Errr - I am confused - are we in the market for more loan signings or not - Two News stories today from CET & BBC CW seem to contradict each other - Err I think!

Chris Anderson says CCFC will NOT be signing any more loan players:

Managing director Chris Anderson says it is "highly unlikely" that Coventry City will sign any more players on loan after adding more than their full complement at the Ricoh Arena.Rules state that clubs can have only five loan players in a match-day squad, and Tony Mowbray's side now have six following a busy transfer deadline day."I think it's highly unlikely we'll bring in more loans," said Anderson.

Tony Mowbray however says:
The Sky Blues boss has targeted more hot striking talent from the Premier League and intends to draft in two more to his squad when the emergency loan window opens on Tuesday.
“I have had one or two conversations and I would be pretty hopeful that we’ll have one or two more additions in the next few weeks when the (Loan) window opens again,” confirmed Mowbray, who is also looking at the possibility of free agents who might be available.

TM must be very frustrated at the minute, seems like Anderson is planning the squad and TM is being asked to cope with what is going to happen. Im not sure this is what TM signed up for and can't see him lasting if he has no control of the squad. Anderson is very quickly turning into Ken and Waggot combined, think the power has gone to his head a little and would do well just saying nothing and hanging around in the back ground, instead of pretending he knows how to build and generate a squad to compete.

IMO having Mowbray and Venus in control of all things football related has been a big plus this year and has let to success. It seems odd, hopefully just coincidental, that within a few days of Anderson turning up things started going downhill and now he seems to be getting involved in the football side and directly contradicting what Mowbray is saying.

Anderson's comments don't rule out the possible signing of free agents, and the Mowbray article states that TM is looking in to signing free agents.

Which loans expire soon? Errmm none I think.. Kent, Turner gone.

Maddison - end of season
Cargill - end of season
Stephens - end of season
Bigirimana - end of season
Armstrong - end of season
Murphy - end of season

There's no limit on the number on loan players you can have at any one time in the Football League but maximum 5 on any team sheet.

Cole, Hunt, Rose, Lorenzen - not loans

Aren't loan wages usually subsidized or fully paid by the parent club? If that's the case, loans are cheaper than players under contract....and therefore easier to justify leaving out of the squad. I imagine, the only issue would be, if there are playing time clauses, juggling enough playing time for each loanee.

There's a danger that we try to read too much into press comments, but TM's (reported) remarks seem to suggest that his main interest is/was in loans.

He also was quoted about it causing problems with having to leave players out as we are at the limit which would indicate he was talking about loans.

Realistically we're looking for a goalscorer. I can't imagine there's many good strikers sat around unable to find a club.

Agree Samo - I think we will end up signing another loan player - dont think too many free agents knocking around the Premier League and TM directly alludes to picking up PL players - still confused though!

In these circumstances it's very unlikely the parent club would be impressed
if their player were not even making the match day squad.
Whoever they loan them to,the main objective is for them to get game time.

Like I said: If it is the case, honoring the parent club's specified playing time would probably be the only issue ..

Seems a mess up that the Maddison money which could be used to buy players was too late to use.

So in this 2 year project what players do we take forward to next year ? :thinking about:

If you have more than five loanees that may be a good thing because they know only five can play so that should give them an incentive to play well and get chosen. If there are only five and they all know they are in the squad, where is the incentive?

Thats part of it yes.
By getting promotion theres a significant financial windfall too. Meaning wage budgets increase, more money can be spent on a few key players (hopefully) and better loanees come in also.

Only well established premier league clubs tend to operate without loanees at all, so there will always be an element of that in the team.

It's not a big deal. The fact is even if we owned all our players we'd probably have to rebuild to stay up anyway. With loans you get better quality and less ongoing cost if players can't make the step-up.

Yep, and as I have pointed out before, it means we will not have a bunch of contracted L1 players who won't hack it and we can't get rid of.

Totally agree if eyes are still on promotion. A group of league one players on long term contracts will require substantial compensation to leave .

The market. Is awash with players looking for contracts. Short term deals are the way of league 1 and 2.

Championship and you may need a longer term team building strategy...but then the life expectancy of managers at 18 months perhaps not?
