I've been there twice to watch my son box in charity events. A mass brawl broke out between rival travellers. That bad it got stopped and cancelled today too. Doesn't look good for our City Of Culture status does it ?

There's been trouble between travellers at similar events in the Midlands

Wonder if it's the same families involved?

Only thing is that other sporting events in our City could be affected by this. Just think the young boxers trained hard for this, but now it's cancelled and it was a 3 day event.

You're right B. Shame for the young lads who've worked hard leading up to the event. If it's happening frequently I wonder if they can ban the people responsible from attending?
I went to an event my mate put on and there was a gypsy lad from his gym involved in one of the bouts.
Just before the gypsy lads bout some lad stood next to me turned to his mate and said "there's a gyppo fighting next" only he said it too loud and all the gypsies heard him.
They gave him daggers but that's as far as it went. Couldn't believe it didn't kick off.

Many travellers I've come across have been pretty decent. Tyson Fury is one and comes from a large travelling family. Then again as with all large families it's a case of one in all in if it kicks off .But just think about all the preparation and training put in for an international event like that. I bet the mention of Coventry in the future will be met with " I think we'll give Coventry a miss ! "

Why would rival traveller families brawling at a national event reflect badly on Coventry? Nobody will pin this on the venue or location.

Well...

I'd like to think I'm liberal lefty and all that, but the traveller camp just down the road from the connexion has a pretty ropey reputation (some of the people in it aren't impressed with some of the antics tbf) - they did for the Bull and Butcher pub by popping round with machetes etc.

So it might well be extra communities(!) but there is a local issue.

It usually does kick off at things like this. I have been to one and it kicked off there as well.

Tension and testosterone high.

Not the first time there's been violence at Connexion is it?

Last minute shows spades, hammers and an axe.

Two Gypsy families by the looks of it.

No respect. Why not just have a scrap in the car park?

Brents (Brent Parkers) and Dohertys been going for ages. Dohertys around the Northampton area.
Looks like they just emptied the vans of tools.

Had a season running pea picking many years ago which was popular with the travellers back then as it was a cash crop.
First few days quiet then one day had van loads turning up from Doncaster, Gloucester, Cheltenham and Lincoln. Just emptied the vans and went at each other with all sorts of weapons. Just had to sit and watch until basically they finished it themselves.

Because they couldn’t get over a 4ft fence for the best part of 5 minutes so hardly going to have a straightener in the car park.

Last time I was there, there were security all over the place. But maybe because the trouble kicked off in the afternoon it escalated as usually they're in pretty sharpish ?

When you said you worked in Offenham for the Johnsons, did you mean the infamous Johnson traveller family in Cleeve Prior? There are loads of traveller sites round here, but it's only the Johnsons who cause all the trouble!

With them, not for them
Never had any trouble with them but they were a handful for many.
Some of the "youngsters" i knew ended up going down for those big country house robberies about 10 years ago
People forget that before the East Europeans came along and the supermarkets took over travellers used to do a lot of the veg harvesting. Had a spell at Bomfords who used to use a lot of traveller labour years back.

Some had weapons it said. When I was there a couple of months ago we all got a thorough search going in, and a woman security guard was even checking we had ties on.
