What have we ripped up? Adding a successful sports club is a plus in a presentation. That it isn’t a fourth division club which loses to teams like Forest Green at home in the presentation should come as no surprise. Wasps don’t pick the team for CCFC or allocate budget. Yes, it as a crying shame, but that is where we are.

Adding a successful sports club? Is that what culture is then? Does it show the city as cultural, helping a team move for the purpose of assisting a property company with a rugby club on the side?

no point to make but are CCFC actively involved in the City of Culture bid? If so in what way?

I do find it surprising that CCFC are not mentioned

Do they have to be involved in the bid to be part of the cities culture then? If so, better take lady Godiva out as I ain't seen much of her backing it.

Culture must be being mistaken for advertising / PR opportunities. Want to be part of Coventry's culture, get your cheque book out.

This other notion that we're unattractive because we're league two. The idea that we should accept it as it's our level, is quite amusing. Considering when a stadium of 15000 is discussed there is screams of unambitious owners. So, which is it, accept the level we're at or not? Or does it change if it means you can moan at the owners?

It means that’s where we are today. In 10 years it may be better - or not- but no one judging gives a toss what may happen in 10 years.

It certainly helps. Why didn’t we do something to help promote the city and get seen to be doing something- even if we don’t have a Cheque book at the moment?

Yes actually they have to be involved otherwise they will hardly be mentioned. I think Lady Godiva has been around for over 900 years and is very well known. She paid in with her good deeds long ago.

So something can instantly be part of culture depending on how much money they plough in?

Again, what was the difference between Wembley in March / April time and when Wasps had their big day to win the league?

You don't "pay in" to be part of history and culture, you earn it surely?

It's telling how 2 people outside of Coventry seem to be fighting the cause here.

A couple of hundred thousand pounds? On the other hand JRing the city through an out of town hedge fund may be seen as detracting from culture or loyalty to the city.

So what you are saying is that it's not about culture and the city, it's who will bid the highest?

That pretty much sums it up.

earning it yes, but dragging the City through pointless ( up to now ) JRs probably doesn't count as earning aplace in our culture. Being outside of Coventry doesn't take away my history or culture btw. What cause am I fighting? I am saddened that CCFC isn't up there at the top as "sports" in the bid. We don't have money, but we could have done things to try and improve the relationship with the people ultimately behind the bid. Why didn't the club do that?

Fairly standard to get companies to sponsor a bid though isn’t it?

I mean, CCFC and CRFC are sponsoring it: Join the 2021 Club - UK City of Culture 2021 Bid, Coventry

How reliable is OPs info?

You keep talking as if people are saying Joy and Dermot should have a feature length exclusive in there.

You had better call the transport museum and the Coventry section at the herbert to get them to remove the CCFC stuff as well, tell them Wasps will outbid and sort their Xmas Party or something for the space.

Doubt it. Think the bid is judged. It wins or it loses and after that it will be forgetten by the judges.

I don't bow to anybody with my love and gratitude for my hometown.
Even I wouldn't argue why Coventry City were not on the bid. Our club is toxic, we are at the lowest point in our post war history and I could have made a bigger case for Coventry Bees had they survived.

Of course you could.

Again, when Wasps had their biggest game last season how did it compare in and around the city?

I don't see where you are coming from. CCFC could have done more. You know that I mentioned this to various people at CCFC ( about Wasps getting more limelight through the bid ) a long while ago. You know that I tried to get CCFC to do something representing the City as goodwill and even got some sponsors to help cover the costs. I PMed you in at the time. If I am fighting a cause, it is CCFC's cause and I would hardly be asking people to remove any mention of CCFC.

Strange comment about the museum.

And it'll be judged on what will happen within it's reigning time.

It isn't a strange comment, because nobody is saying that Joy and Dermot should be featured.

Like it or not, Coventry City is a part of the culture, heritage and history of the city. The comment about the museums was because of the CCFC stuff within those, you saying how many talks should mean we should get that out to replace it with Wasps stuff if they throw some money their way.

Somebody like NW would probably correct me as they know more but surely culture and heritage is something that "just happens", people don't wake up one day and think they are going to do something to be part of things like that.

When people say Coventry it's Cathedral, Blitz, Lady Godiva, FA Cup 1987, ring road etc.

Get help. For the sake of your family if not yourself.

You’re attacking a frail old man in his retirement for no other reason than someone on a messageboard pointed out an economic truth.

Go have a look in the mirror and spend some time working out where it all went wrong.

I’ve not seen it mate.

Not sure what it’s got to do with the sponsorship issue.

We are an almost non league team that may not even be in the city in 2021, who are antagonistic to the people running the bid. While it’s be nice if we featured prominently, it’s hardly surprising we aren’t.

I once taught a kid who was a complete shit, swore, threw things, hit other kids, tore up work, you name it. He kept getting put in isolation and excluded and the like. The parents tried to sue the school claiming he wasn’t being given his right to education.

You remind me of those parents. You don’t get to be a c**t then ask why you aren’t invited to the birthday party.

What have CCFC done to the Coventry City of Culture Trust?

Using your example, one of the parents can't offer to get the playground re-tarmaced to have their kid captain of the football team can they?
