Adebayor-esque celebration? If it was me and I was getting called a wanker on arrival to the game and getting abuse I would gain your respect back, even though you wouldnt deserve it and after I scored I would shake my head to say no celebration and nod to the Cov fans to say sorry. Then this thread would be called "fair play Collins"

Released by the club he supported as a boy, abused when he comes on after being dropped, hmm what would you do, sit and sulk about the pitch and hope somebody takes pity and gives me a clap at the end of the game, not me, I would want to show them what they are missing and would go all out to score.

I guess we let him go as we were a championship side and only wanted that quality...

Jeees hes a footballer who has not had much time on the pitch who then comes on and scores for his team. I dont care who he supported as a boy or even now he plays for a team and puts on the shirt to do his best.

He scored and had some fun when he celebrated good for him. :claping hands:

He never got abused at all! He came on and there were a few boo's being thrown about. What he done after that was a joke! 'IF' he is a coventry fan like myself and I scored a goal past the sky blues then I for one would NOT celebrate as if I just won the lottery shouting "COME ONNNN"

Having said I didnt agree with his celebration it did stir things up amongst our fans which made it a tense and fury finish which I enjoyed.

Ps Robbie Keane didnt support Coventry and when he scored past us he had the respect not to throw it in our face... Although he played for the villa he still has my full respect!

I think that the attitude of players and fans are by their very definition going to be different. As fans we are always going to be loyal to OUR CLUB. A footballer rarely these days has that loyalty , most go from club to club plying their trade. Perhaps those with a little class or experience wouldn't have celebrated , but I say let's see it for what it is, a young player scoring a goal and celebrating, nothing more nothing less.

Who's to say scoring against your team doesn't feel as good as scoring for your team....It's a sort of I'm good enough moment either way.

Of course. He plays for Swindon and he scored for Swindon. He wants to show his passion to his fans. Nothing wrong with his celebration IMHO.

It's the way he celebrated. Fair enough in front of his own fans but not coming over to us and celebrating like he's won the cup. Wrong move. If you were there you'd feel differently

cut the crap, he scored, end of;
if we'd been more astute/aware/savvy we'd have signed him,
aim your fury at the likes of Wisher & Faggott,
they do it all to suit their own purpose, not yours, not ours,
but THEIRS

It was probably a great moment for him, scoring against the club who released him as a youth player.

It also makes me wonder if he was actually interested in coming here this summer.

Are you saying we should be annoyed we didn't sign him? I'm relieved. He's scored 2 so far this season.

Feck me does it matter how he fecking celebrated?? It was a decent finish to cap a great comeback for Swindon, add to that the pressure he's been under due to only scoring 1 league goal is season I'm not surprised he celebrated. FFS get a grip

Exactly, only reason we're annoyed is the fact we threw away a game we was incontrol of, and he happened to be the player to make it a draw. Nothing more. He went a bit over the top to be honest but i say this...

is it any different to what Macca done last season when he scored that pen at home against leeds last season? ran over them, kissed his hand and waved at them? NO!! and we didnt say "Macca shouldnt have done that really" we lauded it and thought it was great

Only thing is Collins has been dicked around by Cov in the past and present and he was over-joyed to get on the score sheet and a "Fuck YEAH!" against the club thats messed him around, 2 goals in 12 games?

Im glad hes at Swindon. No more dead wood please!

grendel,
i'm saying none of that,
i'm saying F & W have their own agenda,
which includes CCFC as long as it suits their purpose,
which part of that do you have a problem with ?

Correct, which is what i thought. But he played for them and i remember reading a quote from him at the time saying "He'd always watched Leeds as a kid" and "They were a massive club in their day"

You're right he wasnt a Leeds fan, but he still wanted to play for the club he had watched as a kid

I listened to the post match reaction on local radio afterwards as I normally do after an away game and to be honest when he was interviewed he was pretty gracious, said he got carried away in the moment and said he does still support us but was getting a bit of abuse that he didn't really understand..

There was another interview with Di Canio which was the strangest interview I have ever heard.. He didn't stop talking for a full 10 minutes, I'm pretty sure he didn't even breathe! He won't be there long, I can safely say that much.

Swindon fans were deluded though.. Apparantly they were in total control of the game and could have easily won it..

He didn’t get any abuse before the goal.
Anyone sticking up for him obviously weren’t there. I like many others in that ground thought what he did really took the piss. I Wouldn’t mind but we thought he’d have a t-shirt underneath about Dec but nothing.

To be fair to the lad if he was getting abuse its completly understandable to celebrate. Even if he did he can still celebrate, im sure he would like to play for Coventry but plays for Swindon and if he didnt celbrate his goal surely the fans he plays for week in week out would have sumin to say about that. If he was a legend at Cov im sure he would not celbrate but he is a fan and Swindon pay his wages. Mountains out of Molhills. How would we react if any of our players didnt celebrate against a club they supported. Be differnt if he played there but not like Collins owes Coventry? Or am i as usual missing something?

How many times does it need to be said, he didn't get any abuse before the goal. After plenty but not before his over zealous celebration.

I didn't hear any abuse towards him at all. I don't see why he couldn't have run towards his own fans.

As an aside it was a good day out, didn't see any trouble but received a text saying there had been some. Arrived at the station around 10 to 6, basically no one around, so whatever happened there it must have been fairly early.

Must admit I thought it was a very obnoxious celebration that was completely unnecessary, especially from a so called City supporter. I don't think any of us would have an issue if he'd celebrated like that in front of his own fans, but deliberately charging towards our fans, taking his shirt off and diving on his knees in front of us as if to say "F*** you" was a bit classless. As someone already mentioned, if you weren't there you can't appreciate how inflammatory it was. I admit it probably seemed worse in the heat of the moment as we were all frustrated at having thrown away a 2 goal lead.

I know he's claimed he did it because of the abuse he received when he came on, but the "abuse" he received was very, very minor, and tongue in cheek I thought - a bit of booing from a minority and a few "it could have been you" chants. The only real abuse he received was after his celebration, as he'd managed to antagonise the entire City support by then!

100% bang on the money. Nobody would have been bothered if he celebrated like he did in front of his own but running over to us like he did was very silly.

fair enough, if he didnt recieve abuse he should turn and celbrate in front of his own fans but still dont see problem with him celabrating.

I think it is mainly because we have heard / read that he is a big city fan and then does that. I think if he wasn't coming out saying he is a city fan nobody would be that bothered to be fair.

This is the key point to me, celebrate all you want but no need to race over and do it in front of our supporters. That sort of behaviour could get him in trouble for inciting the crowd. He also made another gesture towards our end just before the game kicked off again as his name was read out over the PA.
