Colombia were dirty and aggressive last night and were in England's faces from the start, but I think the reason behind that was more than just football related. Remember that Colombian player who got murdered by Colombian gangsters/drug lords as he was seen as responsible for their World Cup defeat ? Maybe they were hyped up etc thinking they too could be killed if they didn't win ? I hear already one of their players has had death threats.

Said to my missus last night that, that would be what would happen.

At times last night that just wasn't football.

To them it was probably life or death ? I've read how ruthless the crime bosses are in their country, they carry out threats. Life is nothing to them they wipe people out daily without any remorse.

Unsurprisingly, the Colombians didn't think too much of the ref.

I think they were just dirty bastards to be honest. They're not the only team to be up to the same tricks.

Ines Maria probably has a point about the referee hating them though, I would too if half the team screamed in my face about every decision. Enjoy the flight home dickheads.

Did they cut to James Rodriguez crying when they lost?

He's definitely going to be targeted. No doubt about it.

He should be worried as they carry out threats. The drugs cartel probably have lost a lot of money on the team. I lost 4 quid in the bookies, and I told them working in there " I know where you live ! "

The ref wasn't the best ...... but that does not excuse the behaviour of the Columbian players, right from the start. They set out with a game plan to disrupt the game as much as possible, then they blame the referee when they get found out . Unfortunately it was one of those times where the referee should have and needed to have taken strong action from the very start. It would probably have resulted in at least one sending off but it would have rid the match of some of the disgraceful behaviour. You cannot repeatedly surround the ref like that and be allowed to get away with it. He didn't seem to get much help from the other officials though

England players were not innocent, one or two were a little foolish, but I feel it was more a question of the other side are getting away with it why not us. Must be very hard in a pressure situation to stand up to and remain calm under such conditions

Columbia have talent, they chose not to exploit it and to go in a negative poor direction. For much of the match they looked a distinctly average team. Only got themselves to blame, it is not the referees fault they are out.

Things like that are often when the ref loses control, you see it all the time where one bad tackle goes in and they get away with it. The opposition retaliate and get away with it and it builds and builds until it flares up.

If the ref would have stopped it first time and set the tone with a booking the 2nd, 3rd and 4th bad tackles would probably never happen.

I read somewhere that Southgate said that they were having to try and play to the rules of the rest of the world.

Ref only has himself to blame.......you can't go around drawing massive white lines in front of a bunch of rich columbians and not expect a reaction

It's COLOMBIA not COLUMBIA. At least give them the respect of spelling the name of their country correctly.

I think they lost all respect the other night.

Therefore, screw Columbia.

I am also never going to watch any of their movies again.

The two players who missed the penalties received death threats, pretty soon after the anniversary of the Escobar murder. What a toxic atmosphere for the players.

However, it didn’t stop me making the distasteful joke that the Colombians were ‘literally playing to save their lives’.

I’m sure any Colombians reading this forum won’t lose any sleep over it so don’t worry. With regards to Kev’s original post, Maradona said they were cheated. That’s all you need to know mate!
