Well played to Reading if they have signed him, he looked good for the U18's big, strong and powerful. I think citing disipline reasons is a bit poor at the end of the day he is just a kid and will learn if he has the right pro's around him. Good luck to the lad.

What ever the reason he is gone, cant blame the lad in choice .....

Reading, in the premiership, well backed, quality players to learn off, proven good manager and set up ....
or
Coventry, League 1, little backing, few quality players to learn from, unproven manager, set up in a complete mess....

wonder who I would choose :thinking about::facepalm:

Still disappointed though

^^^^ On Kevin Thornton, I remember a few years ago when he started on me outside Bodrum in Leamington, because me and my mates were chanting at Elliot Ward. He was quite shocked i knew who he was and quickly backed down. He was a tool, sadly did show potential but another who never achieved.

I suspect wage demands came into play, which we can't/won't pay with League 1 pay restrictions we have to comply with.

I dont know ..... seems a strange one ....... if he had gone to kettering or something then ok but Reading?

Perhaps he had already got a better offer?

disappointing imo

Perhaps he'd already been having talks with Reading and wasn't 100% committed to signing for us.

Maybe, but the way everything's been worded (his stuff on facebook, story in the paper) it sounds like it was completely out of his hands.

This is all very odd, why can't we know why he was released all that was said was
“He hasn’t been offered a new deal for reasons we can’t go into.”
Even it was for disciplinary reasons surely he could have said for poor conduct or what not. Now you come to think of it, it is also odd he hasn't been involved in the first team at least on the bench a few times this season given our lack of options.

No just confirmed he hasn't been offered a contract at Coventry.

Hmmm ...if true about the Reading thing, how come this disciplinary issue was serious enough to warrant us not offering him a contract here, yet Reading seem happy enough to sign him up for 2 years?

This just does'nt make any sense at all. Release a youngster for obviously not being good enough in his eyes, yet that same youngster is given a contract immediately by a Prem club !!!

Something in there personal relationship has gone wrong in my opinion, and Thorn's expert eye thinks he is a bad influence on the other yougsters around the club. I wonder if he was given one last warning about his attitude ,which he broke. His record says he is a goalscorer ,so get tough with him, stop his pay, make him clean the showers, wash the players boots, clean the toilets, don't just let him leave. Obviously Thorn thinks Bell and Baker will do a better job, which is very worrying indeed

Not on Readings official. Strange one. Like other people have said though, why are we having to puzzle together things like this. Why cant we ever just get told the truth?

How dare you, have you not realised Thorn is beyond criticism and bigger than CCFC?

Courtney Richards has been released too according to the Telegraph article.

2 quite highly rated strikers and we've cast them aside.

Strange!

Hang on let's get a grip of reality here - he's 17 and has made only 1 sub appearance in the league cup game and as far as we know hasn't been called up to the first team beyond that.

Yes he may have scored a few in the youth team but first team football is a completely different level. And I'm sure it said on player that Billy Daniels is top scorer not Clarke-Harris.

Even if someone else does go in for him there is no guarantee that he will eventually make it. If in 4-5 years he's a first team regular in the PL or championship then you can slate them for letting him go.

And Carsley and Rioch would have been very influential in determining who got contracts, as it states in the 'Carsley promotion' article AT doesn't get to see the youngsters much as they train at the Higgs and play Saturday mornings before the first team.

Accept all that.

Reading think there's enough about him though to offer him a 2 year contract. So they obviously rate him.

(if true of course re the Reading thing)

He is going to develop into a much better player under McDermott, I know who I would rather play for.

I'm surprised you don't like Andy Thorn only you've never mentioned it in the other 200 odd posts

Well, he is part of the problem as far as I am concerned. On here he seems to be bullet-proof, some of the attempts to deflect any blame or responsibility away from him are brilliant.

No. Just that you, like others turn everything into an anti-Thorn issue, irrespective of relevance

Indeed.

I turned a conversation about the worrying obesity factor of eating KFC Family buckets everyday into an anti-Thorn thread.

In fairness to Thorn in this one, he's countering per se obesity by helping out with everyone else's share

I remember reading that women are like an empty KFC box, in that once you've finished with the breasts and the thighs, all you have left is a greasy box to put your bone in.

Let's be clear about this. He wasn't released. He was never on a contract. He was a trainee. Had you ever seen him play? I had - a few times.

Moreover, who do you genuinely believe chooses which academy players are given contracts? Thorn or Rioch and Carsley?

And given Carsley's recent ascendency in the club, who do you really made this decision?

To portray it an 'another' player Thorn has fallen out with is farcical beyond belief
