Yes of course it’s possible that the club said to Rob that Frank won’t answer questions on specific rumours or targets but it would be odd for the club to ban any questions at all on the transfer window.
“ I’m sure it’s a busy time for you Frank juggling coaching, match prep and recruitment discussions. How do you find the time and are we getting closer to securing some of your targets ?” All very bland and positive but an easy to ask question …,

To Robins credit he would often let out the odd calculated snippet because he knew that fans thrived on it and it put a bit more pressure on the recruitment team to get deals done …

He did ask him if we had any imminent signings, he answered no.

You joke, but I always wondered how Stuart Linnell kept up with his intense radio lifestyle.

Sometimes he would go from a night match, and then be on Radio Northampton for the breakfast show, then I would be driving home from work and he was back on CWR filling in for the afternoon drive-time slot.

What did you want me to say? She's female & she was the commentator last night - I'd usually say 'the twat' or something similar if it was a bloke

My first experience of CWR before and after the match. The presenters were perfectly fine and professional, but.
Clive and Oggy were to my mind the best football duo on radio who had an amazing rapport that made you want to listen. Even the mistakes about teams and occasionally players were part of the charm.
Duos are sometimes just brilliant. Morcombe and Wise, The Two Ronnies etc.
The person who split Oggy and Clive up (if wasn't Clive's decision) is a nobhead.

Say what you like, just don't get annoyed when you using different ways to describe women commentators to men get you described as a misognyst and neanderthal.

Why would I get annoyed over that? It's only words - same as my 'twat' comment to you was in jest

Clive will always remain a legend and should in fact be invited to the next legends day. He had a style bettered only by Sir Bobby Robson at getting names mixed up, and had a great partnership the last few years with Steve (Y'Know) Ogrizovic.

There's a definite whiff of misogyny in many of these comments. Surely gender doesn't matter and it's competence in your job that counts? Who of us is fully competent on day 1 in a new job, or not affected by nerves, especially with thousands of people listening and ready to criticise? Why can't be have a bit of patience while the new team finds its feet and give them a chance.

I think it’s fine to say it’s shit and you don’t like it - I found Lorna insufferable during the Sunderland games at the end of last season.

I can appreciate this might be an assignment forced on her and us because of cost cutting - but it’s still shite. When I listened last year it felt like it dumbed everything down.

I hope she is able to find her feet and add something to the coverage, but right now between her and rain cloud Rob Gurney it’s not an engaging or enticing listen.

Nothing to do with Lorna's gender, she just sounds too much like an overeager fan to me. You have to maintain some degree of separation as a commentator/presenter.

The main problem isn’t her gender, it’s that she appears to know very little about football.

You’re not really understanding your own comments pal. I can think someone is shit without making it about their gender. You clearly cannot.

There are some really good female anchor's in football. Lorna is not one of them.

It's making the coverage trivial and unlistenable. No one cares about your fear of spiders or your latest holiday. You aren't covering the turning on of the Christmas lights!

I think live commentary must be incredibly difficult to do well. With so many games being covered now on a variety of media, it doesn't surprise me that a lot of the commentators (e.g. on Sky) are very dull. You can often tell they've some professional homework on the teams they are asked to cover, but the trouble is they don't want to waste their bloody notes so they can't resist reading them all out.

"[Player A] rose well to meet that corner, and [Team B] were relieved that it was just a bit too high. He's now in his fourth season with the club, having joined for £X,000 pounds from [Team C]. He's had a frustrating time with injuries, but [Manager D] clearly knows him well, having worked with him between 2028 and 2021 at [Team E]. The general feeling among the fans is that this will be a pivotal season for him if he wants to reestablish a regular in the side. Goal kick to be taken by [Player F] who ...."

Exactly.

I found Lorna excruciating to listen to. But that's because of her presenting style, which probably suits morning/afternoon filler where (predominantly older) people want a familiar, friendly voice to just chat away. That's not what football commentary needs. For example she rambled on during the subs and Rob Gurney made a remark and she replied she was trying to fill in the gap while the subs were being made. Or how about let us hear what the actual subs are to fill that gap as it's more useful information.

But absolutely none of that is to do with her gender so bringing it up is completely unnecessary.

I've heard people on cwr who are blokes who are terrible as well because it's their job to present daytime, happy clappy stuff. It just doesn't translate to football and it's a bit American.

I’m still cross about all this. Let’s face it the rot started when Gurney was pointlessly invited back when it was ticking along nicely .
Felt like constructive dismissal against Clive . A unbelievably bad decision by CWR who clearly are clueless about what listeners actually like.

Clive is a legend, but remember when he started......be interesting to recall some of those comments.

Need to give Lorna time, think its her style that need to change a little, sure it will.

- Look at Simon Thomas who took over Soccer Saturday, great presenter, everyone hated him last season, hes starting to grow into more, but its a thankless job following steling.

TBH I have more an issue with Gurney, acting like a scorned fan having a tantrum at times last season.

Clive came in for a lot of stick from fans for many years and many called for him to go because of his mentions of Tranmere and his love for cricket, he was ably supported by Geoff, until Geoff moved on and Oggy took over, then they clicked and people enjoyed them.
Vic is a fan and seems a really nice person having listened to her shows, but she gets a little bit over enthusiastc and has a tendency to ask silly questions. Rob seems to be good, very professional in his coverage and is beyond politic and respectful to Oggy, so it works. Give it time, as we did with Clive and Geoff, and we will accept the changes.

Yeah, I liked that Clive and Oggy (and even Rob) didn't really follow the usual local radio DJ personalities that you hear with the other shows on CWR.
Not that it's the other presenters fault either, I guess it's part of the local radio job description, but I think it's a mistake trying to make the football coverage the same way and I don't think it'll attract younger audiences either.

Saying that, I do think the current matchday team will improve over the season as they go along, but we've been spoilt with the Clive and Oggy pairing.

I actually phoned in when Clive and Adam Dent we're doing the phone in on Friday nights. Clive supports Tranmere and Adam Dent supports Wolverhampton.

I didn't like what I was hearing so I said to them, oh which shirts are you wearing tonight.

That didn't go down too well.
