he was well aware of this and is capable of giving us the financial clout we need to get promoted

Hamer, Sheaf, O'Hare and Gyokeres all having 1 year left is stressing me the fuck out.

Hasn’t Robins mentioned that we’re looking more at an increase in the wage budget rather than substantial transfer fees?

It would be great to keep our best players but what you suggest is hardly progress is it? If Doug is serious about being in the play-offs every year he will have to do more than that.

The wage budget has to go up probably significantly, not sure about transfer fees but with the loans going back we need almost a whole backline, a strike partner for Vik another midfielder and a goalkeeper and a number of players need contract extensions and that’s if no one major leaves there’s going to be a lot of good players out of contract available.
Lot of hard work to be done and that’s if we stay in the championship

Seems to be a few people who think Gyok might/has already signed a new deal.

Taking off my sky blue tinted glasses, I can’t understand why he would do that. What’s the logic?

I'd rip your arm off for that provided we can either get Doyle/McNally/Panzo/ the wingbacks back on loan or find equivalent players.

Would be nice to bolster the squad depth but would be pretty happy heading into next season with our first XI intact.

More money and a sensible release clause.

Its going to be a tough ask to extend and improve those 4 and be able to add to the squad with permanent signings. I can however see 8 or 9 players going that will help, but i cant see it all falling into place.

Maybe 1 of the 4 has to go for a fee and 2 or 3 quality free agents brought in along with 5 loans. It would be a shame to lose any of them but think its too much of a stretch to keep 4 and add enough quality depth to the squad.

I suppose we can hope players want to stay and finish what they started. Or next years ST sales go through the roof a TV deal and other deals create a substantial increase in income. But whichever way lots of moving parts and things going on this summer and beyond for sure. Just hope its all falls into place and we become what MR staff and owner say they want us to be.

I know it's a hard one for you to get, but venturing an opinion or starting a conversation that's to do with CCFC is the reason the board exists.

Dare you to try it. Doubt you have a thought of your own you'd have the bottle to share but feel free to prove me wrong. You can't copy Grendel, though.

I would like to keep the gang together but also think a big dose of realism is needed about the extent of changes likely this summer - it feels highly unlikely that all out of contract players will be released. I think Dabo and Rose will get a new deal and possibly even Walker if he's willing to sign one.

Signing a new contract doesn't mean he'll stay. It puts him on more wages and us in a better position to negotiate higher fees. And as Boosh says, should he get injured before his big move he's on better terms with us.

When you look at it like that, it seems the logical thing to do for all parties, doesn't it?

It's not about the numbers, it's about the Quality of the players we need to sign, had enough of mediocre players we've signed over the years.

It will be 3 after the Stoke game Maybe I should also try to stop constantly thinking about a team I can't go and watch every week. Maybe we should have a table on here that lists who's opinions are valid so we can filter out, or Nick can just delete, all the unworthy ones.

Although if someone wants to put him on 40k+, that's hard to turn down even if you love it.

Agree, but then they have to pay a fee that complements a £40k a week.

Keep the star players we have as we know their strengths and weaknesses. Whichever approach we take its clear there will need to be alot of players brought in and we are going to need a fair bit of fortune that the majority pay off. Feels very difficult to predict given the number of players involved and the fact we've got a new recuitment team in place now.

I still think there is some wheeling and dealing to be done with some of our deadwood players. We need to move some of them on, or give a chance for younger players to take their place. What's the point in retaining players like Dabo and Walker, who have proved they aren't up to it? Absolutely yes in trying to keep our better players, but as good as some of them are, if you have players that can't even run on the pitch at the same time then you are limiting yourself. You don't need to break the budget when trying to tackle this either.

To progress you need continuity. But if none of the best players(regulars this season leave) we do need two centre backs and probably two wing backs.
