They are voting on three options, one of which is to scrap the competition.
The likely outcome is that it will revert to 48 clubs, so really shit misleading headline
You should get a job with the CET.

I think there is a chance it will continue in some format but without the player restrictions on what team you have to put out. At the end of the day we made £600k out of it, no matter what you think of the competition that's a lot of money for any club in L1 or L2.

Get rid of the U21s is the best option there. If they scrap it now we can remain current holders forever!

I doubt it will be scrapped altogether as surely every team would love their day in the sun at Wembley.

No chance of it being scrapped after the success of our final
All the papers carried big features on it with various angles covered including how it was the 4th biggest attendance in Europe that weekend
Although the early rounds can be seen as a chore every club in Divisions 1 and 2 would love to get to a Wembley final

I liked the old format when it was league one and two only. Bring that back and carry on

Are you sure? Maybe they're just going to restructure the Competition!

The one competition we get good at and it's gonna change again!!

Seriously though it should never have changed from the old JPT set up. Change the name. Change the sponsor. Just don't change what was involved!

Was always going to be madness letting under 21 / 23 teams (which ever suited) enter but then they had to work on a different set of rules and regulations to first teams!

they interviewed the head of the EFL after our final, and they were praying that none of the u21 teams reached the final, and were relieved when we beat Swansea
if thats the case - why let them in in the first place - defies belief

I think every team except ours should be limited to under 23 that's at least 2 more finals for us

I thought it was going to be SISU scrapping the trophy thinking it was made of gold.

If it gets scrapped does that mean we'll be the sole winners of the entire competition ever? Pretty cool!

Well now we've won it it's obviously completely bloody worthless. This happened to us in the Anglo-Scottish cup too (Anglo-Scottish Cup - Wikipedia), where we played St Mirren at home and then everyone lost the will to live, thus gifting the trophy to Chesterfield in perpetiuty.

I presume Tim is melting down the Checkatrade Trophy into ingots even as we speak.

Should be a competition just for division one and two, that's what it was set up for, could have a stipulations regarding playing so many homegrown talent but our day at Wembley the other day was there for all to see 74500 turned up why deny that chance for a Yeovil or Accrington to enjoy a similar day. As for these under 21 teams from the Premiership you'd be lucky if 10000 of their fans bothered their arses to go

Too much money for League 1/2 clubs to say no..... yet its barely two weeks salary of some PL players.
Luton must have paid back almost all their winnings in fines for fielding the team they wanted too.... that stupidity needs to go.
IIRC only one of the U23s progressed and they were all allowed to dodge the rules...... Charlie Adam & other old boys & some unpronounceable foreign players isn`t much good for the future of English football! That needs to go.....same rules for everyone.
Bonus points for a penalty shoot out "win" ?? Please....get rid.

Sadly Sean Harvey has been tasked to "monetise" the "PL Reserve/B Team" offering......... and he`s a fuckwit of a clown with not a clue about real football.
The cheque will just get fatter and those at the top will get what they want.

Anyway if they scrap it you`ll get to keep the trophy!! We`ve still got the "Milk Cup" from `86.

Good sense as usual Essex

Most people within football thought that genuine U23 teams would be overpowered by most Division 1 & 2 senior teams which is how it panned out really
Yes Swansea got to the QF but they only had to beat another U23 team to do it

You only have to look at when Liverpool fielded a team of half senior pros and half youngsters in the FA Cup at Exeter they were lucky to escape with a replay
And when Leeds fielded a similar team at Sutton this year the Sutton players said afterwards that they knew they'd win as soon as they saw the Leeds team sheet

Not sure how the Div. 1 & 2 teams will vote on this but if the Cat 1 U23's are to be allowed in again perhaps they should have a strict rule that all players in those teams must be U23?

Why would they want to scrap it? A record crowd for the final, would have been so different though if two u21 sides have got there though. So scrap the u21, bring in the conference teams and make it a straight knock out 72 teams, preliminary round of 16 ...first round proper of 64, 5 rounds to the final ....simple.

We're the last midland club to win the FACup and if it's scrapped we will be the last midland club to win the Checkatrade Trophy. Say what you like about Cov City but we do like to set records !

We don't win much wingy but we do enjoy a record. For example Cov City are the only club to have played in every division,we played in North and South divisions. First club to have all seated stadium, and in Jimmy Hill he introduced no end of stuff that no other club had done. And we were the only club to match the one million pound bid by Forest for Trevor Francis, shows how much money we had back then. Cov City FC a pub quiz favourite !
