"We have to many players playing for themsleves", - C Platt

Starts with the Captain. The squad know the captain will be off n the coming months, so why should they bother...

There is a BIG lack of team sprit and Platt has spelt it out !

Clingan was basically our midfield today. For whatever reason Gary Deegan was hopeless today, unfit? Conor Thomas will be a terrific player in the not too distant future but has been overexposed in recent games, he's just not ready for a regular start and against a talented team like Southampton he was out of his depth. Clingan was fighting a solitary battle.

Pretty much agree with that, and he was much better second half when the entire midfield pushed on a lot more. Deegan was pants, really didn't look anywhere near match-fit. Nothing like he was before the latest knock. I thought Bell helped Sammy and the RB a fair bit in the 2nd half.

Much as Sammy was trying to carry the midfield, I thought Cameron was trying to carry McPake at the back. Guess we'll soon see if the Wood situation is like the Turner one, as he should be fit for the next game. If he doesn't "feel his calf" again in the meantime

Anyone know how long Hussey is out for? Boy do we miss him.

Bit presumptuous putting those words in Platt's mouth.

Deegan was awful Clive Eakin commented that he visibly let his head drop half way through the first half. That is shocking.

After his performance, what did he expect?

Sounds like a silly rumour, which will no doubt become gospel over the next few days...

Clingan was abysmal today, slow to react to anything, played like he was half asleep

Him and several others gave the ball away poorly today when we were in a promising position, makes you wonder what they practice all week.

problem is, he is the captain

Would Roy keane, Tony Adams, Dennis Wise etc accept that.

No point looking to loan a "leader", just get one on the pitch NOW.

Give Keogh the captaincy and tell him "this is a great honor and marvolous opportunity to make a name for yourself"

Clingan isnt a talker and leader, and not signing a contract proves that

Bigi, must come back in, but hopefully will be given a more advanced role. He's the only one who seems to have the imagination and composure to try things & maybe open up defences. He's wasted playing deep I feel. Clutching at straws on know, banking on an 18 year kid to help us out. Deegan must be injured, no other reason for such a hopeless 45 minutes?
That back four at the end! Three teenagers and Keogh, who I thought was really gutsy. Cameron showed a bit today. I know that sounds weird after shipping 4 goals, but he looked more decisive. Not great but better.
When it comes to City I'm an optimist, but it is looking like only a takeover will save us.

No, he wasn't at his best, though it did annoy me when the blokes around me were constantly sniping at Bell and latching onto anything he did but never said a cross word about Clingan.

The bell haters round my way seemed to be quiet today. Thought he did well when he came on, but then compared to what deegan was like a monkey in heels would have looked good after that!

Not really, all that proves is that his contract is set to expire. Anything else is being completely guessed on your part, much like with Platt's comment.

so, to confirm, as the leader of the team, him not comitting to the team is me "guessing"

Fact is, he is only here until end of the season unless something changes, the rest of the squad knows this

I wonder if there is any other team in the 4 divisions who's captain is out of contract in 6 months ?

The only fact is that his contract expires at the end of the season. Until he actually leaves, all you are doing is guessing, apparently based on a dislike of Clingan if recent posts in this and the Willis thread are any indication.

At a time when supporting the side is paramount, you're criticising a player who is STILL HERE for his lack of commitment, and then making up stuff about how the rest of his teammates feel about it.

A number of teams lose their captain; Lee Carsley was ours last season for an example close to home. It's not a ploy designed to blackmail someone into signing a contract.

How much does this monkey want per week in wages? I reckon SISU will stretch to a couple of bananas a match, tops.

Sadly Clingan is a serial Bosman specialist. At Forest and Norwich he always made noises about "loving it here" then cleared off. Same will happen here. He will sit the season out then go. It shows the depths we have plummeted to even care. He is not a patch on Gunnarson and reminds me of Doyle with slightly less energy. That said we will miss him as no doubt no replacement will be found.

Bell has found a way to keep fan's off his back - play 45 minutes and not touch the ball.

Got to disagree

there are a few other FACTS, Sideways has been poor this season, he is the captain, he hasnt signed a new contract despite being offered one.

Not guessing at any of those.

Another important fact: Sammy Clingan is a Coventry City player.

Until that is no longer fact, you have no cause to criticise him for commitment. Or do you have some insider scoop as to any contract dealings? If so, spill.

No probs

look forward to seeing the above comment on pretty much EVERY thread on this site.

Good luck with that AJ, look forward to seeing you on every thread about Player complaints...

Want ti start with all of the Baker, McSheffrey, McDonald, Deegan, McPake threads ?

Sure, if you can show me where people are criticising these players for leaving the club.

You seem to misunderstand that it's not complaints about players, it's complaints that make no sense. Clingan hasn't renewed YET. He may not do so at all, but until that's confirmed it's not a stick he can be beaten with.

whos doing that ?

my points are as follows.....

Sideways has been poor this season, he is the captain, he hasnt signed a new contract despite being offered one. He needs to lead by example

Let me know which bit of that you dont agree with ?

You led with 'the squad know the captain will be off' and used that as a launching pad to criticise him. Complete guesswork.

Not signing a new contract isn't a valid criticism until the negotiation is finalised one way or the other, as you have no possible idea what has gone on. Therefore, guesswork.

That's what I don't agree with.

Criticise his form all you want as that's something based on what you can see with your own eyes; predicting the future however is not.

If he does leave though, I'm sure you'll delight in any positive thing he does as a jab at who's left.

ok, I take that on board, and happy to admit I might have been wrong about that.

Having said that, your....

"He is a CCFC player, Until that is no longer fact, you have no cause to criticise him for commitment"

shouldnt be aimed at me... The entire forum is based on arguing against this. Are you asking that any cov player is devoid of critism ?

Again, you're confusing general criticism with criticism based on a hypothetical exit.

Every player can be criticised, but for things that actually happen, not the chance they might leave at some point. People are talking about how Juke might leave in January, but it's not a reason to slag him off in November. Unless Sammy Clingan confirms he's clearing off, the same should apply to him.

No jab at all, good luck to any of them, if only I could switch my "team" every year or two..fact is, I am CCFC for the last 30 years and for the next however many years I have left...

AJ, regarding this..

"Sammy Clingan is a Coventry City player.Until that is no longer fact, you have no cause to criticise him for commitment"

I'm keen to hear you thoughts on Freddie Eastwoods commitemt this season, as he is a CCFC player.

Ok, but first I'm keen to hear your thoughts on Clingan lacking the motivation to train properly and keep himself in shape, being sent off to a glorified fat camp in order to get into shape, failing and also throwing a tantrum when told he wasn't going to play.

What's that now?
