Annoys me as well to be fair. And also creates a lot of male responses. But let’s not pretend it wasn’t started by blokes essentially belittling women’s football.
Women will bite back. Rightly so.
And that’s where we are now.

Yep it was for sure.

Given that the England men have appeared in a grand total of two finals in nearly 60 years and won neither, for the women to win back to back Euros is a superb achievement and it's more than a bit churlish to deny it.

Would be nice to just see simple congratulations without the need to go 'yeah but' afterwards.

Congratulations to the women's English football. They've worked hard all their lives for this.

But sorry it just isn't for me. Can't ever see myself going to their games. Only just found out that they won. Still don't know the score. I'm CCFC 100%. England's men's football holds a big interest. Enjoy England cricket which can be a good day on the piss on a sunny day. Still play cricket for my local side. Otherwise everything else is just a passing interest.

Incredible stuff. What brilliant inspirations to the young girls of the country. Nice to have an England team that doesn’t constantly disappoint.

That's the difference for me. The game is different to the men's, but the spirit of the women's side was something to behold. Never ever gave up, even when playing badly

Exactly. I find the criticisms so boring. They battled all game against a technically superior team and ground out a win when so many had written them off.

How can anyone not be proud of that?

To be fair the men's teams were very fine margins away from the same achievement.

Grassroots changes have clearly worked very well. Don't forget the u21 back to back too

Proud is a massive word. Very happy for them but have never been to a women's game and most probably never will. Just like when England ever wins anything. Happy to see us win something but it isn't a life changer for me. Us getting into the playoffs or even better is much more important to me than the women winning tonight and I won't pretend otherwise.

I haven't heard anyone sensible comparing it unfavourably to the men's game. Just like nobody in their right mind would belittle the female athletes in the Olympics because they aren't as quick as the men.

The Euros tournament that England have just won was fantastic competitive sport.

Everybody will be waxing legs,I mean, lyrical over the women winning the trophy for a week blah blah blah - until the proper footy starts & this'll soon get forgotten
I think some people have got invested in it because there's no other footy on - I didn't watch any of it because of the standard plus the commentators constantly lavishing praise on everything that's blatantly poor in the matches in their patronising way
Terrible stuff

We have both sides of the argument. I was just replying to someone who said I should be proud. Like I said although no interest in women's football very happy for them but proud a bit too far for me.

Why not pick on those who think less of the win than myself?

Fantastic result. Some of those lasses have some real guts and pride. Fair play to them. Women’s sports have all come on no end in the last 20 years.

Enjoyed it and pleased they won.

I think I'd be more invested though if some Cov connection either by birth or playing for Cov Ladies or something. Even now I find myself as interested in what Jodi Jones did for Malta or Vik for Sweden as I do the England team, who I watched more closely when Wilson or Madders have played.

Just got home from the match, nowhere suitable to hang my Cov flag unfortunately. Don’t know why anyone would want to compare the football with a men’s game. I’ve been to the last four EURO finals, two men’s and two women’s, and it was brilliant taking my 14yo daughter tonight - she thought it was fantastic and we will have memories to treasure.

Anyway, congratulations to the Lionesses. Loved every second of it and the pure emotion at the end.

Watched it with my 7 year old daughter who told me at the end when they won, 'I can do that'. A great moment for England and inspiring for another generation of girls.
