Coventry City Football Club have issued the following statement...

Coventry City Football Club can confirm they have started the process of securing a site in the local area with the intention to build a new stadium.

Chief Executive Tim Fisher said: “Everyone is aware of the situation with the Ricoh Arena and the fact that we were forced out of the stadium, and the club has a responsibility to supporters to make sure the Sky Blues have a long term home. Doing nothing is simply not an option. The ongoing legal issues have prevented us from talking about this major development until now.

"Therefore we retained stadium specialists some months ago to advise us on suitable sites for a permanent club stadium in the local Coventry area. This will involve a substantial further investment in the CCFC

"Given the current position with the Ricoh Arena, we have had also to make contingency plans to fulfil our fixtures on an interim basis, whilst we begin to deliver the long-term vision. That process is also well underway.

We will ensure that all the fans are kept fully informed as the situation develops and the upcoming fan meetings will provide a further opportunity for discussion."

So the legal Situation now allows comunication of this nature that before yesterday it Could'nt ,Whats Changed these things have been said before ,the only thing that changed yesterday was appletons statement that Ltd was for sale .I only see this as food for their dealings with the League ,we must lobby them .

agreed ownership of the stadium is vital but and its a big but, since their initial investment in 2007 up to the summer of 2009 when they stopped investing in the squad - what makes you think they will invest 30 - 40m in a new stadium which won't be there for another 3/4 seasons. Just hot air.

Same, I find it hard believe there's any real chance of them either funding a new stadium, or in particular a new one being given permission when there's one in the area sat there ready for purpose.

If we were to leave the Ricoh, play elsewhere for a few seasons, and then return to the city in a stadium we own, I'd see that as progress.

However, who's to say these plans wouldn't change some way down the line? We know SISU's aims are purely financial (as you'd expect from an investment group) which is potentially very dangerous if they see a market for a club somewhere else on a permanent basis.

Also not a chance they would get it through planning (with the court cases planning objections etc) and built in 3 years. And even if they did, there will be absolutely no support. It is an utter non - starter.

They seem to be trying to make it clear once and for all that they are serious about a new stadium. Despite the fans having clearly sent the message that they want no part of it!

Surely Sisu's plan is to tell the supporters that they will build a new stadium - that is obviously bullshit ! in the meantime ground share and leave the Ricoh empty in the hope that they finally distress ACL enough to pick the Ricoh up for next to nothing ?

Perhaps this is just me being optimistic, or stating the obvious, but I can't help but feel that this statement; and decision; will turn out to be a huge mistake.

If there was ever something that would galvanise the supporters, it's the thought of SISU taking responsibility for a "long-term vision".

To be liquidated 2 yrs after opening ?

Alemannia Aachen from Germany, former Bundesliga side just dropped in fourth division and almost got liquidated during the season. They still do not know if they are going to get a licence to lay in fourth division. Building a new stadium broke their necks.

All those talking about the relationship with the council lessening the likelihood of planning permission are wrong. Plans can't be turned down on a whim, even less so with changes to legislation being brought in by the government.

That is correct. If it was a regeneration of an area it would have to be accepted.
