Yes it's irrelevant how much time we spent in the top six, however given that we spent one third of the season in the bottom half of the table not turning our season on until O'Hare came back isn't good enough. Not sure what is difficult to understand about that.

What’s hard to understand is you saying our first Championship play off season since relegation from the Prem isn’t good enough.

I remember him well, started off ok, but went down the drain pretty quickly. Talks a good game though. Some reaction :

Lampard appointed head coach of Coventry

Frank Lampard has been appointed head coach of Championship club Coventry City on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

Some of us remember Division 1 , some of us remember 87, some of us remember watching a City team take apart the elite ( not consistently ).

I’d take beating united with Huckerbys goal over beating Exeter but each to their own.

Everton have burned through a lot of good managers ….. Marco Silva, Martinez, Benitez, Koemen, etc etc ….. maybe the problem isn’t the manager ????

There aren't enough days in the week to detail our problems. Saying that, Benitez and Koeman were truly abysmal picks by Moshiri.

Interesting you have to log in ti view any of the posts on the everton message board. I wonder if that helps reduce the risk of litigation if someone writes something potentially liable as less people get to read the post. Nick might be worth considering

Say what you want about Doug King, it is clear he is a very very intelligent man. If it’s true he really isn’t interested in football, it has to be said he has well and truly thrown himself into this project, talks a good game and his hands on.

Agree.

So why are some people calling Doug King a c**t

Because some just love to paint a villain into the piece. Makes for a better storyline.

Also, I wonder if those same people could cope with having to make the big calls that change an organisations direction of travel - and think we can all agree (timeframes aside here), that our direction was going the wrong way for a while and especially after upgrading the squad.

I think you will find the history books will say we lost, else why no promotion or FA Cup final?

People shouldn't rubbish Robins achievements, but equally they shouldn’t be overstated.

Now the blue training kit makes sense. it was all part of the big plan from the summer to keep Frank in the colour he's used to

Hardly an insight is it. Most managers don’t last 2 years.

Fans want attractive football and success, owners are frightened of the economic costs of failure.

I wasn't claiming it was an insight, personally I see it as a significant negative.

How long until those cheering on this latest appointment are on here baying for his head?

We lost.

”In the semi-final match, also held at Wembley, United defeated Coventry City 4–2 on penalties after a 3–3 draw, during which they squandered a 3–0 lead, to set up a Manchester derby final for a second successive season. Dalot, Christian Eriksen, Fernandes and Højlund all scored their penalties with only Casemiro missing for United; Haji Wright – who scored Coventry's third goal – and Victor Torp scored for Coventry with Callum O'Hare – scorer of Coventry's second goal – and Ben Sheafmissing for Coventry.”

It was tough and very sad - and had Haji been an inch further back we would have won. But he wasn’t and we didn’t. Them’s the rules.

Are you always this black and white? Performance, comeback, getting to that stage against a top level side but you discount all this because we drew (using your own quoted text) therefore we must be overstating the achievement.

Pretty much yes. You seemed to have missed the bit in bold which reads “defeated”. And obviously a draw isn’t a win.

The rules are pretty black and white, league 3 points for a win. Cup, progress to the next round if you win. We didn’t get to the final, ergo we didn’t win. What constitutes a win in a cup semi final is also in black and white.

The comeback was fantastic, the emotion before VAR intervened almost unparalleled. Ultimately it was a defeat, though. Despite the brilliance of the comeback, not quite good enough. If Simms shot which hit the bar had been two inches lower, or if Dabo hadn't been taking penalty coaching sessions, the outcome could have been different.

Given the choice, I would rather our most recent Wembley visit had been another playoff final. But a winning appearance, obviously.

Couldn't agree more. Brought up on top flight football. Sounds good until you consider it was a relegation battle most seasons. A defeat by a single goal was a good result quite often. A draw felt like a win. A win was party time.

I remember after getting relegated from the Prem. Looked forward to start winning games. That went well....

At least when we got relegated from the Championship we knew we'd go straight back up. So frustrating when we couldn't even compete with small towns I didn't know where they were. Then the unimaginable happened. A relegation battle where the losers went to League 2. We couldn't even avoid relegation to League 2. But at least we signed Robins. Went to Wembley and won. A bitter sweet moment but we won something. The next season we were back at Wembley to confirm promotion with another win.

Then we kept doing better than the year before. Then we became League 1¹ champions although on the downside we couldn't watch it. We then cemented our place in the Championship. Do I need to mention more trips to Wembley and the heartbreak that came with them?

Yes the target is promotion to the Prem. But the Prem is crap unless you can establish yourself. And even then it isn't that good.

Not sure where @AFCCOVENTRY got the Shay Given rumour from but I don’t think he’s coached at all since 2020.

He wasn’t part of Lampards back room team at Chelsea or Everton.

Doesn’t mean it’s not true but

Okay simple question then.

22/23 and 23/24 rank 1 - 10, 1 being dreadful and 10 being A* season.
22/23 = 10 obviously
23/24 = 10 obviously
These are the two absolute benchmark seasons. Nothing else in my life has come close. If anything 22/23 slightly lower. I never really believed that we were going up; the fact we somehow found ourself in the playoff final was kinda bizarre. 23/24 not only did we nearly make the final of a major trophy but we also re-established ourselves as a competitive force in the championship having lost all our best players. If Frank even gets close to emulating 23/24 he will have done us proud!
