So maybe it was the game plan to stifle there attacking threat and then pick them off on the counter when the opportunity presented itself, in that respect the game plan worked perfectly and Venus gets a 10.

Pick them off on the counter?

Would accept that if we had counter attacked and looked constantly dangerous, but we hardly got out of our own half all game.

Nearly everyone is saying we played poorly today. Should we commend the manager for our playing so badly?

He was lucky that his inability to change things didn't cost us. That's my humble opinion. We clearly needed a change, especially in midfield, where we were being overrun and the obvious choice was Rose.

We were hanging on. Luckily Rochdale couldn't hit a barn door today.

How long have we moaned about having lots of possession going backwards and sideways and then the defence and attackers letting us down. How often has it been said we need to be better in both boxes, today we were and yet all some can do is moan.
That Rochdale display was actually typical of a lot of our displays over the last 8 months where we've been crap.

It wasn't a great display today, average at best I would describe it. But this wasn't a lucky win, we deserved it and the better team took the 3 points.

And I do worry now for the rest of the season in terms of our being out fought and out muscled.

Looks like we now can't do anything about it until January.

Can I also say once again in my defence, FIVE for me is average as a rating. Most say SIX as average, but I say FIVE.

I am therefore saying Venus's performance today at FOUR was below average. Not terrible, but he made mistakes and didn't seem to have any counter to Rochdale's dominance.

Agyei should have had a hat trick today and jones should have probably scored late on also, as well as the two goals we actually scored

They had one set piece cleared off the line.

Fed up of the anti Burge feeling on here. Low scores for another clean sheet and solid performance just dodgy distribution. I like rcc too but a clean sheet and he'd score higher. Seems this kid can't win and people have made up their mind waiting for him to chuck one in the net (perhaps some almost wanting it). It may be nothing but coincidence but our results have improved since being in the side. He's a young lad (still very young for keeper) come through our ranks and deserves a bit more respect and to be given a chance by some.

Yep. Final third they were totally rubbish. Did need some great defending from us though to help keep them at bay.

I thought that was Willis's best ever game for us. Games that I have seen anyway.

Maybe. He was very quiet for the most part and easily crowded out.

Just how bad was that first 15 mins though? And that was pretty much from every player in Sky Blue. Absolutely abysmal.

Rochdale have scored a large percentage of their goals in the first 15 mins, with that in mind that's fairly successful first 15 mins?

Burge 7 his distribution lets him down
Sterry 6 ok
Page 7 didn't do too much wrong and a good cross for the goal
Willis 8 did well and won a lot in the air, if he stays fit he is the next out the door
Turnbull 6 tried hard but an accident waiting to happen
McCann 5 did little and then got injured
Bigi 6 gives the ball away too much
Stevenson 7 did ok and always looks forward so refreshing after watching Fleck for the last few years
Sordell 6 centre forward playing on the wing
Ageyi 6 runs like he is treacle but in the right place for the goal
Lamieries 6 does little but then set up goal

Reid 5 all pace no brain or end product
Jones 5 should have scored
Wright 6 had a chance and scored

Unlike lots on here I thought Rochdale were really average and we should be expecting to beat teams like this, they had a lot of the ball but got nowhere

Right minor gripe.

It's not Turnball, or Turnbell or Tumble. It's Turnbull.

Everyone say it with me. TURNBULL

No way Stevenson was better than Bigi, his positional play was awful.
Agree about Willis though, MOTM,

Irrespective of the performance today, the point is we have closed the gap, and done it in 2 games, which last week I didn't think was possible. We need to hang in until January and hope we can get some players we really need. The season isn't over yet.

Because he got it wrong.

Pretty sure he didn't score the two goals to be honest.

No corners all game and hardly got out of our own half. Totally dominated and it was only Rochdale's poor finishing that won the game for us.

From about 5 minutes into the 2nd half it was clear a change needed to be made, but he failed to do it. The obvious choice you would have thought would have been Andy Rose to come in to shore up the middle of the park and give us a bit more energy and fight there.

I thought Venus was poor today. We were totally dominated and played very, very poorly and he failed to change it.

I don't think 4 is stupid at all.

willis was a 8/9 today 1 early mistake he recovered from, and then excellent
Turnbull did a solid job and was a solid 7 +

So, some thoughts from Oxford were that we were the best team they had played this season , while some Rochdale (!!) think we were the worst team they'd played. Bottom line is that we have two wins against two teams above us in the league which shows we have every chance of moving further up the league ourselves - it's a crap league that we need to be out of (hopefully in an upward direction)

No corners? Why on earth is that relevant? Chelsea beat Wigan 6/0 once and didn't have a single corner. What a bizarre thing to point out.

Burge - 6 - you can't really give him less as he didn't really do anything wrong. He is a poor goalkeeper who palms shots away often across his goal and has a bizarre kicking style but hadji10 thinks he's the next Gordon Banks so there you go

Sterry - 5 he got caught a lot in possession and struggled. Sordell covered a lot for him.

Page - 7 never understand the negativity. He's clearly not a wing back but very competent as a left sided defender.

Turnball - 6 he did ok there wasn't that much threat down the middle

Willis - 7 - despite some very high ratings he wasn't great in the first 20 minutes - he was pulled all over the place. He had a strong second half but in the first got turned easily a couple of times

Sordell - 7 despite someone's claims this is his best position he was often playing right wing back. That said his application and defensive duties was second to none. He's good and he's very commited.

Stevenson - 6 - after the Lord majors show. One of mowbrays failings was his disregard to opponents tactics. They saw the room he was given and blocked him.

Bigi - 5 - got caught in possession a lot which again is opponents doing their homework. The other thing about him is he constantly yells for the ball when he's in no position to receive. Allowing him to take set pieces is laughable.

Lameries - 5 - despite the assist the guy is a passenger for 90% of the game and the play acting is embarrassing.

Agyei - 7 - looks very raw but he causes defences issues as Murphy did in a different way last year.

McCann - injured and given how the midfield played without him that's a worry

Reid - 6 - a player with zero football brain unfortunately.

No not really mate, I just think he's a better goalkeeper than Charles-Cook who gives the opposition a 1-0 lead start in nearly every game he plays. Both are average League one goalkeepers, Burge is slightly better.

I think Rochdale were like we have been all season. Looked great but couldn't Score goals and were likely to concede. It's great to see us do that to another team. We rarely win twice at home in a week and it was extra special to win one by playing nice football and the other by digging deep. We would've got promoted if we had today's performance in us around February/March last season.

Well that is your opinion.

Grendel said it was stupid. In the match thread however, Grendel said we were poor. In the match thread he also said the midfield was non existent and in the match thread he also said Rose should be given game time.

I called for Rose to be introduced. It was what was needed. Venus failed to do so. Therefore his performance was below average. 5 is average, 4 is below average. I gave him 4.

Not stupid at all.

We will have to agree to disagree.

Why is rose what was needed? We didn't bring him on and won the game comfortably without really looking too troubled.

What was stupid was singling him our as worse than the players.

Given the fact the team has won 3 out of 4 having previously won 0 that is kind of senseless.

Comfortably?

Each and every to their own.

We deserved to win, but that was anything but comfortable to my eyes.

Think we just saw the game differently, which is fine. Rose for me was the obvious choice to come on and steel the middle of the park.

Rose has about as much steel as a soggy piece of cardboard,

It is an issue that we have a lightweight midfield especially as teams will watch us and realise that you can nullify bigiaramana pretty easily especially if Stevenson is struggling and McCann is out.

He can't do a lot about it as ghadzev looks terrible.

Rose is just an up and down the pitch athlete who may get some goals but generally is pretty limited.
