[Hypothetically] Which former manager or managers of CCFC would you like to see return ? Has to be George N' John for me .

Surely this thread can't cause a row - can it ?

I missed it so didn't hear the context.

It's hard to say, yes for their passion and their name but I'd bet the game has changed a lot since then.

Can't really think of many from my time I'd be begging to come back

Fair play again on the good thread

The game hasn't changed that much, it's an easy get out for the Sky generation.

George and John put together a team that was defensively sound, hardworking but with the guile and flair to get a goal.
Most importantly, they instilled in the players belief and a great will to win. The ability to do that is massive and better than analysing ball retention or other stats that seems to be seen as something great in modern managers.

Off the ones who could realistically return, in no particular order Dowie, Black and Robins.

That's the thing, on the passion side of it, the man management, making players believe then yes.

Could they still have as much of an impact now? Id probably prefer them over the likes of pressley and dowie.

I'm not as lucky in that I can't remember them

Dowie is a god shout.

Black could perhaps be the obvious choice but his stint was too short lived to be counted imo

None of them, if Venus doesn't prove to be the man, get someone new in.

Forgot about Nilsson. He'd be worth considering. Hasn't he had a promotion or two as a manager since leaving us? Could be just what we need.

Did wonder about him.

Can't think of many modern managers who have gone on to do much after us, coleman for Wales maybe but does that count?

He actually went on to do a lot better than I remembered. Strange sacking from Copenhagen though.

What's he doing now?

Not many, probably only Nilsson or Robins. I'd have had Black back but he's not showed any desire to manage, surprised a few have mentioned Dowie - I wouldn't have him back, thr cup performances gloss over the fact his league record was no better than Coleman's.

Dowie didn't have the money Coleman had though. You could argue that the cup performances showed what potential Dowie had but because of a lack of backing never got the opportunity to prove it over a league campaign.

If he retires in about 6 months, this job should be just the ticket for him.

off the top of my head

Coleman - international manager
Strachan - Prem and international manager
Black - coach and caretaker manager at prem level
Boothroyd - International u21 manger for England at the mo
Nilsson - won league with Malmo and now Sweeden Under 17 manager
