Leeds are apparently now after Wellens from the Foxes which suggests their interest in our captain is gone. For one, I feel that's good. We need all the players, especially those with experience, we can get at the moment. I know it means no money in the summer, but well, we're used to that now aren't we!

I know this is a topic that has been discussed a number of times but I wouldn't be too upset it we lost Clingan. He as undoubted quality on the ball and is the best set-piece taker but we have played well without him in the team. We seem to be a bit too patient in the build-up when Clingan plays.

Like I said, I think his experience is essential in the position we're in. I know he's not having his best season but he hasn't been anywhere near our worst performer.

I wouldn't say Clingan is slow, but it seems to me he used to have better passing accuracy & decision making, used to give the ball away less often and get back to make crucial tackles more often. He's gone off the boil & end of contract syndrome seems to have kicked in. A useful but not essential player, I think we could get better for the time he will still be around.

Back to Clingan, hes definately one of the players we afford to let go if it means bringing someone else in. His heart isnt in it when hes playing for us. He can say he'll give it "110%" all he likes; thats just another saying all footballers use to try and convince fans.

I went on about this for ages on Saturday at the game. He is gash at taking free kicks and corners, we need to just hit the penalty spot on the corners. I often think Clingan is aiming for a bucket placed in the opposite corner!

As for dead ball master...jeees is that the best we have to take free kicks. Ok so he carrys on playing but we must have other options for dead ball situations.

He still plays the killer pass. Unfortunately it is in front of our own back four and straight to the opposition. That pass has killed us a few times this season.

Sammy in a confident, winning team will be a far more productive asset than Sammy trying to carry a bunch of kids on his own-as he undoubtedly was, whilst playing through injury, for the first 6 weeks of the season.

You are wasting your time. Lots have people have decided he is no good. So they only see what they want to see.
Sammy was good second half.he pushed the midfield forward so we were not defending so deep. Some excellent passes which allowed others to move easily. One misplaced pass and it's all forgotten.
BTW premier players misplace loads of passes, see both big games yesterday. Why do City fans feel outraged if our players do it? How come we think perfection is going to happen in the bottom of the table scrap?

I think Clingan has got the "see the contract out" in his head and despite saying that he will give 110%, probably with good intention, but he cannot motivate himself that extra 5 % that makes a difference.

Seems to me we won't miss the side or backward pass that he takes as the easy option due to lack of either confidence or take the easy option whilst seeing his contract out

Hi, first of all lie to say hello to everyone as a first time poster on this forum, secondly.. I am a Leeds fan and I come in peace!

I would like to know what you all think about Sammy Clingan.

From what i have seen in past seasons he has been fantastic, yet some of what i have heard recently is that he has not been the player he once was.

What is your opinion on the lad, and if we was to end up signing him, how much would you lot miss him?

Lastly i would like to add, i can sympathize with your clubs situation with him being in at the end of his contract and going cheap, as a leeds fan we have had more than our fair share of bad transfer dealings... Losing players like Bradley Johnson, Max Gradel and now Howson!

He's not currently flavour of the month ,but we would miss him ,not been his best season with us ,sure he would go up a gear if this move is resolved ,serial free transfer player so may stall a move with a signing on fee in the summer,we do have a young kid Connor Thomas who slotted into Sammies role successfully ,while he was recently was out injured ,so the club would take anything they can get for him.we are in similar situation with our dire owners,saw your protest on saturday ,good luck,by the way if he signs for you we need to put a clause in that he can't play against us.

In all seriousness, will probably do well in a team if he's just there to keep the midfield ticking over, but is about as penetrative as a lesbian couple who lost their strap-on.

He could be, but at the moment he just slows the whole team down. His vision seems to have deserted him and he's really earned the Sideways Sammy nickname he came with. Add to that the fact that his set pieces have been atrocious this season and I really don't think we would miss him.

His first two seasons he was excellent, but this year he's actually been detrimental to our play and is only in the team due our lack of midfielders. Thomas has shown how you play that role IMO.

Some of our fans have short memories. Sammy has been played out of position by Thorn. He is not an anchor man, more a facilitator...neat and tidy, good range of passing. This has been negated by putting him 5 yards in front of the back 4. Added to this we have no wingers and no pace so Sammy has little choice but to square to the full backs or 10 yards to the slow, inexperienced midfielders.
He has been made a scapegoat by many of our fans for everything which they perceive is wrong with the team. City fans always blame the midfield not the.strikers who have missed loads of chances, or the defence, who have made horrendous howlers. No, blame the midfield...who's in there...kids? can't blame them...McSheff? All forgiven if he scores...only Sammy then

Sorry, the short memory argument is irrelevant. We play the player now not 2 years ago. I'd totally agree he WAS excellent, but this season he's been poor. He takes too long on the ball and misses obvious forward passes.

We have one of the better defences in the league, and we create hardly any chances. Sorry, but the midfield is the problem. No incisiveness, no creativity, no quickness of movement and no player who gambles on a run past the forwards.

Sammys corners are poor, his free kicks can be awesome, strangely though otherwise he doesn't shoot as he is not far enough forward. This season he has been too relaxed in front of the back four and been caught in possession a few times, one case in particular I remember costing us a goal. I won't say we won't miss our captain as we will. He is a top lad aswell. But overall it is not going to be a much bigger loss than all the players that left us for nothing at the start of the season. Sammy has been poor this season which is a good thing if he leaves tomorrow as we don't have a gaping hole to fill. We do need someone though who CAN actually play that holding role which I don't think we have.

I feel a midfield 3 of Deegan, Clingan and Thomas is good at this level and not a relegation midfield. If we lose Clingan we have to think on who would be taking his place in the team.

Regardless of some of the negative Sammy comments i still think he would be a quality player for us, i think he is actually just what our midfield needs, i think we would soon see him back at his best.
